    To SHOLA:

As I said, If NONE of that WORKS you just have to do what I did once again and take out the MMC and put it back in until the password lock have disappeared. Have faith.

      To SHOLA:

I'm sorry about your problematic memory card. Let me tell you my story and then you can try a thing or two with yours.

I assigned a password to my MMC (not recommended). One day I used my Card Reader put some stuff on the phone and I don't quite remember what happened before the MMC went back into the phone but let's just say that it wasn't smooth sailing in terms of shutting down the Card Reader in Windows XP before taking out the MMC out of the Card Reader.

When I put the MMC back in the phone it was password locked...now remember, I assigned a password so I said to myself no problem. I put in my password about 10 times and it didn't work so I took out the MMC and re-insert it back into the phone and tried again, same thing, I had to take it out and put in back in about 8 times before it accepted the password. Ever since that I disabled the password for good. I realised that EVEN if I DIDN'T assign a password from the beginning, the phone would have prompted me for one in that rare instance, which is what you are facing now.

Shola, take my advice, you can do it, you can restore your MMC back in a normal working condition. Try turning the phone off, then take out the battery, memory card, SIM card and leave them out for a while. Sometimes when the battery is out for a while it restores several things in the phone...you can say it frees up the RAM (Random Access Memory).

If it still doesn't work do a factory reset then turn off the phone immediately, once the phone has shut down, press and hold the power button for 30 secs. or more, then take out the battery and MMC and leave them out for about 5 mins.

If NONE of that you just have to do what I did once again and take out the MMC and put it back in until the password lock have disappeared.

A question, ARE YOU SURE NOBODY FOOLED AROUND YOUR PHONE AND PUT A PASSWORD ON YOUR MMC ? Because if somebody did NONE OF WHAT I'M TELLING YOU WILL WORK UNTIL A PASSWORD IS TYPED IN THE PHONE.

I have given you all my suggestions, there's nothing more I can say to help you.

For the record though, the password feature is VERY RISKY and is done at the owner's risk. If the password should be forgotten the MMC will ONLY work in the phone which assigned the password to it UNLESS a similar case like SHOLA's should happen where the phone falls or some unusual and rare malfuntion happens, in that case NOT even the phone which assigned the password will be able to use the MMC. Once you assign a password it WON'T work in any other device, whether it be a phone, digital camera, MP3 Player, GPS and other devices that uses MMC you name it...NOT even a Card Reader! In fact, you NEED to remove the password BEFORE inserting the MMC in a Card Reader because Card Readers DON'T ask for passwords, instead the computer WILL FREEZE and you will have to remove the MMC from the Card Reader for the computer to stabilize again. A friend of mine said he assigned a password to their MMC and forgot the password and ended up throwing away the MMC...that is how SERIOUS this password protection is! There's NO BYPASS, you HAVE to remember the password in order to unlock the MEMORY CARD !!! Nokia 6230 owners use this password lock feature at their own risk!!! Don't say you weren't warned.

            To JUDE:

To answer both questions in regards to the reason for size differences for MMC on screen compared to what is on the label and the best MMC for the Nokia 6230:

First of all, you DON'T get the actual size quoted on the label due to formatting data which needs to be on the MMC for it to function properly. I know it sucks but that's just the way it is. Let me explain more into details.

The quoted size as seen on the label is actually true but in order for the memory card to function it needs to have internal data which NO CUSTOMER can modify. However, depending on the MMC brand you will get a bit more storage space because some MMCs doesn't require an extensive amount of system data on the card. When you buy a 512MB MMC, that is the overall size but the internal system data takes away 16.8MB, which we could all make good use of, sadly.

As I said before, depending on the brand MMC you can get a bit more, for example, I purchased a A-Data 'My Flash' 512MB MMC and the size shown on screen was 495.2MB. For personal reasons I exchanged it for a Kingston 512MB MMC and the size shown on screen was 497.4MB which is an additional 2.2MB compared to to the A-Data. One disadvantage though is that the Kingston costs more than the A-Data. So JUDE as you can see, the amount of storage you get varies from brand to brand.

To answer your question as to which MMC

So far I have come across four MMC brands and sizes which worked flawlessly:

            1. A-Data 'My Flash' 512MB (RS-MMC)

            2. Kingston 512MB (RS-MMC)

            3. Transcend 1GB (MMC Plus!)

            4. Supertalent 256MB (MMC Plus!)

The MMC Mobile is a combination of MMC Plus! and RS-MMC...meaning you get the speed of the new technology MMCs in a reduced size (RS). All the MMC types out there are related to each other in one way or the other.

There are others which is said to work like a charm. You just have to test other brands and see for yourself. I have pointed out the ones which I KNOW works. Take care JUDE.

                    Good evening.
I have a 6230 with the 05.35 firmware version, witch is the best one so far. The is faster, and I have no software breakdows. To answer to some questions: In my opinion the best MMC you can buy is Kingstone. To define a password to the card all you have to do is to press options insted of opening the MMC file. In my opinion this is one of the best Nokia fhones ever. Have you ever tried to connect a PC to the net using the internel phone modem??? It's amazing...

                        I have a 1GB and it's WORKING FINE.
As I said before, I tried my 1GB in a phone with a similar firmware like yours and it worked fine. The only problem is that firmware 4.28 and similar firmwares show a 1GB MMC as 80MB but it works and you can store 1GB of data on it just the same. Try it for yourself and see. I use a TRANSCEND 1GB.

How do you create a password for your memory card?
I have tried creating a password, but the phone needs a paasword first before I can create one.
There is no password on the memory card, as the phone do not need a password when you enter it.

this phone is great. i have a few questions though. yesterday i upgraded my nokia 6230 v4.44 to a v5.50 is 5.50 the latest? another thing the guy mentioned to me was that my nokia was "made in china" and its a big risk if i update it, is that true or is it BS? i upgraded it anyways, and my phone is fine, but i have a nokia 6230b which has fw v5.35 and its also made in china, and i dont want to risk it breaking if i upgrade or downgrade the fw. my last and final question is, before the upgrade to 5.50, my phone had a "IM" instant messenger application, after the upgrade i dont have it anymore, is there a way i can get this program? and put it back on the menu list? does anyone know what that application is called? i have it on my 6230b as well. but now my 6230 newly upgraded, does not have it. anyways, thanks.
