Hi folks from ROmania, Europe. I just bought this phone today and i'm thrilled!!! I went shopping, i was gonna buy a 7200, but couldn't find one, only in light colours and it's kinda hard tot take care of it. The girls from the shop recomended 6170, it took me about an hour to decide (i guess they thought i don;t wanna buy anything, just fooling around :D). I hope the minidisplay problem will not show.... will see. I love this phone after all... it;s perfect 4 me, too bad no MP3. SOmebody said here that u can use MP3 as ringtone... feel free to mail me how to do this

Nokia 7270 bought in Jan
V 03.22

RM 8
7270

As for Nokia 6170, I bought it a few days after its launch in Singapore, the few days wait is because when I get to the shop the first day, the first batch was sold out. Seems that I got the newer version of the Software when I bought it in last Dec and I have encounter the mini LCD problem only once and not again.
I am from Consumer Electronic Business, when it comes to components on PCB, event for $0.01, we will save. And manufacturing of different component is easy, it is just computer program of mounting machine. Soldering machine is the same.
Looks like it must need both Software & Hardware change.

As I see new firmware is already released... Maybe I'll install new one soon. By the way, all you must remove to see that cases of 6170 and 7270 are the same is metal a cover of battery compartment. Take it off as when you want to replace the battery and you'll see the rounded corner of a case on the right-bottom (closest corner to the recharger hole). Technologically memory and FM module are very cheap to produce and I think it's not nesessary to mount 2 assembling lines for identical models and it's easier to just remove this functions by the firmware. It's similar to activation of 2-layer burning on DVD-R devices by changing firmware.

My phone is bought in Dec 04 with
V 03.22

What is your full info of V 03.211?
The PCBs maybe the same, but I do not think so Nokia is stupid enough to mount the components that provides extra memory & FM Radio. I think the SW Version is the same for Nokia 7270.
Unless some hardware guy knows what are the additional components needed to mount and possibly some to be removed to have the same hardware as Nokia 7270.
I have both, but I do not like the idea of opening up both Phones to check as they too expensive to play with.
Or maybe Nokia can do it for a certain fee.

Greetings from Russia! I'm using this phone from dec'04 and have same problems with mini display: it shows horizontal lines though image after some time being turned on. It's a software problem. I think it should be solved in next firmware version (current and last is V 03.211). And now LISTEN: as we know NOKIA released 7270 phone with larger memory and FM-radio. 7270 looks just like 6170 but has a round-shape corner. And if we'll get 6170's back cover off, we can see THE SAME ROUND-SHAPE corner! These phones have the same hardware so I think FM radio and memory in 6170 are just hidden by firmware and if we'll try to upload 7270's firmware to 6170 we may get hidden functions back!!!! Maybe anyone have an ability to prove that???

I bought this phone last week and the mini display went out the same day I got it. I had to turn the phone off and on again for it to work. It wa fine for a few days and now it started to do the same thing again for the last 3 days straight. I am in Canada and bought it unlocked- It's a lot of money to pay for a phone that doesnt work well!
I like the design of the phone and the features but the external mini display has a serious problem.

Yo... Been reading up on this phone and I must say I've been in love with it for awhile. Though it does seem like a good phone to buy, there are a few draw-backs. If you need bluetooth, well, you ain't gonna find it here. Ditto for FM radio. Also the memory space is tiny! Nokia could have introduced a bigger space with such a new model! One major problem seems to be the LCD display. Be sure to inspect your LCD before the purchase! You don't want it to spoil the experience! By the way, did you know that the production of this phone was outsourced to BenQ?!
I think this phone is worth buying. It is extremly asthetically pleasing and the pricing is resonable. And since I am not one who's totally concerned for features like megapixels, video time and etc, this phone is worth my dollar.
