hey i bought this new nokia 7710 and its gr8. the only thing wrong abt it is that we can't set the tones like mp3 or wav which r saved in the mc as ringtone. and even though 6 months have passed since its release there aren't much softwares or themes in particular to download for it. the other sad part is that i had a k700 before and i had a theme editor for it which was very simple but the theme editor for the nokia 7710 is very complicated. i didn't have any idea untill i read the whole read me file. so if anybody have a different or new theme please mail it to me. my id is neoinme@yahoo.com

ATTENTION to Nokia 7710 owners.
I have been getting e-mails, asking how to upgrade the firmware, not like im getting tired of it; im glad I can help, but YOU CAN NOT UPGRADE the firmware yourself, there are tactics and different methods on how to, but the best thing to do is go to your nearest Nokia Care Center. And Im sorry for the people located in the United States(like me), no current support for this phone is available, contact me if you live in the US and you want to upgrade.
But the best thing to do is go to your nearest Nokia Care Center. Bring your warranty card/proof of purchase or reciept, if you don't have one of these, Nokia will run your IMEI in the Nokia Server, and check out if you are backed by the 12-month warranty.
Current version is 4.01
This has no major difference but the data in the phone was just altered and compressed to run more effeciently, and the firmware unlocks 1.3MP.
contact me for further details.
Thank You.

Hey Amit,
As I rightly guessed, the whole options work and I have now connected my 7710 to my PC !!!
All you need to do right away is to download the latest version of PC Suite from the Nokia site.
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,72026,00.html
It works !!!! I am glad...and I am sure it wil make you happy as well :)
Cheers

amit,
I am sure it is not the OS, so dont waste time in re installing the OS
It is all due to the PC suite. It needs to have the "USB" option under the "connection type" tab. Current version 6.4.x shows only the serail ports (com1,2,3 etc) under connection tab, which seems to be exactly the reason for what we have been seeing.
I am downloading the latest version (6.6) of PC Suite from Nokia site,I shall install it and then let you guys know of the result.
I am hopeful it would help.
Meanwhile lets see if WK or any of the others help us
Cheers

Hey Sid & Arun
Even I have the same problem as you guys do! Well, I bought a new PC a couple of days ago. Win XP Professional SP2.Intel Chipset. I get an error message "no supported phone selected" even though the PC recognizes N7710 & gives a message “found new hardware” as soon as the N7710-USB cable is connected to the PC. And it would give you the hardware installation wizard & ask you to install the s/w. Even though you follow the procedure to do the same it will repeatedly ask you to do the same in a loop. I’ve re-installed the PC Suite s/w, re-installed USB drivers, tried to upgrade the drivers without any joy because it’ the latest one. I’ve just re-installed my Win XP without any joy in sheer desperation. This is really becoming very interesting. I’m still struggling to find a solution . It was working fine with my old PC. I cannot do any R & D because I’ve already sold the same. I’m really concerned about it because I don’t get time for all these in weekdays. I shall be grateful to anyone of you guys if you have a resolution for this problem. My expectation is very high on “witchking“& “castillo_corp”. My e-mail ID: amitkumardey@gmail.com
Thanking you!
Cheers…Amit

Hi Sid,
Yeah the Firmware is 4.01.
I purchased it on 5th Aug
If you contact the Nokia local service centre, I am sure they would be able to upgrade it for you.
As of now other things are fine except for the data transfer between the PC and phone
I am hoping that Witchking gives me (and you) a solution for that...

A very slow phone. Hangs up every now then to software load and slow processor. Restarts only when the battery is taken out and placed back. Sometimes it restarts on its own when you middle of doing some thing (it did once a few moments ago and i had rewrite the review from scrach). Camera is very slow gives good results in day only. Excel sheet application: I have noticed that some complex formulas give results so its unreliable. Web browser: Small fonts are difficult to read. Being a new phone there arnt many applications available. Overall the phone is disappointing.

Hi WK (my best pal on this site) and other friends !!
At last I have owned a 7710 now.
I have been doing all sorts of jugglery on the phone. One thing thats not letting me proceed is the Nokia PC suite software. It doesnt 'see' the phone at all.It says "no supported phone selected"
However, the PC has recognized the N7710 and I installed the necessary USB cable driver too,
But on the connection manager - connection settings, i dont get the option to choose USB at all However I chose the COM4 for the phone, but it still doesnt recognize.
Please can you help me resolve the issue?
the phone's firmware is 4.01 and the PC Suite is 6.4.8
Please help
Arun

The Phone is very big to be used as a normal phone for making or recieving calls. The best thing is that it comes with a free headset but still i prefer a Bluetooth headset.Camera is disgustingly slow. But still takes quality pictures in day light.the PDA funtion is very good. Although there are not many applications available right now. Few of these are available on www.my-symbian.com
It comes with a free leather case but in the case protection the phone becomes more bulkier so i prefer i without it but then scrathes could be a major issue which could be resolved by a good quality screen protector. So far average.
But as you go to its AMAZING MUSIC PLAYER you become its slave. It has very good sound quality. The songs could be browsed easily but they hang if you upload many songs in one folder so i suggest to have organised your sound files.
Images and wallpapers are good enough to buy this phone. The resolution is great. The biggest ever in any mobile phone.
At the end of the Day if you are buying this phone only for basic funtion i:e making or receving calls or smsing then this one is not for you. But if you are a technocrat and could do pay anything for a great Gadzet then go ahead this one is for you and could satisfy you for your entertaintment urges.
The Browsing feature which could open any site even one of those which an internet explorer of older version can not. It has an inbuil opera browser and also a Flash 6 player.

The major problems, occured before, at the first stage of the firmware, but now the newest firmware elliminates known problems. Firmware upgrades are available at your nearest Nokia Care Center.

Motorola A780, E680i, Sony Ericsson P910i, and Nokia 7710, has many features but the most you should look at is, Motorola E680i, and Nokia 7710.
The A780...well, that's just garbage, and the P910i, is expensive for an outdated phone.
Motorola has Linux, and the newest C5 firmware, which allows the phone to read .txt files via Virtual Recognition and make your phone talk, Motorola E680i actually has a faster processor than a Nokia 7710 at about 303MHz. In other hand, the Nokia 7710, takes MultiMedia Portability on top. Featuring a 1.3MP(Recent Firmware) and EDGE. Processor at about 145-150MHz.
I have both phones, and you can't get enough out of the two. For more info, contact me.

EDGE, is another feature, it activates automatically, when coverage is near, you don't necessarily need 3G, becuase other features about this phone, evens it out.
