Got my new 6300 a few of days back.
First Impresion: The phone looks very good, with an all metal look. The silver and black contrast looks good. I read some people write that the phone looks similar to 3230. Looking at the photos may give you that impression, but let me tell you that’s not true when you see the phone up close, in front of you. The similarity is just to the extent of the black and silver combination. This one looks much better.
The phone feels excellent to grip, with no creaking sound even if you press it hard. It is of just the right height, width and depth. I am not too fond of short phone as I don’t find it comfortable to to hold it against my ear. The length of 6300 is just about perfect for me.
As soon as you turn on the phone, you are greeted by the magnificent 16.7 million colour screen. The colours are bright and vivid with excellent reproduction of colours. It has a QVGA resolution which makes browsing through pictures a delight. The pictures come to alive on this beautiful screen. I was using a Moto V3i before this which had a very competent screen to. But when you compare it with 6300, the latter wins by a big margin because of its brightness and above all…clarity.
It has 64 chord polyphony, so the ringtones sound pretty good. Not the best I have head, but still quite decent, and better than V3i. The bass is slightly more and the overall sound is more dynamic.
UI
Nokia have done a very good job with the latest release of series 40 3rd Edition. This is the first series 40 phone that I’ve ever bought. I am a big fan of the symbian based series 60 and 2 of my previous phones (nokia 3650 and 6681) were symbian. But nokia has improved the series 40 interface a great deal and I really don’t miss the serie 60 interface anymore. And the biggest advantage that series 40 phones have over series 60 is SPEED. Let me tell you that I have used many phones in the past and I am sure this is the fastest that I have ever used.
Keypad : The keypad is very good with very good tactile feedback. The D pad and the four softkeys are even better.
Reception is typical Nokia like, i.e excellent. Again slightly better than V3i.
Issues:
Battery Life: The battery lasts for about 1.5 - 2 days
Pop Port Cover is too hard to open
No Screen Brightness adjuster with firmware 4.20
Headphones are not of the best quality (bass is lacking but clarity is not quite decent)
Poor Camera Quality: There is a lot of noise in the pictures, especially indoor. The outside pics are better with decent colour reproduction but still there is too much noise for my liking. The pics look better on the phone screen than on the computer, again thanks to the brilliant screen.
Overall: I am more than satisfied with this phone. This phone is an excellent buy at this price (Rs. 11000 in India/ $250 USD).
You can mail me if you have any questions/queries about this phone @ arup10@rediffmail.com

Hi people,
To the friend who asked help for "how to transfer em (...files)directly to the memory card.."
My friend, this is not only with 6300.I have a 6233 (with a 2GB MicroSD) which is great phone and in order to transfer files, I never use the bluetooth or USB cable (if I have had,but I have not..).I propose to you-BUY A CARD READER AND YOU WILL FIND THE SOLUTION OF YOUR PROBLEM!!!!
You can make folders and subfolders in order to transfer files directly to them...It's the easiest and fastest way!! It's silly -for example- to wait some hours to transfer 1 GB of mp3 files via bluetooth!!!!
Have a nice day......

Just purchased this phone recently and like others i agree it's a great phone but battery life is an issue.
Nokia really need to allow the screens brightness and time to turn off to become adjustable as this is what must drain the battery so quickly.
Hopefully this will be available in the very hard to find firmware upgrade that is supposedly available.

Yes this phone is great!
The noise is from the on/off button, nothing wrong at the mechanical part.
The cam is quite good for a 2mp one!
For those who can't stop comparing this phone with N series and other:
Not to forget: THIS is a middle-class phone..the best offer of Nokia, regarding the quality vs. price.
If u want super pictures, get a digital cam!
If u want music, not on ur MP3 device, but on ur phone, get a Sony Ericsson W 800 !
Regarding the battery, if it's charged correctly..there is no problem with it..of course u shouldn't abuse on cam/playing music, etc. It's a phone with MP3, not vice-versa! This isn't a phone for bussiness people, for them there are the big smartphones, with 'bigger' batteries. ;+)
For 3G..there is N 91..and so I can go on and on,,, The important matter is people to realize the differences between the phones categories.

Is it true that this phone make videoclips at maximum resolution 176x220pxs??!?!?!
If it's true, I'm gonna think twice very seriously, if I'll buy it!!! That's a shame for the device!! Not even in QVGA (at 320x240pxs) if not in CIF (352x288)????
I'm disappointed with Nokia......

i dont know much about phones generally so need some help!
i'm getting a contract upgrade and have this phone (6300) available to me...however, i found the 6230i which I had until recently was an excellent phone, and fear that the 6300 will not be as good/have as good a battery - i found the 6230i battery was superb.
are my concenrs about the battery on the 6300 misplaced? which is the more advanced phone generally - i have had different accounts given to me? which should i go for...its business/personal,relatively heavy use on short calls?
Thanks

Well both 6233 and 6300 are great phones in their places. Both have advantages as well as a few disadvantages its totally upon ones choice which they would like to go i liked 6300 does not mean its the best phone but surely it's better than 6233 in most of it's features

And one more think: 6233: BP-6M 1100 Li-Po; 6300: BL-4C 860 Li-Ion(a very old battery).
