When I read the reviews about 6170 and saw the photos I liked the phone so much,so yesterday I bought one, however when I compare the photos here with the actual one I saw that in my main menu there is a horizantal line on top of the operator logo.. It stays there even you turn off the themes or change the wallpaper.. The phone is very nice I liked it but I hated the line which will stay there forever... Maybe somebody can tell me how to get rid of that line..Thank you..

No problem. I suspect memory is going to be pretty annoying too for most people. I think it's like 2mb per category, and there are three categories. Something like that. That I'll tell you as I get more familiar with the phone. I myself don't do much with my cell phone so it probably won't affect me much. I'm more revolving around my PDA.
Next step is for me to figure out how to use this phone as a modem for my IPAQ 4350 in the US.

Sorry for the delay. here's the review:
Date purchased: Sat Jan 8th
Price: $370 + tax
Company bought from: Myworldphone.com
Date released: According to them, 5 weeks prior to my purchase date, and at that time, the price was $570. But keep in mind, in America, because we have bad phones, we have to pay whatever importers want to charge.
Again, I almost went with the 7270, and may in the future if I can sell my 6170 at near the same price I bought it at, and if the price of the 7270 drops by $150.
So far, I'm loving this phone. It does everything I want. Although the con list may seem long, it's more just annoyances and not really cons. If anyone knows anything about these annoyances, then please let me know.
Pros -
- Looks: Open this phone up and it's beautiful. This is where you're going to get people looking at it. Pictures don't do this phone justice because shiny steel inside really looks nice. The flat buttons make the phone look and feel nice as well.
- Typical easy to use Nokia interface
- Mini display in front shows missed calls and messages all the time
- Easy shortcut left nav button = compose text message but.... (See cons)
Cons -
- Phone's kinda thick
- Plain looking in front and back
- Whenever you go to the compose text message screen, the last message you sent is still there and you have to clear the text by either holding the clear button forever, or maneuvering through options and selecting "clear text".
- when not lit, Dark screens make it hard to tell if you have a missed call or message without taking a closer look, or turning a light on.
- No "light" button means you have to hit the volume up or down button, and then wait for a second to see any statuses on cell phone mini display
- Accidentally hitting the push to talk button on the right side(under the assumption you odn't use it) causes the phone to ask if you want to enable push to talk, which means you have to open the phone up and select "no"
- Flat buttons make it hard to figure out what you're typing because you can't tell which button is which
-Ringtone player isn't as good as Sony Erriccson T60i's because the same ringtones sounded better on my Sony
- Doesn't easily group sim card entries - for example, John/M and John/W wouldn't automatically be under John. You have to move it to the phone and do it manually.
- No bluetooth, but Infrared's the temp solution. Yet to grab the data cable.
- Small amount of memory means a 515kb mp3 file I wish to use at a ringtone kills most of what I have.
Let me know if you have any further questions. I'll keep visiting here often until I get sick of my phone. At that point, come get me via email.

Just got it last night. For everyone who's been following, I've been discussing the purchase of this phone on this forum for over a month now when I decided to get a Nokia instead of a Razr. Before I get into the review, I thought the story of purchasing this might be interesting.
- Purchase of Nokia 6170 over the 7270-
After almost two weeks since the (Dec 2nd?) release, I finally found some links on google and yahoo for vendors of this phone. the price I found ranged from $450-$500. I was still counting on my friend, who was visiting Dubai during this time, to find it over there too. he said it would probably be the cheap there. Finally, a couple days ago, myworldphone.com popped up on a google search for the Nokia 6170 - and listed the price at $370. right about then, my friend in Dubai told me to go he just talked to the UAE Nokia distributor and the phone wouldn't be released there anytime soon. So now Dubai was out. This company would be my only option.
I had to pick up my Dubai friend from JFK airport in New York City yesterday, where myworldphone.com was based out of. So I asked if I could come by and buy the phone there, and they said no problem. I went to their store with a very cell-phone savvy friend of mine. I asked for the 6170, and was shocked at how good it looked in real life. Just the front is plain, but the pictures online don't do this phone justice (I'll explain more on appearance in my review). I also looked at some other phones they had there - Nokia 6260 (black), the new communicator 9500 (just for the hell of it), and the Nokia 7280 (the rectangle phone).
The 6260 was what I first considered, but the lack of a mini-display and its bulky size turned me away from it. However, it did have the best looking front. the other two phones (7280 and 9500) I looked at just for fun.
What I didn't anticipate was how much I'd be attracted to the Nokia 7270. this phone was beautiful too. (According to the people there, this phone was designed by Gucci, but you guys might know better). Shape and weight was similar to the 6170, but the colors were cool, and when you open it up, the shiny black casing really looked good. the only problem was that it was $500, and with tax, $150 more than the 6170.
Me and my cell phone savvy friend excused ourselves for a few moments, went out to our car, grabbed our wireless laptop, and tried to get online to compare the 6170 and the 7270 (the boxes there really weren't helpful, and I trust my own research over salesmen's research). we were trying to decide if there were any other features to make the 7270 worth $150 more. But there were none. And I wasn't comfortable paying $150 for design only. So I went back in and bought the nokia 6170 for $399 (after taxes).
Last thing - when the nokia 6170 came out at this store 5 weeks ago (I wish I had known this, now I know to watch this site for new releases), the phone was $570. 5 weeks later, it dropped $200. That being said, since the 7270 came out last week, maybe 5 weeks from now it'll be at a more affordable price. At that point, or maybe a few months from now, I may consider seeing how much I can get for my nokia 6170 on ebay, and then going and purchasing the 7270.
If any of you guys decided to buy from myworldphone.com (who I highly recommend), say Shahryar - the guy who was there on sat jan 8th debating between a 6170 and a 7270 - referred you.

Drew, I haven't gotten it yet, but if all goes well, I'll have it by this weekend. I have a friend leaving Dubai in two days and hopefully he'll be able to grab it. If he can't, in New York city, there's a guy selling them and I'll just get it from him. I'm pretty much feeling that this phone is a good phone, but probably not worth the money. But I'm just in a situation now where there's nothing else out worth getting. And I know there are bright things in the future, but I just don't feel like waiting for them. Especially since phones are delayed so much.
I'll let you know my personal opinion once I get it. If anyone wants to talk me out of getting this, please do so within the next few days.

to cha_cha,
I've been following your quest for the 6170 , did you end up buying it? If so, what are your impressions of it? I'm going through the same debate with the 6260.. and even contemplating waiting for the 3128. How do you like 6170 in terms of menu speed, battery life.. any annoying functions or options that you have to go through?
