Utter Rubbish! ... To the guy who post on the new items in the upgrade of 6300.

Are you sure you are using the 6300? Or Nokia's phones? I do not think a mere upgrade can have so many new functions added. Don't lie to the users!! I know that Nokia are NEVER so generous.

        Don't Lie okay.

Ho! Goodness. What have they done to my 6300!!!

I recently when to upgrade my 6300 firmware and there seems to be some drastic changes.

          The following are new :-

          1) Memory Card Icon. I do not remember having mem card Icon in the main menu, but is is there now. They seems to be working well. Now, can just use the icon to access the mem card.

          2) I can use the small font size for contacts. Which I was not able to use before.

          3) A caller minute counter has been added to the call log. It "beep" every minute when I talk.

          4) A brightness and contrast control are added. I know it was not there in the older firmware.

          5) Power & Sleep mode now has Time out function.

It does sound strange but I won't think a single upgrade can add so many new functions to the phone. I think it is good to upgrade the firmware.

Does any one who upgraded have those new items added?

          Strange....but true.

            Dear Sea Monster,

Thank you for your Posting. I tried to use the way you mentioned to upgrade the firmware, but I can't do it. I do not know what I did wrong. It looks so simple but I think there must be the GPRS subsription.

I bought the phone 3 weeks ago, but the firmware is rather old.

The current firmware in my 6300 is as follows :-

            V4.20
            dated : 05-12-06

I contacted the Nokia in Singapore, they told me that there is a newer firmware for the 6300.

            V 5.70
            dated : Mar 09, 2007.

I also asked them if they can upgrade the firmware, if I bring my photo down to them..... They are very happy to do it for me..... I think the Nokia CS in Singapore are really friendly & helpful; without doubt I am really happy being a customer of Nokia. I think, with this experience, I will continue to buy NOKIA and will encourage users to change to Nokia.

Good Joe Nokia.... I love you all....Nokia all the way.

rain, can you be specific... sound quality of mp3 or voice? sound from the loudspeaker or the headphone?

if voice... no problem - it's good. the loudspeaker is very loud.

if music sound, from headset - superb! especially if you use a good 3.5mm adapter with a good headset. music from loudspeaker? well, it's OK, I guess. it's not bassy or nice to hear for a long time - but what do you expect? the speaker is less than 1cm :-P

To the guy who say there is UPGRADE software function in the PC Suite. Are you sure? Check before you post.

Here is the correct way to do it :-

Upgrade your Firmwire in 6300 you can do the following (but you need to be able to connect your 6300 to the internet and be able to download. ie:- must subscribe to GPRS).

From the "Setup" menu scroll to "Phone" ---> OK. Scroll till you find "Phone Updates" --> Select. You will find the following :- Current Software details, Download phone Software, Install software Updates.

Current Software details = is the current firmware in your 6300.
Download phone software = select this -> it will prompt you that the phone is connecting to the internet.

This is how I did it. I selected the "Download phone software". It automatically prompt to me that it is connecting to NOKIA'S server. (You need to have GPRS, otherwise it will not work). It takes about 35mins to download. After downloading is successful, the "Install Software Updates" will highlight. Select it and it will install the new version of the firmware [[NOTE: Remember to backup all your software in the phone...because once the new software are updated, you'll find your music, photos, themes, wallpaper, screensaver and stuff in you Memory Card missing]]. You can use the PC Suite to Backup your phone.

Reboot the phone and you should be using the new firmware.

If you do not subscribe to GPRS and want to upgrade your firmware, please contact NOKIA customer's centre, will be happy to upgrade the firmware for you, which does not take you more than 1 hr.

                Hope this helps.

Thank you and have a lovely and fun time using the 6300.

I just got this as a gift. It had a metal external body, and its very slim. Usual features along with AM/FM. No problem until now, but its been only a month since I started using it. Its a little feminine, but overall its a great buy.

I think the PC suite has the function to UPGRADE your software. But you need to provide a "number" behind the battery compartment (beside the SIM card holder).

But, I am not too sure if you can use Bluetooth, or USB cables. I think they use GPRS too.

Sratch resistance.....No I think it is water resistance.

Actually, no it is not scratch resistance, you can use any instrument (keys or other metallic items) to sratch on the screen, SS cover, keypads, any part of the phone and I am sure you will see scratches.

Moreover, I think no body will make sratch resistance phones because it will be too expensive. Just think, in order for items to be scratch resistance, it need to be tougher than most materials (ie :- diamonds, harden steels...etc).

I have version 04.70 (which has a release date of 24/1/07) in my 6300 and, whilst the battery is OK for my needs, I'd welcome the chance to improve the stand-by/talk-time that the new firmware is supposed to bring. Does anybody know which is the "new" firmware and how you can get it, as Nokia.co.uk doesn't yet have a support page for the 6300. Otherwise, a great phone. Got tired of waiting for the N95 and suddenly realised I didn't need all those features anyway!

I've had this phone for a while now and to be honest, after having Nokia and Sony Ericsson smart phones for the past 3 years, this phone is the best phone I've ever had! Honestly, it has decent battery, juts charge every 2-3 days. The camera is good for one in a phone, if you want amazing photos, get a bloomin SLR old school camera which will cost around £50-£100, no more.

The screen is amazing, the weight and the slim feeling. The battery doesn't really heat up when phoning, after all it is a heat conductor and it wouldn't be bad if it did.

All in all, it's an all rounder and I love the phone, smartphones are rediculouse and going too far, notice, they are getting bigger.

If you want a very good phone to suit all needs, this is the one, good for Nokia, their best phone yet!
