This question is for those who are using or have used 5800Xpress-Music.
Is Nokia 5800Xpress-Music better than the N91 in terms of audio quality?
I am currently using N91 for almost 4 years, still running good. I am planing to buy a new nokia mobile. I am only looking for audio quality, so is 5800Xpress-Music sound quality better than N91 ?

Anonymous, 16 Dec 2008hey marcus what is nokia 5800 made in ? what about the sou... moreAs I explained in my review, yes the sound quality is very good, with high volume output through both earphones and speakers.

And to Craig - thanks for the compliment. I agree with you - forums are set up to help each other, and not as a public bitch-fest.

One further thing I have discovered - if you are using a contact picture and contact ring-tone, make sure the picture is not too big a file, as the ring-tone will default to the standard one rather than the personal one.

My partner recently visited Spain where the 5800 went on sale in early December, so bought it there for me. This is my personal review after 4 days.

I can only make a direct comparison to the phones I have owned or used: SE W810i, SE W580i, Nokia N82, Nokia 5610 XM.

Initial impressions are a very light phone, almost identical in size to the N82, and the fantastic screen. The operating system is fast and touch-screen responsive providing you don’t press on too large an area – finger nails produce 100% accuracy and fast input – large fingers would produce more errors. When scrolling down a long list, its easy to overshoot – at that point it’s best to drag on the items rather than the scroll bar. Once you get used to all this you will find you can operate it just as quickly as a normal keypad.

The music player sounds great once used with decent headphones. Volume is at least as high as the 5610, if not higher, and greater than any Walkman phone I have tried. Through the stereo speakers it’s amazing – very loud and clear – unbelievable considering the tiny apertures. Play one of the pre-installed videos and the effective surround sound and picture quality will blow you away.

Internet connection using wifi seems ok – being able to drag the page around the screen is so much more convenient although zooming is a little slow.

The camera takes good pictures in daylight – similar to the 5610 which has the same 3.2MP, although the 5800 has the better lens. At night the results are more disappointing – far granier than the 5610 which is surprising given they both have the dual led flash – maybe a firmware update could sort this out.

The battery lasted a day and a half for me, but I have been playing with it virtually all day, so the 2-3 days stated in most reviews would seem reasonable.

Any criticisms I have are more about S60 than the 5800 in particular – namely not having a “favourite” person to text to, or list of recently used message recipients, like recent S40 phones have. The 5800 tries to get round this with the “contacts bar” but if you use this, you lose the shortcuts bar, which I prefer. There is no clock shown on the standby screen , and no screensaver either. Also there are no graphic smileys, but unlike other S60 phones, any application you download isn’t yet compatible, but that’s what you get with a brand new phone, and something that will be resolved in time.

So to sum up, it’s an excellent media player with a reasonable camera. You can’t compare it to more dedicated camera phones as it was never designed as that from the outset.

I use this forum to compare thoughts with other users of the phone, and to provide helpful advice on anyone thinking about buying one, or existing users having problems. It therefore annoys me to see the kind of criticisms we have on here, either about the phone or even worse, about each other. Constructive criticism is fine, but comments like “crap phone”, “it looks cheap” etc are nothing more than personal opinion and have no value whatsoever. I happen to like the glossy black finish, others will disagree. Looks should never be used as a criticism as everyone has their own idea of what looks good.

I can answer any reasonable questions, but price and availability in different countries etc are what Google is for.

I am planning to buy this amazing phone. Before that can some one let me know that Intellisync can be installed in 5800 so that I can check my mails?

I had fren who used i phone & he admit that i phone cant blue tooth for song transfer. He also comment that i-phone speaker/volume is not good as sony ericsson or Nokia. He have to crack the software to enable cam record and set own ring tone, to those that good in IT sure should facing any problem but whut happend to the people that not good in IT?. I love how i-phone react to the touch but i really2 love how Nokia 5800 can do. Nokia 5800 have blue tooth, have 3.15 megapixel, can set own ring tone, good wifi, good quality of speaker. If you want good camera quality then u should buy canon camera not phone okay?

So please stop comparing quality of images for handphone .. can camera do wifi? can received call?

One more thing 5800 can do video call while i phone cannot~

I went to Low Yatt plaza today (malaysia) and the price is reasonable compare iphone RM2900 but no wrannty in Malaysia~ Better but Nokia 5800 i get 15 month warranty!!
