Hi, a quick review from sunny SA - Got myself the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music today (and note this, in SA we normally get all the stuff that doesn't seem to work) I have to tell you, it's great :-) na, it's not some HTC, I-Mate or even the fruity phone's brother, this one has got it's own look and feel plus it brings a vibe. It does one amazing thing, it offers you what Nokia said it would and this you should make sure of before getting one. In sort, it's a music phone and it's stunning. The moment you start taking it out of the box you will note that bubbly feeling deep down, it excites you in the most midi-evil way, with sound and visual oneness.
But let me give you the run down for free, first up. I spend allot of time looking into what this phone offers and what not. I spend time reading reviews like this one and it helped me sure .. with all majestic things comes casualties and it seems Nokia is suffering badly with this one these days. The phone does not give you the idea, once in your hand, that it's flimsy but it lacks that old tradition of feeling like a brick. So you when you touch it you get that stupid voice in the back of your mind telling you "it's gonna break mate" after spending some time with it thou and not putting it down or leaving it alone, I must say I feel more confident in using it and might even consider putting it in my pocket next time. One thing I do not like is Nokia clearly knew about this problem and therefore they have tried there best to make everything else on the body of the phone impossible to access, work with, open up or move. You will note this early on by
lifting flaps to insert your sim or by simply trying to lift up the cap that hides the USB connector socket.
I spend more then hour trying to get the stylist out of it's hiding place with no real success, after a wile you get the feeling that this phone's best friend should be a pocket knife to lift up all the flaps and remove covers. Lucky 4 me nothing has broken yet and you do get a spare stylist in the box (good idea and now I know why)
The phone's sound, workings, software, layout and basically everything thing else is just wonderful. If you are a real skeptic, you will find something to complain about with pure perfection anyway so I will move on. The software and OS are quick, easy and really simple to understand. In real Nokia tradition there is some pointers and settings were you are
forced to open the manual and read a paragraph or two .. and that's a good thing! Setting it up and making it play music and video is as simple as clicking some buttons and a much quicker task then oooh let's say lifting body flaps! I have got mine in red and it's a looker for sure, very sexy, lightweight and something you might leave
behind, so be careful. As far as using the thing as a phone (and that is what it's suppose to be) it's no effort and it hasn't failed me in anyway towards communication.
One thing nobody mentioned or talked about is the fact that the phone has got a 3.2m/px camera, it's like everybody is not telling on this and keeping the secret, the camera is a real let down and not something you should count on. Yes
it takes photo's and video's and yes it even goes "click" wile it's doing it, but the quality and real ability is lacking. I suspect this is gonna be the number one killer for this other wise great phone considering now that the "N Range" has got a 5m/px on board as standard. But come on, let's be honest, it's not like they are gonna make the perfect phone is it, there will always be something that will not be as good as another thing, helping you into buying the other something and replacing what you have, it's called technology :-)
I say it again, this phone is more then just connecting people, it's a friend for a rainy, lonely nights and it's a pocket DJ for when your clubbing and making some real noise and in day time you can use it for all the basic functions each phone should have. It's got a great internet browser, GPRS, HSDPA and WLAN options, it comes standard with an 8G memory
card offering enough space for image and audio and over above this there is a TFT resistive touchscreen with 16M colors, 360 x 640 pixels in size. Cool stuff (if you want to take a moment to learn) is the handwriting recognition software, double up
options to choose between keyboard layouts and stunning time, event and calender options. Like I have said, it's 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm real sexy, good looking, very loud phone and I'll tell you what. I am enjoying it and looking forward to using it (even with my knife handy) and that isn't something I have felt with many other phones over the last couple of years .. well done Nokia. hi, i have this phone (Nokia 5800 Xpress Music) and i am very pleased, because he is my second ,,computer,,. I think that this is excellant mobile and he has all functions who hs iphone.

every1 is tellin even d priority dealers dat dis fone does not have TV out function but i tried it myself TV out workz bt d thing it doesnt come in retail package..

if your mp3 files don't work anymore is most likely that your MicroSD card is corrupted or has some corrupted files on it. That happened to me also few days a go. I herd is there are other people that had the same problem with the Nokia MicroSD memory.

Don't mean to offend anyone but this is like the worst buy of my life.
I dont know if it's only me or what, but it's garbage.
I've always trusted nokia but this time Im very disapointed.
Signal/sound quality are good, but maps and web surfing are real bad and absolutely slow.
It just cant support having 2 apps working at the same time. Im one of those who like to listen to music while surfing the web.. Well its just ot possible the would crash after 2-5 minutes.
not very functionable screen since you actually must click on the screen, not good for an easy use of the keyboard.
playing photos as video is also veeeery slow.
Ive read a bit about viruses but I dont think thats my case because this has happened since day 1.
According to my experience, I dont recomend buying it.

Nokia acquired cross platform developer
QT a while ago and now is reaping the benefits by porting QT to all it’s major devices from S60v3 and S60v5 to upcoming Maemo 5 . To demonstrate the power of QT Nokia has released a QT6 Demo for S60v3 and S60v5 phones which truly bring out the potential of these phones especially S60v5 including Nokia 5800 XM , N 97 etc by adding Kinetic scrolling and Fluid Launcher ( Same like Apple iPhone Coverflow ) to the phones .

The QT6 is not only a pretty face , it also acts as a powerful Application platform which can run a mulitude of application and has the potential of replacing the current standby screen on Nokia Phones .
The demo of QT6 comes in a 12mb package- downloadable from here ( http://qt.nokia.com/phonedemos ) and includes the basic QT Application by the name of Fluid Launcher , QT Demos consisting of 13 Applications including Desktop the App launcher and also QT Examples with 7 Demos , I cannot differentiate between the two as they all are Apps and why Nokia has divided them in two folders , Nokia knows best .
The installation takes it’s time installing a number of application to support QT and thankfully could be installed on the memory card , given the current sorry state of user available Phone memory it’s a good option to be able to install on Memory card. The phone should be restarted after installing of QT6 , may not be necessary but it Qt6 started functioning properly after the restart .

* Media Player ,
* SVG Viewer ,
* Fridge Magnet to move around selected text ,
* Kinetic Scrolling example ,
* open Map project supporting limited cities ,
* DrillDown something like Wikipedia for cities ,

* Ray Casting - game like Wolfenstein circa 1990 without the character , monster or Guns
* Flight Info With limited functionality
* Weather Info- again with limited functionality
to name a few . The applications are compatible with accelerometer , supports Auto Rotate and work in both Portrait and Landscape mode but for some one mode is better than other .
