From that handset Dial *#0000# then, it will show which version is present and also when was the last update.
Then, if its not updated dont worry, its simple...
On the same screen click 'Options' and then click 'Check for updates'
For doing this you need to have inserted a Sim card which has internet enabled in it.
Some shop keepers, do have it.
I bought it from Nokia priority dealer, so he did all this for me.

Basva, 27 Jul 2010Tanks saur thankr for ur suggection.i did same thing ,but i... morei m also facing problems with bluetooth file trasfer... i face probelms in receiving files from my laptop (havent tried with any other device)specially when size of file is more that 1-2Mb.... i bought this last week... n i tested bluetooth it worked properly after that i updated the firmware n i started facign this issue... is there anyone else who is facing the same issue?

I bought Nokia 5230, 4 days back and Im loving it.
I have explored most of the features in it and looks great.
Camera- 2MP but good enough, picture clarity is good
Touch sensitivity- Good (but, Samsung is very sensitive) But still I feel, too much sensitivity like Samsung is also too bad.
Internet Speed- Good enough, infact its speedy
Overall- Really worth with features like 2MP camera,GPS,3G 3.2mbps with HSDPA & memory expandable till 16GB.
Only drawback I observed is- Sound is quite low
Like other users, I did not face any battery heat up issues
My Rating- 8.5 out of 10

Presintalled apps-Facebook,Google,Amazon app (May vary depending on region so u might get more for less)
Games-Dj Mix Tour and Rev Rollercaoster 99 Tracks.
