To make it all clear to people having doubts an regrets about this phone, is THE WAY people use it. This phone don't need to be "THAT" fast, because its already preloaded with basic MultiMedia needs. I understand why this phone should be fast, if you use this as an everyday PDA use. This phone like said before on previous comments, depends on how you use it, the only reason, it gets that upsettingly slow is the programs that which been installed, from sites that aren't manufacturely released.

I understand why people with regrets feel this way, this phone would be unbelievable if there was a processing hardware not a software, combined would be also helpful. Then it would make the phone process more like a Motorola E680/E680i
I currently have both mobile phones(Nokia 7710 & Motorola E680) my Nokia is, I admit slow, but gets my work done*, on the other hand my Motorola is unbelievable and never crashed yet or reboot by itself.

In Conclusion, this phone is slow, but don't try to put in more applications that would make it wore unstablelized.

There is a great improvement if the phone's firmware is updated, from 3.03 to 3.26 no more crashes and lags occasionally. But it is advisable to go to a Nokia Center to do a Flash, and not to do it yourself from getting the software online.

So basically the phone just really need a faster processor, and thats it. It requires more than fast processes, but if Nokia can start by updating thoughts into what people actually want then that would be a start.

Recommended to People?
YES, RECCOMENDED FOR PEOPLE WHICH WOULD USE THIS PHONE AS A MULTIMEDIA PHONE.

NOT RECCOMENDED FOR BUSINESS TYPES.

I had really high expectations from this phone, but after 3 months of using it, i think its letting me down. The widescreen is an easily scratchable surface that really irritates me! And its also a dust magnet too! the software is also slow, so slow that it takes 4 secs to open the messages menu! I have a 50% regret of buying this phone, I think i shud have bought the 9500 or another s60 smart phone coz there arent alot of apps for s90! Another disapointment is that docs, and sheets made or edited on the phone can not be compatible with MS Word, Excel, or Powerpoint anymore! A very big dissapointment!!

My 50% satisfaction comes from the superb MP3 player and radio. The megapixel excels in bright light and sucks big time at night, bcoz theres no night mode!

Nightcrawler, I've converted the Doom 3 demo that is going around the internet and put it on my phone. At full screen, it looks as good as the original with no choppiness. From what I have read, due to the size of the screen, you will notice lack of details due to the compression ratios used which becomes more obvious the larger the screen is. I have yet to do a "proper" film, but even if I did, I have no way of checking frame rate for you.

The 7710 can read (and create) Word and Excel files. It can also read (only) Powerpoint files. It can read any files from Office 97 and upwards.

Note complex macros and formating will not be correctly displayed / handled by the 7710 and its authoring capabilities are not huge (i.e you cant create a complex Word or Excel file).

about the latest 7710 firmware . it is version 3.0 . It has to flashed on the phone memory , so not possible to download from net and manually install it. requires a flasher and some other jazz . in india the version is available only in the level 3 nokia care centres. caution : leave it to nokia , firmware insatallation is specialized stuff and done by professionals only.

No it is not true. The manual actually suggests using your finger nail to dial.

I know someone who has drop a 15lb weight on the screen and it worked afterwards (though I think he was lucky myself). Basically, you must avoid anything that is sharp and will scratch it.
