Definitely the fastest and most useful phone I've ever had! Menus are as fast as you, if not talking about personal media menus. They may contain much files and they're naturally slower. Keys are very nice to use. Also all features mentioned in the review, work. Camera's contrast is too strong and lightness too weak, but will there ever be a perfect phone? If I had the same phone with QWERTY-keyboard, I would be a bit happier. :)

I recently bought mine off of a friend who has had it for a year now. Everything is working fine, but when I take a standard photo the picture comes up slightly blocky along the sides of what I took a picture of. e.g. I took a pic of a hat and thte curves where not completely smooth like on my other friends 6230, but slightly blocky. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Please help as I really do like this phone and this is the only fault with it. Thanks.

Here's my take on my lovely 6230...

Now, it's important to really know the phone before buying it. The first attraction to the phone was mainly on it's look. But over the course of courting the phone, I learnt that, what came with the high price, is a list of goodies that until now, I never thought I could live without. I'm listing down some of it down here, and if you find that these are the stuff you'd want, then this phone is for you.
You're stylish. And you like wireless headset.
The phone is stylish for a candybar design. It's professional looking and definitely for grown-ups. Not for kids. With Bluetooth, you could adorn your favorite wireless headset with your phone neatly tucked in your pocket or handbag. The phone's BT is stable especially with the latest firmware version 5.35. It's compatible with any BT headset. Not just Nokia.
You put your life in Microsoft Outlook.
If you're a heavy Outlook user like me, you'd love this phone. It could synchronize your Calendar, Phonebook, Task and Notes. I used to have a PDA to synchronize these information, but thanks to 6230, the PDA is kept in the drawer and my pocket couldn't be any comfortable as the 6230 is the only thing that I carry around now. Don't worry about forgeting your next appointment or that extra information in the Phonebook such as e-mail address or mailing list, the phone synchs all of those information. I can't say much more about the importance of this feature.
You love music.
The Digital Music Player in the phone is superb. The interface may not be that colorful or hi-tech looking, but it plays music well. Very well. The latest firmware will detect all Mp3 files in your phone regardless of the folder. That means, your playlist will be all of the mp3 in both your phone and MMC card. Click 'play' and what you will get is crystal clear music that even audiophiles could not complaint much. I modified by HDS3 headset so that it could be connected to a normal 3.5mm headphone jack. So, I'm always listening the mp3s in my high quality headset.
You use your phone to listen to music and watch videos. You need huge memory.
So the phone plays mp3. But if the phone is also your music player, then you'd appreciate the expandable memory. I'm using a 512Mb MMC card now. It's loaded with lots of mp3 files. Slot the card in a USB card reader, drag those huge mp3 files in, slot the card back into the phone - and you're ready to go. I love MMC card. It's cheap, fast and stable.
You like exhanging files and also sending MMS. And uses the phone to store some confidential files too.
The beauty of the phone's Bluetooth is that it supports file transfer profile - unlike many other other phones out there where they only support headset profile. I could effortlessly send files around either through BT, IR or cable. Good thing, the phone accepts whatever file format eventhough it doesnt't support it. That means, the phone acts like a thumb-drive too. But I rarely use this advantage. Now tell me, what other mobilephone bar smartphone can do this? The phone has a VGA camera. Snap the picture, (with latest firmware), press the Send button, and your picture will be on the MMS airwave. Cool.
You're practical. You like simplicity. You don't like waiting.
Series 40 interface is as simple as it gets. To view a picture, for example, just click on Galley and select the picture. To send it via BT, IR or MMS, just go to option and click Send. Simplicity. The phone's processing time is superb. It's blazing fast. From booting up and all the way to jumping menu to menu, the phone has minimal lag. It just follows through as fast as you can think of your next move. In this, it even put some Smartphone to shame. Core simplicity is the part where you use the phone to, well, have a conversation. It's a perfect 10 in terms of clarity and signal strength.
There you go. The big six reasons of why 6230 was meant for me. There are other features that are available too, like recording voice and phone conversation or small video shooting. Getting mp3 or the FM radio to wake you up through the alarm, or use mp3 as ringtone. When I'm bored of its look, I just simply change the cover. But the big six was the deal breaker. If it's applicable to you, then why not?
The latest 6230i ups the ante. I've read the review and it's really impressive. But for me, the 6230 with 512Mb card... will still be great even for years to come. Not sure I'd want to spill my cash to Nokia for 6230i just yet.

I upgrade my 6230 firmware at Nokia Service Center... it should take ~1hr only. It was an upgrade from 4.43 to 5.35.
My wife's 6230 is still running on ver4.28. On ver5.35, other than different menu structure, one obvious difference is MUCH BETTER STABILITY in terms of bluetooth use, huge file transfer and using MMC as default folder for voice recorder and camera.
Just go to the nearest Nokia Center.

best phone i have used have had it for 14 months now and cannot fault it one bit battery life excellent and so are all the features u get on it what more can u ask for a phone a classic and one of the best ever

how long will this battery hold if i use the phone for atleast 4-5 hrs a day?i want a very efficient battery....i can never get my hands(or ears) off the phone!

I like my 6230 fine, not sure about the battery life, lasts good with just the fone, but the goodies not so good,I am having trouble with it freezing up using bluetooth headset, any ideas have to turn the fone off then back on. ok for a while.

it has poor battery life. i bought mine last week and im selling it already bcuz i never liked its performance.i even bought extra battery for it.

about the echoing noises your talking about, i never experienced any echo with the 6230 or any other nokia phone, until i got the 7610 (great fone) and this thing echoes like 2 seconds after you speak and then, by then the other person says "hello you there" by the time your voice is heard the other end its annoying but thats with a nokia 7610 not a 6230. im getting the 8800 as soon as its out and the 6230i soon and i will post about this echoing issue regarding them models.

I'm still loving the 6230 despite that there are many new models out there.
My upgrade to Firmware 5.35 has enabled me to use MMC 512Mb without any problems. Better still, i can store my MP3 in any folders and the Music Player can detect it! But duh! the player also plays my Mp3 ringtones...
While playing with my friends's phone... just learnt that the Bluetooth in Motorola e398 and O2 Xphone II does not support File Transfer and Modem connection... feel sorry for the users... that's why the 6230 is still a great phone.
Sorry, Nokia... don't think I'll go for the 6230i just yet. Coz this phone still rocks!

Impossible they have to echo, they are 6230's after all. Who ever i know who has a 6230 i question them on the reception and they tell me that they do hear echo effects of their voice on the phone. Its a common fault with the 6230 and Nokia are very embarresed about it which is why they brought out the 6230i you must work for Nokia my friend.
