i love this phone so much. compare to other brands it has excellent camera and OS. i can download a lot of fun applications and games. the only thing that i dont like much is the stereo speaker is not good enough to play the ringtones.but it much better when i can play wav and mp3 as a ringtones. i also like the thumbnail features where i can put my favourite pic for caller id.

Review Mobile Handset Nokia 6630:
By: Enzo
Xtreme.enzo@gmail.com
After selling my Sony Ericsson W550i, I bought myself a Nokia 6630 which is called the "hummer" here in the Syrian market due to its durability and big size.
I don’t know what made my but it since it was a bit outdated and with some less features than W550i. I think that Nokia has a secret way to charm and attract users.
I didn’t really like some new Nokia solutions that the memory card is sold separately such as 6125, 6131 or some phones that feel loose in ones hand such as 6280 or N72.
Actually I love my new 6630! It has a large bright screen display, large keypad, external memory card slot, and not to mention the rather comfortable power and voice dialing side buttons.
The phone is really comfortable in your hand and you can feel how solid it is and how easy is to use the navigation, alphanumeric, and side keys.
I didn’t really like the idea of adding a light-sensor to this mobile phone and also the later models. It's located on the top above the Nokia logo. It turns off the keypad when surrounded by a well-lit area.
Nokia claims that this is for saving battery life, but I don’t think so because you can easily put your finger on top of the light-sensor and that will light the keypad again as if it was dark.
The right side button is a power button (long press) and also to switch between profiles (short press) and that is quite typical for all Nokia phones.
The left side button is used for voice dialing, voice commands, and to easily switch between handset and loudspeaker modes when a call is in progress.
One of the 6630 disadvantages is absence of side volume keys which may come in handy during a call.
Let's talk about the loudspeaker. I'm really impressed! The sound is loud and clear when using the speaker phone or when listening to an MP3 file. Of course you can't compare it with phones that have 2 speakers or 3D sound but it's quite perfect in this segment.
You will be also amazed when you use the headset included in the standard sales package and enjoying the power of MP3 or WAV files.
Let's now talk about the camera.
Nokia categorizes this mobile phone in the imaging segment. It has a 1.3 mega pixel camera with 12x of smooth digital zoom and also the ability to control brightness and contrast of photos (before taking them).
Night mode and sequence mode (burst) are also available.
The maximum image resolution is 1280*960 pixels. VGA quality (640*480 pixels) is also available.
I think that the image quality is good enough. The photos look really good on the phone and PC. They turn out a bit blurry when zooming (typical for digital zoom).
As for video, unlimited recording is available and that depends on the capacity on the memory card. The video resolutions are 176*144 or 128*96 pixels.
Night mode and muting/unmuting sound is also available during video recording.
I can say that the 6630 camera is good for people who just need a simple camera or like to shoot a few photos every once in a while or during special occasions.
But of course you can replace a digital camera with a cell phone camera.
The phones operating system is Symbian OS based on series-60 platform.
You won't find much differences if compared to other phones such as 6600, 7610, 6670, 6260…etc.
That means it's compatible with most of the SIS files.
One of the main software differences is the gallery. It no longer uses the filing mode. Sound clips, music tracks, images, web links, are separated into categories.
There is also an ''All Files" category that shows all files which are sorted only by date.
A great advantage or plus for this phone is the new range of added programs such as:
Movie maker, image prints, video editor, Adobe PDF, quick office, Kodak mobile sharing, catalogs, search, photo editor, lifeblog, and the best one of them is image manager which allows to edit images or view them in a full-screen slideshow.
Other stuff such as messaging, clock, web, calendar, wallet, to-do…etc. are typical for other series 60 phones. Bluetooth is also available but no infrared.
You can also install a Bluetooth wireless keyboard using keyboard application and also get operator settings automatically using settings wizard programs.
An interesting application is a voice commands which easily enables you to add voice commands to almost all phone applications.
The music player is quite good and the sound quality is great for a phone that uses one speaker. It supports MP3, AAC, WAV, AMR, and RM sound formats. The music player is a bit poor due to absence of an equalizer. You can also use any of the mentioned formats as a loud ringing-tone.
Video calls are also supported when a 3G network is available.
As a conclusion, I think that this phone is great for people who need a smart phone with a large display, large keypad, good camera, and comfortable side keys.

no it does not play mp4.. it only plays mp3(for audio) and 3gpp(for video). u have to convert mp4 to 3gpp format first or find a 3rd party appllication that will allow u to play mp4 on this phone.. unfortunately, i havent come across one yet.

to kimo himo and all those who feel there 6630 has become slow , remember never make a new folder in any of your gallery folder ie images, video clips, tracks, sound clips, this will drastically reduce the speed of your phone

6630's screen color is 65k only. not 262k
but you wouldnt really notice the difference and because 6630 has a lower color display, it makes the phone faster than 6680 because it has less task to process
and im using 1gb memory card. there is no difference. and im using 760mb already because of applications, mp3 and videos.
