Cool phone! Loved it. Most of my friends are impressed by it's look. The phone is not v well publicised here so many of them are not aware of it's existence. Didn't regret getting it instead though it does not have blue tooth which is not my main concern. As for the radio, all I have to do is to swap phone which my hubby (whom is using my 7200) while i travel oversea or to beach! For ppl whom are still contemplating.. BUY IT!!!

p/s I don't get any commission for that comment.

Can the operator name such as "TMOBILE" or whatever, removed from the main display?

Arzamond, that would depend on your priority. For me, I go for 6170 cos' I like the design. In terms of function, I would say 6230 is definitely more superior. I had placed an order for 6170 and will be receiving it in a short while. Will keep you posted!

very good phone, nice and simple design, and i don't really need blutooth or mp3 player. (but too bad, no mp3 for ringtone...)
my question for those who already use this phone,
what is the ringtone format? midi?
and which is better, this or N6230 ?

Its $298 Singapore dollars (S$/SGD). The exchange rate of USD to SGD is 1 US Dollar = 1.63320 Singapore Dollar as per today. The phone will costs abt SGD 500 without contract here so that's abt the same as in US.

$298 American dollars for this phone w/ two year contract is too much. It retails for $359 here in NYC last time I checked. Don't do it for that price, just buy it full price with no contract.

On this phone, I cant use the stupid web good because Tmobile USA only offers Tzones without a subscription. I can't use it as a modem either without subsciption to yet another service. I can't use e-mail either because it keeps saying "settings-incomplete." Luckily though, these are things I don't seriously need more than just a good looking phone.

Looks like i'll be using my future Sprint PCS Samsung i550 for my phone-as-modem needs :-D

So what's so great about this fone? no bluetooth, no radio, no mp3 player. well, just be in contact with it and you will LOVE it. Its "steel appeal" is enough to overthrow all its lacking features. (of coz not to forget all the user friendly features of nokia) People who buy this fone must be crazy for metallic stuff and do not need all the extra features. (especially people like me who already have a gd mp3 player.) wanted to get a bluetooth fone for very long but in the end, just couldn't resist the stainless steel attraction. (can get the bluetooth adaptor if really want bluetooth) the internal screen is big and of very gd quality. camera though not megapix one, is fantastic. the IR connection with my laptop is really good and i was amazed at how the pictures transfered over displayed on the screen. the fone construction is very sturdy and if you throw in your favourite wallpaper, trust me, you will open the flip very soon you close it. just to have a second look. and a third. and a fourth......
                            superb fone by nokia.

Singapore is selling at S$298 (v good price) if we sign up for 2 yr plan with service provider and they are giving away a free bluetooth adaptor. Sounds like a good buy but I still have reservation as it doesn't support MP3 and it has no radio (not like I always use the function but nice to go beach with just a hp which it plays music). Am currently using a N7200. Stranded with the decision to make...

I recieved one of these for testing. The handset looks nice and has good features. What i lack is bluetooth (i can do without), memory card (i can do without that too) and good coverage(that i cant do without). I had quite some problems with signal, even with another N6170 i noticed this same problem. I even measured the signal which showed good signal in that specific area. Other Nokia handsets performed well in that area. This was a downer as i really liked this handset. R.

At last, a phone that has a keyboard a man with fat fingers can use. The screen is a gem and the clam protects the screen from all the loose change in my pockets.

Yes it has no bluetooth but who cares, the memory is limited but then again so is your PDA, mangement of files prevents waste. As you can tell I dont to attached to following market fads, if I did I wouldnt have brought the 6170.

                                      In summary the 6170 is solid phone that meets all of my main requirements and at last addresses the more mature market segment in providing;

                                      1. Triband
                                      2. Has Infra Red
                                      3. Keyboard to sustain high text speed
                                      4. Excellent screen
                                      5. And if I really feel the needs for BT, the adaptor is a gut wrenching £20, bank busting.
