I think it lacks the symbian os. If it does not have symbian OS , it is a very -point of this phone. But non Symbian OS Phones are more speeder than Symbian Phones.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for the low volume sms alert yet. Really love the phone but the sms alert is so quite you can't hear it go off in your pocket. The preview of the alert is loud but goes very quite when receiving sms's.

Thanks Andrew....Yeah, the up arrow inbox thing has become a bit of an obsession lol

It's silly things like defaulting to the sender field that irritate, why would they do this.

I went and had a look at another one today, but it was still on v3.70, so I left it.

              Thanks for your reply though.

                Hi Omegac, I have v4.52.

You cannot add "Inbox" to the up arrow shortcut.

When you reply to an SMS, you still go to the sender field by default.

I have my network mode set to GSM, so can't help you with your 3G question, sorry.

I haven't seen any "SIM card restriction" message when I start up the phone.

You're obviously very keen on setting up a shortcut to the inbox. One workaround is to add Inbox as the first item in the "Go To" list. You can then open the inbox by pressing Go To and then Select. Another is to enable Active Standby, personalise the lowermost panel to "Shortcut bar", and set the middle shortcut bar link to Inbox. You can then open the inbox by pressing up arrow and then Select. It's not as fast as just pressing up arrow, but only requires one additional keypress. Hope that helps!

                Andrew

Excellent phone, the battery is awesome. Just make sure you discharge the battery fully three times, and every now and then. A pleasure to use.

Can anyone with v04.52 tell me the following:

Can you add "inbox" to the up arrow shortcut

When you reply to a text, do you still go to the sender line and have to arrow down, or do you go into the message editing field?

If you're on 3G, are you experiencing random video dialling to contacts instead of voice dialling?

Any issues of "sim card restriction" coming up when you start up the phone?

                      Cheers

Azzrock, thank you very much! I loved the 6230, and hated how slow the 6230i was. Glad to hear that this phone has picked up the pace ;) Thanks!

Attention to users on 3G networks.

Battery life is quite bad, lasting about 15-18 hours with light use.
Watching about 10 min of streaming video and 20 sms, 30 min of mp3 play.

A few people have asked about fast forwarding videos. I haven't found a way to do it either, yet in the Media Player there is a setting for "FF/Rew interval". So it seems you can specify how much you want to fast forward or rewind, but can't actually do it. Who can solve this mystery?

(Just to clarify, you can fast forward and rewind in the Music Player by holding down the > buttons, as Roger has pointed out, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it in the Media Player, which is what's used for video clips, among other things.)

                              Andrew

Tedde, thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's good to see some "user opinions and reviews" rather than the same old questions being repeated. I know what you mean about trying to correct mistakes while predictive text is on. Just have to remember to press # twice to turn off T9, make your change, and press # twice again (you can also hold down "Options" to toggle T9, but that's actually slower).

James, you can't change the phone face or cover. So be careful not to damage the phone :-)

                                Andrew

Just to clarify, you can record phone calls. During the call, just press the right button (me thinks) and select "Record" from the menu. Unfortunally I don't think you can start recording directly when someone calls. If it's possible, then please tell. The recordings are saved in .amr format (roughly one minute of speech is 100k) and is playable with Quicktime. I have a fun recording of a drunk friend on mine =)

Now, I've had mine for a few weeks and thought I'd post my thoughts on it.

I'm really happy I bought this one. The size and weight is just perfect and I always get "whoo, nice sound" comments from my friends. It has rebooted a few times, but only when playing with bluetooth. I think it has rebooted a total of 2-3 times. Transferring files to / from my computer via bluetooth works like a charm otherwise.

I love how the phone is almost totally customizable, it's very important to me. However, I would like an option so I could choose the default message type when answering. I always answer as SMS, and if I'd want another, I'd rather go into a menu for that.

I'm having trouble getting the java programs to connect to the internet. I can browse webpages via wap over gprs and send / recieve MMS via gprs, but I can't get the java programs to use gprs, which is bad since I have opera mini on it and a msn client. If someone can help, please tell!

The sms typing system is good, but could be better. I really don't like how (when using T9) a whole word changes when you have typed one letter wrong and moves back so the word is selected and changed, when all you wanted to change was that single letter.

Also, I seem to lack more ways of inputting connection info. On my last Sony Ericsson, I could type in lots of info, ip number, dns, username, password and so on. Now I can only select a profile. It works good, but I would like the option of editing the connection info.

Overall, the phone has its negative sides, but the positive ones clearly wins the race! A shame, though, that Nokia won't let us use the Ptt button for other functions (we don't have Ptt in Sweden)

                                  8/10 from me!

This phone is good all over but can anyone tell me if you can change the phone face if it is damaged including the black bits that goes around the phone where the volume, camera and record button are?

                                    Thank you

I think this phone is good. This phone is 3G but I cannot see a second camera. Does that mean I can't make conference calls? and just take advantage of other 3G benefits?
