The Nokia 6300 is marketed by Nokia as a high end phone. It is CLEARLY BETTER than the 3500 classic. The only thing I see that the 3500 classic have over the 6300 is the phone book capacity at 2,000 contacts opposed to the 6300's 1,000 contact limit.
Let me break down the differences between both phones:
The 6300 has a 16,700,000 (16.7 Million) HIGH COLOUR screen. To top it off it has a QVGA screen resolution at 240x320 laced on a 2 inch screen. EVERYTHING on the 6300's screen looks OUTSTANDING! because The higher the colour depth and resolution, the sharper, more detailed, finer and realistic the images look. It's an amazing screen and you have to see it to believe it.
On the other hand, the 3500c has a 262,000 colour screen which is average these days. The resolution for the 3500c is 128 x 160 pixels which is now used in budget phones. Finally the screen is smaller at 1.8 inches. All in all the screen is just an ok one for the 3500 classic.
The 6300 is a bit slimmer but weighs 10 grams more.
Those are the main differences but the 3500 classic does have a higher capacity phone book, twice the amount of the 6300's phone book capacity. So, unless you know 2,000 persons and plan to store their phone numbers I suggest getting the 6300.

Sony Ericsson phones are FAR TOO WEAK in terms of build quality NOT TRUE . It's highly unlikely to see a SE phone being top phone of the year. MIGHT HAPPEN
Final thing, Nokia has been the NUMBER 1 leader in market sales for quite a few years and guess what, this year their sales have doubled!!! due to the 6300 (primary best seller) followed by the N95 and the E65. SOO ??? just becuase there Number 1..doesnt mean there the Best in everything ahahahah

plz tell me does nokia 6300 support softwares ie. anti-virus,spy( calles conversations record ) etc ?
and another thing is hows its sounds quality?
for incoming and as well as for listening to music? and also about the pictures n video quality?
I heard from some one that it doesn't have a good features.
plz reply me direct to my mail add. cause a lot of people posting their opinion everyday,
so it would be difficult for me to find out my solution from here.

To AZR:
MP4 videos work fine on my 6300. Ensure you have v5.00 software installed on the phone. Also, try a different converter like Allok Video to 3G Converter. Once I converted a video in MP4 format and all I heard was the sound. I converted the same video in MP4 format using a different converter and both picture and sound was perfect on my 6300.
Some converters does a better job than others, I should know, I have used a lot of them.
Sometimes the phones aren't to be blamed, in some cases the converters are the culprit.

It is nice, But do not support .sis file. Hence I can not install sotware related to voice recording, automatic phone recording etc. Any one know regarding software that can be installed in Nokia 6300, please inform me.

I was testing this fone also if it could play video in higher bit rates, but it lags in some video with very rich colors even if the video bit rate is only 128kbps (mp4, h.264, 3gp), ive tried many tests on it using total video converter. it can play the video in high bit rate (around 400 kbps) but the resolution has to be only 128x96 which results in very blurred video. unlike the 6230 that can play up to 584 kbps but unfortunately it has smaller screen and has no fast forward video...
and it is also not true that 3gp has lower video quality than the other formats (mp4, h.264) only the sound...

Those looking for games. Go to Gameloftdotcom. SMS charges apply to make order. each game is supposed to cost Rs.50 but I wan't charged for any game. Its already two months! I downloaded about 50 games! Check your luck.

TO ORIG. JAMAICAN:
well ive had this phone for like two weeks now and i like everything about it except its battery life. i was thinking of buying a 2gb card for it but i want to know if it will lag. because right now i am using the normal 128 mb card n when i open a folder with like 40mbs of games in it it takes a few seconds 2 open. i will not bother getting the card if it will lag alot. thanx in advance
