Thanks for the firmware update. My phone has a key that is dying, so as soon as I'm sure vodaphone has 4.01, then I'll get it replaced.
Oh and people asking for cracked versions of software, I would not recommend doing that here. I am happy to send links to my-symbian and themes and such like, but dont ask for pirate software on an open site and then post your e-mail address or you risk getting nailed.
Have never tried wifi on this phone and I'm not sure it suppports it, but if I find out I'll let you know. Sorry.

Oh, by the way, by upgrading the firmware to 4* this will also unlock 1.3mp on the camera, the phone was built with 1.3MP hardware, but the previous firmwares was not able to support 1.3 but only 1mp, the newest firmware gives an addition camera tool, that enhances the 1.3MP, no significant difference but, 1.3 is better than just regular 1MP.

I also have the newest firmware set to 4*, the only major difference is, a profile shortcut is added to the toolbar, and OS faster by 12%.
I currently have two, the original color Nokia 7710, and my, what I call Nokia E7710(black)
the black one has the newest firmware, and has the MobileTV pre-installed, although the other one doesnt.
If you guys want live pictures of these two phones of mine, just email me. and ill be more than happy to help with questions too.

By the way for those interested, the new firmware also corrects and enhances quite a bit of changes in the software and interface. A lot more functionality that you would appreciate moving from original firmware to the current one. It is definitely worth the upgrade!

I just got my n7710 flashed to firmware version 4.01.0. Excellent upgrade!! The phone is quite a bit faster now. No hangs. I have over 700 contacts in it and the search for a contact is very tolerable. Sending SMS, MMS, email is a breeze. Of course the quality of multimedia is still one of the best i have heard. I just wish i could use stereo bluetooth headset for it. Maybe Nokia will include the bluetooth A2DP profile soon. The screen is amazing. Better than those phones advertised with 262k colors like the P910i (which i owned and decided to sell and use the N7710). For those who want to send text messages while driving (i don't know why you want to take that risk) this phone is not for you. Otherwise at this stage and with the newest firmware, imho, this is the best phone out there. I just hope Nokia will change their mind and start fully supporting it. And all other 3rd party vendors too. Of course, with all the built-in apps, plus skyforce and superminers, it will take me quite a while before i go looking for additional software. GREAT PHONE!!! Go get one!

Sahil, I cant find anyway to get the mail application to automatically save messages to the memory card. It seems it saves messages to c:\system\mail. All I can suggest is regular backups to your pc or your memory card using PC Suite or Powerfile respectively. I'd recommend installing nothing to the device and only using it for what you have to. Sorry, but maybe someone knows a way.

Sal, the 7710 is slow in comparison to a lot of non-smart phones or some high end smart phones with small displays. The reason for this is that it has the largest display of any phone and therefore has a lot more pixels to update and it only has a 150mhz processor. I guess the multi-tasking software doen't work too well either as it doens't close down all the programs properly and thus eats memory).
All that said, I think its as fast if not faster than my 6600 and as fast as any phone I've had. Only thing slow is when I open a directory with lots of photos and I want to view thumbnails. So, no, its not slow really, its all comparative.

MP3 ringtones: you just move the mp3 track into the same folder as all the other ringtones and then amend your profile and it will be there. Its a doddle.
PS, Gregg's post was asking about the 7710 and how it handles e-mail.

Greg, the 7710 has "push e-mail" like the Blackberry, but you have to subscribe to use it. Its called Always-on mail and you get a 60 day trial with the phone. It seems simple enough to use, but as my vodaphone subscription is of "uncertain" data size (basically I dont have a clue how long I can connect to the net for before I'm billed), I haven't used it for more than a few minutes. So anyway, it works and its easy, not sure about the cost. You also have "ye olde fashioned" method of just connecting as and when you want to download them (as I used to on my 6600). As far as the phones you are comparing with, I looked at the A1000 and discounted it quite early on as being no where near as good. Not sure why now though. I can look into it if you want to remind myself. What do you want the phone to do.
Hugo, thanks for that. I'm a Nokia fan myself, so was prefering the 9500 (and we have chargers etc aplenty). Besides, if she doesn't like it, I'll swipe it and get her something like a 6630 :o)
Mohit, you're welcome. I was quite chuffed myself when I was led to it.

How does it handle email? Anyone try forwarding email to it? I currently am using a Blackberry device and a Moto V300. Blackberry for email and internet, Moto for phone and camera. I need to downsize to one unit. My debate is over this phone, Moto A768i, and Moto A1000. Any recommendations?
Thanks.
