TO "Plzz Help"
Even I live in B'lore.I've purchased my N7710 just about a couple of weeks ago.You actually get the latest version of firmware installed by default when you buy a new N7710.In fact the firmware updation date I've got in my N7710 is 23-05-05.But I would suggest to you to confirm the same when you buy your N7710 with your Nokia Dealer.
Take care

I was referring to it not being possible with the 7710, not all phones, but thanks.

It is possible - but not sure with 7710. Earlier had Sony Ericsson P800 and opera browser for that used to automatically detect the PC connection if available and I was able to browse thru bluetooth! no GPRS was needed!!!!
So may be one fine day opera comes out with solution for 7710

You cannot currently use your PC's Internet connection to browse using your phone. Not really sure why people would want to, but there is "supposed" to be moves underway to enable this to be possible. Apparently it will connect to the PC via bluetooth. BUT this software does not exist yet. It may remain vapourware.
Web surfing wise, its about the best 2G phone there is for it. It has EDGE support so is faster than most and the larger and clear screen makes it actually enjoyable to do, as does the touch screen. I still prefer surfing on my PC though as its broadband with a 20" TFT screen :)

No current updates from this phone is supported in the US, however, there are ways to, i.e. send it to one of the major Nokia Care Center in the Eastern Region, or send it to relatives from other countries, and have them do it.

A firmware is the electronic heart of a receiver(in this case Nokia 7710), where coded instructions relating to receiver function, and sometimes data processing algorithms, are embedded as integral portions of the internal circuitry.
Example:
Firmware=Television
OS(Operating Software)=Remote
You tell the T.V. to change channels by using the remote.
The firmware upgrades are new datas that improves efficient running of the phone.
WK, you got work and still manage to help, I just replied your e-mail.

Hi
You're in luck as I also live in Bristol (also recently, but not such a long journey). The nearest Nokia Care Centre in Bristol are:
Carphone Warehouse
Unit 20 Lower Level,
Cribbs Causeway
Bristol,
Somerset
BS34 5GF
08707204172
Carphone Warehouse
2a New Broadmead,
Union Street
Bristol,
Avon

0117 927 3892
Westcom
7 The Mall,
Clifton
Bristol,
Avon
BS8 4DP
0117 946 7441
Ring one of them up and confirm they have the firmware and can upgrade it.

Shailesh, the 7710 does have an FM radio, which works very well. It also incorporates virtual radio, but I dont use that. Having had the 6600 myself just before this phone, I can strongly recommend the 7710. Everything about it is better than the 6600, including - in my case - stability and speed.
Moudi, you can d/l the latest firmware from the internet, but you have to pay and then you have to get an eeprom blower, the correct cable and software (these are expensive). You then need the skill to do it. Basically, you CANNOT update the 7710 firmware yourself. It has to be taken into a Nokia Service Centre. I do not know if the firware differs / country. I assume the language probably does.
You can connect the 7710 to the Apple Mac (much to my surprise). Here is how http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36750
On the 7710, you get a cut down version of Office. You get Document (reads and writes to Word files), Sheet (reads and writes to Excel) and Presentations (reads Powerpoint). The applications do not have full functionality (indeed Document cant do much more than Write) and they are slow to initially convert files from Office into their format. Once you have the files converted though and open, they are fast enough to use.As an example, I just opened a 630kb Word file and it took 15 seconds to open and after that I could fully scroll up and down it with no problems. It did a full word count in < 1 sec and came back with 104556 words. I cant check any further as I'm at another location and this pc wont instal PC Suite. I do use the 7710 as a work tool and spent an hour on the train "typing" information into Document. As soon as I get to a PC I can sync with, I'll transfer the document and tidy it up. It is NOT a fully working Office suite by any stretch of the imagination though!
Ringtones: Place the files in the same location as the existing phone's ring tones (on the Device, not the memory card) and it will pick them up straight away.
You can open a .doc attachment and view it with the phone. However, I beleive it will convert it to .ewd format. This can take a minute or two if the document is very big or can be transparent if small. I think the report you read was correct. I know of no viewer on the 7710 that does not convert a .doc file when reading it. Same goes for the .xls files. My 40 page 1.5 mb file took a couple of minutes to convert and then it opened and edited really well. I do have speed issues with the .pdf viewer and mobireader when trying to go back and forth too far on them. Oh and slovoed is slow too (but it is huge).
ANything else people need to know, just ask. I am very busy at work, but will try and aid.

NGN, yes you can its the SU 8 (or something like that, I cant recall the exact name). Its a bluetooth keyboard for which the driver is available on the nokia site under the 7710 software section. Expansys are selling a keyboards for the 7710 for about £70.

I heard that you can use a real keyboard for 7710, besides the software one. Is this true, because there is nothing saying about this on nokia.com?

Hi, sorry have been and am busy. The 910i is not as good as the 7710 (imho), depends what you want it for though. I'll reply to the others and do the Word tests once I have my work out the way (about 6 hours from now I think).
