    my friend d.,
i'm trying to tell you that qcif is the half of cif, that means 352x288/2 = 176x144pxs
it's a little bit more than vga/4 (160x120)but unfortunately for nokia 6300 less even than this of 176x220 which is the one step down from qvga(320x240)in most devices!!!!that's worst for this phone!!!!

I'm a happy owner of nokia 6300. I have no problem with the battery life (no bussiness woman either ;+)
for HIREN: i have No problem with the sound(not when i have a call, nor when i lsten some music on the radio..), though someone who had this problem said its solved by going MENU-->MEDIA-->Equaliser-->set the second row to minimum.
I hope it will work for u too.

highwatcher: That's exactly what I said. QCIF=VGA/4 or QCIF is a quarter of VGA..or VGA=QCIFx4. Where is my mistake?
        P.S. Sorry 4 my english..I'm foreign.

most reviews are complaints about battery life, software, etc than go for nokia 6233 who has less problems compare to 6300

i bought this phone recently and i am sewverely disappointed. the battery lasts far shorter than is claimed. and the biggest disappointment is the camera. for a 2 megapixel camera, it sucks badly.

i have some few questions regarding the NOKIA 6300 Pone which i have bought recently, the is very stylish and sleek,

the problem which i am facing are :

                1. the phone gets heated after talking for more than three minutes, even while listening to the radio,

                2. while listening to the radio or else talking with the hands free the voice quality is very low.

                3. the loudspeaker has some tearing noise some times,

im not in to technical field so i dont have any idea about this, i would request any body if there is any changes to be done from the internal settings of the phone, as the equaliser which is given is not working on the songs or FM.

Kindly suggest me something about this

                  VGA : 640x480
                  QVGA : 320x240
                  CIF : 352x288
                  QCIF : ??

My friend QVGA IS THE HALF OF VGA-NOT QUARTER.....
So, QCIF might be THE HALF OF CIF resolution....
                  Greetings.......from Highwatcher

I have the 6300 since a few days. Most disturbing for me is the very strong (painful!) feedback sound, specially when the sourrounding is noisy. I guess the mic sensittivity is set too high.

I will probably return it, or just sell it.

Just traded this phone with a D900. Satisfy with this phone currently, feels more solid than the D900 and the basic functions are working normally whereas D900 has poor reception.

To luvnokia: This phone record videos in QCIF rezolutin, NOT in VGA (640x480) like 6233. QCIF=VGA/4! Yes, 4 times lower rezolution.

Got my new 6300 a few of days back.

First Impresion: The phone looks very good, with an all metal look. The silver and black contrast looks good. I read some people write that the phone looks similar to 3230. Looking at the photos may give you that impression, but let me tell you that’s not true when you see the phone up close, in front of you. The similarity is just to the extent of the black and silver combination. This one looks much better.
The phone feels excellent to grip, with no creaking sound even if you press it hard. It is of just the right height, width and depth. I am not too fond of short phone as I don’t find it comfortable to to hold it against my ear. The length of 6300 is just about perfect for me.

As soon as you turn on the phone, you are greeted by the magnificent 16.7 million colour screen. The colours are bright and vivid with excellent reproduction of colours. It has a QVGA resolution which makes browsing through pictures a delight. The pictures come to alive on this beautiful screen. I was using a Moto V3i before this which had a very competent screen to. But when you compare it with 6300, the latter wins by a big margin because of its brightness and above all…clarity.

It has 64 chord polyphony, so the ringtones sound pretty good. Not the best I have head, but still quite decent, and better than V3i. The bass is slightly more and the overall sound is more dynamic.

                                      UI
Nokia have done a very good job with the latest release of series 40 3rd Edition. This is the first series 40 phone that I’ve ever bought. I am a big fan of the symbian based series 60 and 2 of my previous phones (nokia 3650 and 6681) were symbian. But nokia has improved the series 40 interface a great deal and I really don’t miss the serie 60 interface anymore. And the biggest advantage that series 40 phones have over series 60 is SPEED. Let me tell you that I have used many phones in the past and I am sure this is the fastest that I have ever used.

Keypad : The keypad is very good with very good tactile feedback. The D pad and the four softkeys are even better.

Reception is typical Nokia like, i.e excellent. Again slightly better than V3i.

                                      Issues:

Battery Life: The battery lasts for about 1.5 - 2 days

Pop Port Cover is too hard to open

No Screen Brightness adjuster with firmware 4.20

Headphones are not of the best quality (bass is lacking but clarity is not quite decent)

Poor Camera Quality: There is a lot of noise in the pictures, especially indoor. The outside pics are better with decent colour reproduction but still there is too much noise for my liking. The pics look better on the phone screen than on the computer, again thanks to the brilliant screen.
Overall: I am more than satisfied with this phone. This phone is an excellent buy at this price (Rs. 11000 in India/ $250 USD).
