reception and call quality are probably network problems, not nokia problems, nokia have one of the best (if not the best) reception and quality than any other phone brand. even though i wish they would put more attention in the design, stay conservative with the american models. gringos are a pain sometimes

I just returned a Samsung t309 after 1 day for poor reception, crackling voices and extremely low volume---couldn't hear callers unless it was really quiet and they spoke loudly. (2-year old Samsung had been OK). Also didn't like some of the non-intuitive menus.

Tried the Nokia 6103 at T-Mobile and had the same problem with reception, crackling, and low volume. If you look at professional reviews like CNET you'll see that a lot of newer phones share these problems. Odd, because the whole purpose of a phone should be that you can ACTUALLY HEAR CALLERS, right? ;->

I don't care about tunes or cameras in a phone (that's why I spent the bucks for a decent sound system and digital camera) but I definitely need to get excellent reception, voice quality, and volume.

Guess what I ended up with? The free Nokia 6010! I had people at T-Mobile call me on several different phones, and the 6010 had the best audio quality by far. Frankly, it blew the flip phones out of the water. Reception is great, battery life is phenomenal. OK, it's a brick, but it's well under 4 oz ---less than some flips. I can take it to the 'barely there' areas of cell phone coverage and still get a decent signal, no dropped calls.

Wish it had a few more wallpaper choices just for fun, and definitely wish it had international tri-band - but all is not lost, I still have another old Samsung to go to Europe with me. P.S. The alarm feature is awesome. It flashes bright lights and just won't shut up until you really wake up and turn it off - great for getting to work on time when you're travelling on business!

If you prefer function to frippery, you might just like the Nokia 6010.

For your first question, you can simply go to Settings > Main display > and turn the Power saver off. I don't know about your question on always opening up to the main menu though. I have a question as well. Does anyone know how to transfer data such as images and mp3 ringtones from your PC to the phone without the USB Pop Port cable and if that's even possible. Also, what programs would you need to transfer data. Does it come with the USB cable or can you download one off a website for free?

I have the 6103 and it always dims. I cant figure out how to keep the backlight to stay on. Also when i close my phone i want it to go to the main screen instead of staying on the same screen that it was on when i closed it. Please Help!

I just got this phone today and personally, I think it's great. It's not the latest and the greatest but it has all the basics, great reception, and for the price I paid, it's pretty damn good. =) I'd give it an overall 7 out of 10.

If you decide to read through all the review you might discover some who claim that the phone uses an other connector so that you cannot use your old charger.
Again this is totally crap from a user that haven't use 5 seconds with this phone. YES it still has the well known Nokia connector for the charger. My god there are so many reviews with so many faults here.
Use your mind and don't put too much attension to most of the reviews here.

I made a 3 day SERIOUS study to find out which phone should replace my Nokia 7650.

I also read all the crappy reviews from a lot of people here. It's realy choking how bad peoples judgement are.

The phone has 4.2 MB RAM and THATS IT. If you want more, then find an other phone. What people can buy a phone and complain about the memory size after? (ROFL)

Take a look on the lens of any cell phone camera and everyone will know that you will NEVER take quality photos. The camera in a phone isn't ment for that purpose. Buy a REAL camera if you want good quality.

For the money the 6103 is the absolute best buy. I read a lot of reviews on Samsung, SE ect. NONE of them can perform a well as the 6103 for that price.

Please stop whining about visible antenna. Don't buy the phone if you don't like it. IT'S THAT EASY.

Reviews about broken display.....come on man, take care of you phone and don't blaim Nokia for throwing phones on the floor.

Nokia has an excellent sound, so don't beleave this crap about background noise.

The 6103 got only 8 ringtones. Christ....how difficult is it to download further tones and some eaven for free?

Some people might thing if the phone had 10 MB memory then It could be better. But why? 10 MB is worth NOTHING if you plan to store MP3. You would need 1000 times more....LOL!
Buy an ipod or a far more expensive phone if you want more memory...and stop whining.

Be aware if you want more functions then the size of the phone would be bigger. So if you go for a phone of that design and price....it's the best on the market. LG, Samsung, Sony, Siemens ect. don't have anything better for THAT price.

So go and pay more if you expect more.....you will not get 40 MB RAM and 4 M Pixel cam for free.

I have a family plan with T-Mobile and just purchased four of the Nokia 6103 phones. I did some research about this phone on numerous websites and it seemed like a good quality phone for the price. Well, much to my disappointment, the phones aren't all that great. I love the look of it, the black color is great, and it's a pretty light weight phone... Hmmm, that's about it. It bugs me that it only has 8 ringtones (none of which I like); additionally, the fact that the screen doesn't return to "normal" after you close the phone is also irritating (it stays in whatever menue you were in last). But the thing that bugs me the most is the fact that the clarity on this phone SUCKS. The minute you dial a phone number and it connects, you hear this "white noise"...this swishy sound that is ALWAYS there and gets worse as you increase the earpiece volume to be able to hear someone better. I thought that it was only my phone, but after checking all the other 3 that I bought, I realized that they all had the same problem. I have another phone through Verizon (LG VX8300) and the clarity on the phone is excellent! When I used both of them at the same time, you hear dead silence on the LG VX8300; however, the Nokia 6103 has that background noise that is very annoying. For the above mentioned issues that I have with this phone, I am definitely sending all of them back before my 14 days expire. I am quite disappointed...I really thought I would have liked this phone, but maybe another model in the future...Thanks

Love the clear positive seperate key keypad, happy with usual nokia easy to use menu system and display. But am sending 6103 back because signal acqusition is so poor phone is unusable. Old brick nokia next to it has full bars signal when this fluctuates from 3 to 2 to 1 to dropout.

this is my first nokia, after having a sony and a motorola i like the menuing and setup of the nokia the best. i am also a fan of the software for computer sync etc. messaging is great.

my only problem with this phone is that it only lasted 2 mo. the screen is having difficulty staying on. my other two phones lasted a year each so i feel this is a delicate model. the screen rubs against the keys when closed and gets scratched. also the rubber coat paint on the outside rubs off within days of owning it.

i am still a fan of this phone, but i will not replace it with the same one. i'm going to try a 6131 instead and hopefully it will not have the same flaw.

Like the phone very much, just customized it, UI kinda slow, but i can deal with, got a deal on this phone. The black exterior is really attractive, have great reception with the FM. Great battery life. Great upgrade from the 6101. Will keep this phone for a while. All feature packed, bluetooth, and all those stuff.

My only complaint is it seems you cant turn off the camera shutter sound and its hard to pair a bluetooth headset with it. The charger socket is very different with other nokia phones, u need to buy an adapter to charge the phone. For Obex, its very easy, all my bluetooth phones found it and successfully transferred files

                                    This phone stinks!
The earpiece is too low. When I went to T-Mobile I was told that you need to buy the bluetooth piece in addition to the phone and yes many others did complain about the same problem.
