It has good features but is very slow. The screen is prone to damages. Too bulky, would be great if someone designs a good bluetooth.

                Witchking, thanks !

My concern is that if I got an email with DOC attachment, possible to view it in 7710 ?
I read review that the 7710 took over several tenth seconds to few minutes to open the DOC file (for converting to EWD first).
Is there any reader that can open a DOC (say 500k in size) without converting ? I don need editing, but dont want to wait over several minuts to open a DOC....

How's your 40 page document , is it DOC or EWD ? how long to open it ?

                  Witchking, thanks for the test.
Something I'm concerning is that if I fetch an email, with a .DOC and/or .XLS attachment. Is it possible to open it in the phone ? Or again, I need to xfer it to PC and then back to get the .exx format.....

And, how long does it take to open your 40 pages DOC ?

                  Thanks,

I had my phone upgraded with the new firmware 2 day ago and i cant stop smiling.
THE SOFTWARE ROCKS.the pics taken with the camera are even more sharp.the speed is much high and there is no more hangs ups. iF u have a chance upgrade it.
i just want to ask one question which i cant mannage by myself-every time when i make phone call the volume ot the speaker is on default(about half of the max volume) and i have to rejust it every time during phone call.is there any way to make it as loud as possible for good.
BTW the option that stops the music player when call is received and start again when u finish the call is gr8.

Apologies for the double post (I reloaded an old page). Admin, please delete it.

James: I have copied .doc and .xls files using the PC sync cable and pc suite. You can copy one to the other easily enough this way. Documents are stored on the phone as .ewd files and excel as .sht. They are converted back and forth by the phone and PC suite. I am not aware of any limitation in size (I assume the phone memory would be the limit so assume 10mb + would be unwieldy and may cause problems. I've used a 1.7mb 40 page document on my phone with no problems. If you want me to test others I will do happily enough.

                          Sid:
Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition Second Edition supports landscape screen orientation, but to access it Microsoft requires no less than six screen taps from the Today screen (seven if you need to scroll down the Settings options to get to Screen settings, as you do on this small-screened device). A further six (or seven) taps are required to get back to portrait orientation. On the i-mate JAM, all you need to do is tap an icon on the Today screen and the screen reorients, cycling through portrait, left-handed landscape, and right-handed landscape orientations.

Hope that helps. I dont know as much about the Jam as the 7710, as my lass wont let me fiddle too much (she's seen me messing with the PC! )

                            Hi,

Just want to know, can I open a .DOC , .DOT and .XLS file with 7710 without conversion ?
That's I manually copy it to the MMC card with a card reader, put it back to phone. And try to open it.

Or it can only open the DOC/DOT/XLS that sync from PC to phone ?

And, how about the supported size, any limitation on the DOC file ? XLS files ?

                            Thanks,

Oh and the i-mate Jam is functionally identical to Qtek S100, O2 XDA II mini and T-Mobile MDA Compact. It is made by HTC (they call it the Magician) and all the various phone companies just rebadge it, add some custome apps, different levels of firmware and in some cases more memory. I know I was confused initially when I was trying to figure them out! :o)

Looks like i-mate JAM is similar to XDAII mini. I dont own 7710 or the JAM but i've tried both.
the XDAII mini (or JAM) freezes a lot and turning it off is annoyoing. thats just what ive noticed. havent plyed with it enough so i cant say much =)

my frend ha 7710 and he likes it a lot. i liked it too and what amazes me is the 90MB internal memory capaciy and the included 128MB MMC capacity. i think owning 7710 wont bother me buying an expansion memory anymore because that seems enough for me.

A lot of Nokias are made in China so I heard on another site.

Ref the 7710 and iMate Jam, I have the 7710 (obviously) and my fiancee has just bought the Jam, so I know a bit about both.

Jam has more software available, is lighter smaller, probably more robust and stable. The main reason she got it rather than mine is the stability and the improved Office compatibilty. She needs something more reliable.

Downside is the camera is very, very poor (worse than my old 3650), the screen is smaller (but has the same pixel count as the HTC Blue Angel, so is sharp), it has no radio, has limited available memory (57mb) so you can run out of it (it takes a 2gb mmc card though for apps), yellow tint to the screen (as do some 7710s) and its not as easy to use as the 7710.

All that said, if you dont need the big screen and the radio of the 7710 (web surfing and reading is far better on the nokia and I read a lot on it as I use it as a travelling book and d/l free pooks from Gutenburg), then get the Jam. It is more reliable and has more apps and is smaller. The Jam is supposed to have poor audio quality and its bluetooth stack is intermittent (so it loses the headset etc) and also it has no voice dialing I believe. Oh, it also has no wi-fi (but then the 7710 doesnt either).

If I had to choose, it would be a tough one, but I would go for the 7710 just, and that would be for the bigger screen and far better camera (one of the best on any phone). If I needed reliability more and less of a gimick phone and more apps, I'd get the HTC Magician. Indeed, my next phone may well be a HTC.

                                      Hope that helps.

Almost every phone to be sold in Europe is made in Finland or in Germany. I quess you're not from Europe?
