jeniverre, 15 Jan 2010im definitely g0nna buy this ph0ne. but pls tel me why m0st... moreWho says that???? WinMo has made a fortune off 3rd party apps. And WinMo has been employing touch screens before anyone else.
And by the way Samsung S5230 Star and LG Cookie KP 500 and other non-smart feature phones do support JAVA apps the most well known being Google Map, Opera Mini. These works fine on any JAVA supporting handset Touch Screen or not.
Nokia 5230 will support not only JAVA apps but also softwares made for Symbian S60 v5.
    Hope this helps

jeniverre, 15 Jan 2010im definitely g0nna buy this ph0ne. but pls tel me why m0st... moreIt depends on the handset for eg. Samsung Star and LG Cookie KP 500 do not accept 3rd party software due to their Manufacturers Licensed Software and the product itself. But Nokia 5230 does accept software.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Hi Parag, Interesting list that.
Samsung S5230 Star and Nokia 5230 is priced similarly but Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is almost Rs 5000 costlier.

Out of all the three, 5800 XM is the undisputed winner.
5800 is better than 5230 in camera that comes with flash, has Wi-Fi, has a secondary videocall camera, a better speaker, a little more internal memory.

There is no comparison between 5800 XM and Samsung Star as the Nokia beats it in every feature.

So if you have 5000 Rs more to spare you can get 5800 XM.

          Between 5230 and Samsung Star
First lets see the positives of Star
          - Dimention : looks more pocketable cause its shorter and thinner. Also little less heavier.
          - Camera. It has 3.15 MPx camera against 5230's 2 MPx
          - Comes with a document viewer. This is insignificant b'cause you can easily get a software for 5230.

          Positives of 5230
          - Screen is bigger and better. It is 3.2" against Star's 3". Also it is more pixel dense with more resolution than Star's. And not to mention it is 16:9 so full screen viewing is possible without black bars.
          - 3.5 mm Audio Jack. Star doesn't has it. Its a major difference b'cause you can buy top of the line headsets (like Seinheisser or Bose etc.) from outside and use it directly.
          - Little more internal memory. Its actually insignificant but it still is a difference.
          - It has 3G. Star doesn't. Probably it is not that important b'cause 3G is not commonly used in India but atleast it will be ready once 3G race begins (in India).
          - Lower resolution camera but better video recording resolution than Star.
          - Symbian S60 Thus access to softwares that for me is a downright necessity in any phone. A non smart has to be checked for its features and what it "can do" before buying, but for a smart phone you just look at the hardware and buy it because the softwares can be downloaded easily. And its Symbian.
          - It has GPS. So you can trace your journey, find direction. You can actually use your phone as a navigator with the built-in Nokia (Ovi) maps.
          - Better battery.
          - Another positive is that it support express-on battery covers. Not that important but still a nice additional advantage of owning 5230.

So unless camera is your only priority, go for 5230.

it all depends upon what you want in your handset. Nokia 5230 offers you the same Touch experience as Nokia 5800. Nokia 5800 is an handset priced at higher price range(if you are on Budget go for 5230) whereas Nokia 5230 and Samsung star are entry level touch phones.
But samsung star has two versions basic and the wifi one. If you compare both of these versions only wifi feature of the latter is better than Nokia 5230. Samsung Star has widgets whereas Nokia 5230 doesnt have them. But then samsung star(basic as well as wifi one) isnt an smartphone like Nokia 5230.

Please read the comments of users before u comment. I know my 5230 has an stylus slot in its back cover. Apart for Plectrum stylus that they have provided.

What do you expect to get at 8000 RS/- in many Indian Cities(except Mumbai) even its competitors are lacking the features and durability this mobile has.

                @ others
Internet features are cool on this handset..Looks are really good only negative aspect i saw was The screen is only not visible during the day(due to gloss effect of the screen), Speaker is below average(but then i dont use it to entertain any1 else).

Price is really cool aspect of it too(Rs8000-9000 INR)not providing memory card is only a small flaw in their plan.
