Designwise it is a sleek, stylish and execlusive looking phone. The built is strong and sturdy unlike other clamshells in the market. The buttons are big, soft and pleasant to push.
Featurewise, it is sophisticated but nokia could have done better especially the interface. The interface doesn't really push its 65K screen to the limit. It is rather dull and annoying to look at especially the straight line accross my wallpaper and those black icons on the main display. Try to change your color schemes to grey, you color screen 'devolve' to Nokia 2300's. Although Nokia is the pioneer of user friendliness phone, I found its navigation is not that flexible. For example in the gallery menu, if I choose an image, there is option to set the image to become my wallpaper but it is lack of option for me to associate the image to one of my contacts. It is the same thing with sounds where I can set it as my ringtones from there but I can't set it as my message tone. Another thing is the delivery report, it comes as another sms which is I have to delete it myself. SonyEricsson did something better with its delivery report and maybe Nokia want to copy that. GPRS and EDGE are undoubtly an excellent connectivity feature but lack of bluetooth which is more preferable than infrared is totally a turn off.
Performancewise, as always Nokia's OS really good at typing sms. Other phone usually slows down as the message get longer but that doesn't happen in this 6170. The camera is good although it is not as fast as other phone.
Overall, it is a pricey phone compare to other brand but it looks really melt my heart.

WOAH This is a Class 10 Edge? The V635 is a Class 4 and is 3 times faster then a 56k modem! Pretty good for a phone but this is a Class 10 this must be real fast then :O!

yes it does support..i tried transfering through my pda's infrared..its was quick and easy..this phone's infrared is great

I have just ordered the Nokia 6170 from Orange and i am now having a look to see all these reviews on this site and others and one thing i notice on all of them is that people say there is low memory. Well how about you delete all the un-used clipart, wallpapers, ringtones and game so that you have more memory for the things you want such as pictures and videos!
The phone in my opinion has an awsome design and looks very cool indeed. I am glad i bought it and i cant wait to recieve it. I tried it out in a store and it works like magic, But i will have to wait and see if i have any problems with the phone turning itself off.

I can asure you this is the best mobile phone that i ever bought. Its nice and great features. The camera is great. I think every flip phone with camera, mp3 etc..have a low memory...
Its not a bad mobile phone! Its a great phone ... buy this phone and u`ll be happy.

I bought this phone about 2 months ago. I agree it has a low memory but i dont agree that the screen turns black and it switch itself off....I think you bought a second hand mobile phone. Am I right ? This phone is great. Great design and great features! The only thing i dislike on this phone is the memory and nothing more....10x

HELP PLS! I've had my phone for about two weeks and the mini-display seems to have given up, the screen glows a dark blue colour and thats it, can anyone shed any light? plssss!!

Nice looking phone with no memory at all.
factory settings uses 1.5 mb and leaves u with 800k to play with.
Nokia need shooting for releasing this phone with no storage.

Very pretty phone. Heavy, but that's OK. THIS PHONE IS WAY TOO BIG! It should be half as thin as it is. I have had problems with the phone powering down on its own. I also had the volume up button stop working. It is not accessable in software either. No bluetooth! Nokia's service is terrible! I will be getting rid of the phone!

i'm interested in this phone, does anyone know if the classical erik satie ringtone is installed on it?
it is on some nokia's, but not on mine now. and can't seem to download it from the nokia site.
it wouldn't be a selling point, but def. a + point. thanks

omg i saw this phone yesterday in real life for the first time. i fell in love with it on the net. But when i opened it I could CRY in the store. i was SO disappointed!!!! the inner metal was dark in stead of shiny silver as seen on the pictures; WHY OH WHY???

Got it exactly a month now, and the main screen is starting to malfunction, everytime i open it, the big display goes blank, impossible to see anything, so i guess i'll go to the phone shop, getting it replaced or, why not, buy another model...

It's great coz it's small and really compact but the memory of the phone is really low, i want to take pictures of my friends and some other relevant information to be stored but it cannot accommodate it... Nokia please please make some adjustment about this phone coz it rocks when it has more memory!!! Sometimes i think or thought to just trade the phone with another one with a memory card... happy moments to be captured is limited and it sucks!!! PLEASE NOKIA... I will be waiting for any improvement to this phone... please it's really cool with a high memory....

Hey All,
I got the phone for my birthday and i must say its a nice piece. I love the desgin, a few of my friends call it the fridge but pictures of it dont do it justice. The clarity of the main screen is fantastic and the mini display is the same quality as the Nokia 3200, which is ok for a mini display. I cant seem to play real tones and the tones that came with the phone are not the bestm which would be my only complaint. Ive also had no probs whatsoeverwith the phone turning off or freezing which has happened to some ppl. Overall, if your considering buying this phone, get it! doubt you'll be disappointed!
