700 is a great fon belle is an advanced os i use dis fon since 3 month nd a great experienc wid dis fon , no hanging problem,great display, super data catching speed 35-40 kbps on 2G , i fuly satisfied, video playing is exlent, smooth,silky playing. 10223 kbps video playing very fine play, samsung's video play qualitY is gud bt nokia's exlent.

Sell the phone - if it's new then you can get a good price for it - and get a cheap PrePay phone in the same brand as your last phone running on the same network as your contract - your SIM card will work in it and you can make calls with the credit on the PrePay SIM card so you won't have lost anything

You mentioned nothing about 'application blocking', and maybe this will come as a surprise to you but the policy of your country on such matters is not common knowledge (nor in most instances of much interest) to people living outside your frontiers

The posting I made described what you need to do to define a VoIP service on your phone within Symbian 'Belle' - the reference to Fring was just suggesting a suitable front-end for the service. If this corresponds in any way to how you originally set up VoIP on your N8 then I suggest you take the parts that are relevant from my post and then complete with whatever additional software or configurations you used on 'Anna'. Otherwise I suspect you have supplied too little information for anybody to be able to help you much further

I took out a phone contract and was given a nokia 700.I am not saying it is better or worse than any other phone but people seem to forget its' prime function should be to make telephone calls, and texting. I soon realised that I needed a degree to be able to do this,it then dawned on me that I have a degree!, and it was still a pain in the neck.
Why do I need the BBCi player? why do I need CNN, for goodness sake why do I need a map. The only time I don't know where I am and would like to is when I'm flying, and I'm not allowed to use the thing on a plane.
Touch screen phones may look good but in terms of practicality are not dissimilar to the LED watch form 35 years ago. A phone is a phone is a phone and it should be made in a way that making telephone calls/texting is its' primary function.

701 has longer battery life than 700 and also has the FM Transmitter which the 700 lacks. Screen on 701 is physically bigger than 700 but both have same resolution. 700 screen is AMOLED whereas 701 is TFT so it is possible that 700 is better in this respect (certainly Nokia 700 screen is nicer than Nokia C7 in terms of colours and sharpness). CPU and OS are the same on both phones and 8GB internal memory of 701 vs 2GB of 700 is easy to compensate for with SD card

I guess it comes down to:
- whether you have sharp enough eyes for the smaller 700 screen and nimble enough fingers for the correspondingly smaller screen keypad
- whether you need a smaller phone like the 700 to fit in your pocket or whether you can trade the larger size of the 701 for the better battery life

I never understand why people say small phones are for ladies - I have the 700 to fit in my trouser pocket (don't all men have this constraint?) whereas my GF has the larger C7 (almost identical case and features to 701 but slower processor and 'Anna' OS) which fits nicely in her Handbag. Each phone suits each of our corresponding needs better and neither of us would swap for the other's phone

My new phone fell down once, the glass broke. The cost of the repairing is nearly the same as a new phone, because you have to buy the LCD panel too.I wouldn't buy it again.

Is there any kind of battery defender in ovi store? I think I could buy this one but the 3G using times worry me. Only about 4 hours of 3G talk time in the specs.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2011Had one for a week now - choice came down to this or Sony E... moreOK, one month into the usage of my Nokia 700 and my feelings about the phone are mixed, generally worse than when I first got the phone:

PRO:

Well-built. External condition is still almost-new with very few marks on it. I have discovered Gorilla Glass will scratch :-( but only when really provoked. I have the feeling that with some care the phone will still be looking almost new in 12 months time

Display. I took it to Southern Spain on a short holiday and the display was still clearly visible on minimum brightness setting with a hard, strong sun high in the clear sky at midday - impressive!

Maps/GPS. GPS Works well and navigation software is very good... once you've *finally* loaded the maps (see 'Con' section)

Physical 'Accept' and 'Reject' keys. I'm still really happy to have these and they work well. Why don't Android, iPhone or Windows phones have these?

Wi-Fi seems to have good reception and works well


MIDDLING:

Battery. If you do anything serious it will give you one day comfortably, but no more (even with brightness turned right down and other 'power-saving' configuration choices). Maybe if you only make a few 2G calls you might just be able to squeeze two days out of it but really this phone needs a re-charge every night. Disappointing, and it should have been given a bigger battery

Processor. Kind of a mixed bag. It responds quickly initially *but* then it takes its time about doing things. Sounds counter intuitive, however the animations start quickly but they take a few seconds to run before you can actually do whatever it was you wanted. Scrolling stutters occasionally. Generally the processor seems adequate but not a speed demon in any respect

Playback Sound quality. I find MP3 sound quality with my Sennheiser CX300II phones to be disappointing. Not exaclty 'bad' but sibillant and 'nasally' and not a comfortable experience to listen to. Playback through loudspeaker is also rather 'edgy'. Other phones I have had sound better IMHO

Camera. In spite of my early quarms, outdoor pictures in good light are not at all bad. However indoor photos in low light are pretty awful, and fixed-focus lens does not allow close enough focus to capture documents/text :-(. Movies work pretty well and play-back nicely on the phone

Reception. A bit dodgy. Forget the iPhone problems - Putting your fingers around the top of the Nokia 700 will cause reception to drop by two bars, and often it does not come back once you remove the fingers. Do it a second time and initially good reception can actually drop-out!



CON:

Map download times. It took me 8 hours of the phone permanently connected to my computer running the *horrible* OVI suite to download the 200MB of data for the maps of Spain. No Joke. Absurd! There are something like 2.5GB of data for Europe and over 5GB for the whole world... one week of permanently-fitted download time to perform a complete map download? I'm not the only one to experience this problem - lots of similar complaints in forums and on the Nokia Support Boards. I think Nokia are offerring 'free' maps as a marketing ploy, but deliberately making it near-impossible to download them

Horrible SIP VoIP Configuration Experience - see my previous post explaining the hoops you have to jump through to configure SIP and then install Fring to use it (Nokia SIP interface looks pretty but does not work)

Messaging is nasty on this phone. I was expecting the small keyboard, but as I'm a musician with small fingers I'm one of the lucky ones who has no real problems hitting the tiny keys. What I was not expecting, however, was how horrible the interface was in other respects... the auto-correct doesn't give a choice of words but rather makes a (usually stupid) suggestion which is put by default with your actual typed text appearing as a *really tiny* box above the 'suggestion' and which it is almost impossible to hit. Navigating around the text is unpleasant and for some reason you have to keep changing keyboards whenever you want a number or a symbol... haven't Nokia heard of holding a key to generate the associated symbol? Basically I think Nokia don't want these phones to compete with their 'Blackberry' type E72/E6 messaging phones so deliberately hobble this functionality on the Belle phones

Nasty Ergonomics in some places. As already mentioned by another user, pressing a number on your call log will automatically dial that number with no confirmation box first - can be embarassing. Also no 'cancellation' options in many edit dialogs: touch the wrong area or start editing a value and you've *got* to finish what you started... no way to say 'cancel' and go back to the previous value!

Not really enough phone memory - or perhaps my Orange Branded phone had its memory eaten away by Orange 'bloatware'

Bugs. Oh lordy... try to setup MS Exchange Active Sync and watch all your contacts vanish never to be recovered (Grrr!). Nokia messaging service which basically doesn't work. Setup two Email 'always-on' IMAPI accounts and see the phone become unstable. Random freezes requiring battery removal to reboot (memory?). Malfunctioning noise cancellation making either incoming or outgoing calls unintelligable in one direction only which can be very confusing for the other party. Yes, all the old favourites are there with a few new ones added to keep us entertained!

OVI Suite. Possibly the worst windows software I've ever used, and sadly this needs to be on your computer if you have a Nokia symbian phone

SAR Rating. Really high...



CONCLUSION:
I wonder if I should have got the Xperia Ray instead... probably not but I still wonder about it. Hopefully there will updates soon (February?) to fix some of the more annoying firmware problems and give us some better 'standard' wigets. The trouble is, however, that Nokia are still a bit half-hearted about Belle with too many things seemingly deliberately held back. Marketing pressures? Saboutage from other internal teams wanting to kill off Symbian so Windows or Meego can get all the glory? Who knows but unless Nokia deal with this and get fully serious about their products I think this will be the last generation device I buy from them

How to configure VoIP on Nokia 700

1. Download and install NOKIA Symbian^3 SIP VoIP Settings from here:

2. Configure 'Internet Call Settings' and 'SIP' settings for your VoIP provider here (specific settings will depend on provider):
Settings->Connectivity->Admin Settings...

3. Install 'Fring' (Native Belle SIP interface doesn't work) from www.fring.com and then follow the instructions here *exactly* (except there is no need to hack your phone: X-plore can be downloaded from Nokia/OVI Store and works fine on unhacked phone for removing the problem system files):

4. Use Fring to make SIP calls, but exit from Fring when you've finished in the way explained in above link otherwise Fring will lock and never restart


All-in-all much too much pointless trouble. I'm sure a new version of a Belle-compatible Fring will be along sometime which will make life a bit simpler, but why Nokia make it harder to configure and use SIP for VoIP with every new phone is an inexplicable mystery (it was easy on my E51, now it is impossible on my E52 as the developer settings will not install under latest firmware and you can see above how horrible the Nokia 700 SIP workaround is). I think there is probably too much internal politics within Nokia with private agenda's and inter-team rivalries working against the interests of their customers. I will probably look to non-Nokia alternatives for my next phone
