About the touch screen...@ Craig
The front of the device is dominated by the 3.2 inch resistive touch screen, which has a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels (Nokia refer to this as nHD). This is much higher than most previous S60 devices (QVGA: 240 x 320) and has a wider aspect ratio (16:9 compared to 4:3). Touchscreens typically use resistive or capacitive technology; capacitive touchscreens (as used on the iPhone) are generally regarded as more sensitive and work better in sunlight, but only work with finger touch, whereas resistive touchscreens can work with any object (finger, stylus, when wearing gloves etc.). The 5800's screen is set behind the resistive layer and is therefore well protected.Resistive touchscreens work by having two thin layers of conductive and resistive material which detect a 'touch' when they are pressed together; this means a physical push is required for a touch to be registered. The main concern with such screens, from a usability viewpoint, is how much of push is needed. If you're using the stylus (easily the most accurate way to interact with any touchscreen) with the 5800 then there are no problems at all. Even with the less accurate/controllable finger touch, you can get the response. That's extremely good compared to other resitive touch screens.
The other typical problem with such touch screens is that the resistive layer can dull screen clarity and brightness; but again this isn't an issue with the 5800.
Indeed I think the 5800's screen is one of the device's high points; Nokia were quite serious when said it was industry leading at the launch event. Colour range and accuracy is excellent for an LCD based screen and its high resolution gives it impressive detail and sharpness.

Hi Guys & Girls,
Thought I'd try get some advise from people who have the Nokia 5800 and have a hands on experience.
I currently have an iPhone 3g and the most things that I mainly love about it:
- Is how responsive the touch screen is
- I love the interface
- I love the Ipod functions
- The size is ok because it's thin.
What I miss or dislike, are:
- The ability not to txt forward
- Can't send/receive MMS
- Video Recording
- Cut'n'paste
*I knew the iPhone didn't do the above before buying, just didn't realise I'd miss these features as much*
I recently bought the Samsung Omnia i900 and I bought it out impulse and I totally regretted it. I sold it 2 weeks later as the touch screen was not responsive, the wifi just wouldn't connect to my home wifi, it was slow and the touch screen only really worked properly if I was using the stylus, which was scratching the screen. So it wasn't for me so it was sold 2 weeks later.
I've had plenty of Nokia models before, my last being the Nokia N95 8gb, in which I really loved.
Now, I'm really interested in the Nokia 5800 Xpress, the price currently is another story, but I really like all the features on the 5800. I only have one concern, that would be how responsive the touch screen is.
If someone has this model, can you please tell me if the touch screen is quiet responsive like the iPhone 3g. This is the only thing holding me back from buying it at this stage.
Any advise would be very greatful.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2008loudness and sound quality is not on n91 level only n96 li... moredude loudness wise there is nothing compared to the N91 ...harmen DAC etc .....and well N85 is no way near even to the n81 .....soo i think 5800 is just another nokia phone better then the rest of xpress music phones ...but no way near the N81 or the N91 .....have;nt tried the N96 ..but at top volume its distortion levels are way too high to be competing with N91 or N81 ......

This phone costs $998 in Brunei, that is 688USD. For once i thought it would be around $600 Brunei because I've been doing some research, and some said it costed around 279EURO, which is far expensive when converted. If it was 279EURO, shouldnt cost around 900+ in Brunei. Take a look at the new Nokia N97. Worth a check before thinking of buying the Nokia 5800.

Pharoahs, 05 Dec 2008it is really got great and wide specs but Nokia should put ... moreYeah this kind of calculation is not fer, you shall not compare iphone with this nokia N97 or 5800, because the iphone first of all is a low phone profile..., no copy and paste, no front camera for conversation, the camera is bad quality and no posible software control and cant record video at all, bluetooth is just hanging with it, cant do a damn thing, cant transfer files with friends, and only dedicated web places you are able to pickup software, and it's slow surfing thing, no SMS reply, No multimedia mesages service, an I guess for aple was better to give a joystick to iphone and give to kids to play nintendo games with it, that's all!
It would bee fer you guys, you should better compare iphone with this cheapest older phones that they qualify with the same results, of course some of them even they are old, they are capable sending/receiving MMS, and operational bluetooth..., they'll win maybe!
For now Nokia N97 and nokia 5800 are super mobile computer, with all possibilities, send end receive, upload and download files thru bluetouth or network wi-fi or any connection, cameras in front for conferencing or 3.2/5MP for taking grate pictures or VIDEO DVD cuality, and wot more do you want to hear about it...., Multimedia Mobile Computer on Pocket!

Recording video = 640x480 - 2600 kbps - 60 fps - 48000 hz - 96kb/s
(GSPOT)
nokia n96 = 640x480 - 3600 kbps - 29 fps - sound = 48000 hz - 96kb/s
htc touch hd = 352x288 - 383 kbps - 30 fps - sound = 8000Hz
omnia = 320x240 - 805 kbps - sound = 8000Hz
If you prefer quality = nokia n96 or if you prefer quality and real time = nokia 5800 :) enjoy it!

This Phone Sucks!! Made of cheap really quality, on screen keyboard is NO good! Don't spend your money, Wait for N97!!

In Brunei Darussalam its cost BND$998 equivalent to US$668 and Euro 545 with 8gb memory card..wow..very..very..very..expensive...too far away from 249 Euro what Nokia price plan...perhaps have to wait 2-3months before the price goes down to at least US$400...

In Indonesia.. The price is about Rp. 4,500,000 (equivalent to USD.360 - Rate Rp.12,500 per 1 USD)
Came with 1 year limited indonesian warranty!!!

This is the first touchscreen device from Nokia, running on Symbian. This has a huge potential to become a market ruler because of its balanced specs with new technology. This is basically a crossover device with present Symbian facade and future touch based approach. If Nokia can get the things working right in place and offer a competitive price, as they have planned earlier, this could be a huge hit, just like N95. Nokia should not be just greedy and raise the price to fetch more profit in short term. They can offer competitive price and grab this opportunity to gain a space in touchscreen market.
In this scenario, Shouldn't we expect an expert review of the device on offer from GSMArena Team?
