Many say that replacing the battery should fix the restarting issue. Nope, I have replaced the battery, TWICE, with the original ones. Still got the restarting issue.

The battery life on the Nokia 8 had fallen substantially at just over the 2 year mark. Yes the phone has been used probably double during 2020 compared with 2019, but I started off with 10 hours of WiFi, which I didn't expect to last and it fell and stabilised around 8 hours and now it's around 5.5 hours. Half the battery life in 2 years feels like a lot. Maybe the quality of the battery isn't as high as others.

The Battery: the most annoying issue of all. HMD lost a lot of customers due to this. Specially because their service centers couldn't figure what's wrong with the devices. See, still some people are saying their customer service centres experimenting by replacing motherboards, displays. IDK why couldn't they figure it out. I was a simple matter of Li-ion degration and hence being unable to supply the above par voltage requirement to the motherboard to keep things going. Yes, all Li-ion batteries degrade over time, but none of my previous smartphones have experienced this much rapid level of degration. Must've been the quality of the batteries.
So as you can see, the Nokia 8 is like a forgotten princess. It could've been much better. Me personally, I found ways around these problems. But I still feel sad for all those who didn't have enough knowledge or experience around these sorts of problems and specially the ones who had to spend more money in vein by replacing motherboards and other parts.
HMD should have done much better. They probably could've helped their customers with a discounted battery replacement program like Apple did a couple of years ago and probably (just may be) gave their tired / let down users an extra major OS update as a compensation.
Anyways this concludes it. Even though I've already moved long away from HMDs Nokia, I wish all the best for Nokia's R&D sector to make some dramatic improvements on their devices. I'd still love to see Nokia becoming a solid brand.

My first smartphone was a Nokia C7-00. It was a damn good device. Beautiful product, made me fall love with Nokia brand. (I was a student, it was a gift from my mom). So after HMD global came up with Nokia 8, the fan boy part of me wanted to buy this, specially considering the 400$ deal I got. It was a very fine deal for 400$ back when I bought this. It was flagship at a quite reasonable price with the NOKIA name.
The only downside for me was the display aspect ratio. I wanted this to be a 18:9 display. Still I loved the device, thought Nokia's back in the game. Even though it didn't look revolutionary, this was a beautiful phone for me. Everything was fine except for the camera.
The CAMERA software was half-baked. On paper, the camera hardware looked really solid for a flagship. It even has laser auto focus. Yet the camera has a hard time focusing. HMD immediately issued a statement saying they're working on improving the Nokia 8s camera. Anyways we found a temporary solution: the GCam. Gcam helped a lot. It kept my device going.
HMD global failed to keep up to their word. They failed to improve the camera. The fix for the camera never arrived. It was alright, we had GCam.
Then the other devices had face unlock. Juho Sarvikas (if I remember the name correctly) tweeted that they're working on a face unlock algorithm for their existing Nokia devices, and that update ladies and gentlemen, again, NEVER ARRIVED.
Then it got more ugly, we got SCREEN GHOSTING. Nokia 8 devices, started having screen retention. This issue tends to occur in LCD panels. Okay then I again found a temporary fix. I had turned on blue light filter at minimum intensity and noticed the retention problem is almost gone.
Okay we kept moving on...
Then again, one more hardware issue. The BATTERY

Muhammaddr, 10 Sep 2020Terrible customer service. I don't want to say but des... moreHaha omg your region's Customer Service should better hire some kindergarten kids to play around with devices. They're going to fix the problem only after replacing everything else!
I kept making comments about Nokia 8 battery situation since last year i guess, but people doesn't seem to notice.
Guys for goodness sake, REPLACE THE friggin BATTERY if your device starts restarting randomly.
HMD global has somehow used unacceptably low quality Li-ion batteries in most Nokia 8s.
Mine was fine for about 1.5 years, but eventually it degraded and started restarting. But since I had already moved on to a different device as my daily driver, I didn't see any point of spending more money on this, hence I did not replace the battery.
Now this phone is always plugged in to the charge to avoid restarting. It won't restart because it's using the charger as the main power source.
Just REPLACE your BATTERY if you want to fix the restarting problem. DON'T listen to any customer care agent suggesting to replace anything else. TRUST ME, it works.

Sopoto, 25 Aug 2020Unfortunately hapiness lasted few days. Again the same problemMost probably that is caused by one of the background applications. Try starting the phone in safe mode. if problem doesn't occur then, then it certainly one of the applications you installed just prior the problems started.

disappointed fan, 01 Nov 2020Really good hardware, but software support is pretty bad. o... moreMany of HMD Global's Nokia phones have Depth API support including Nokia 8 (if it only has Android 8 or newer). I have Nokia 8, and had it since 2017 and Depth API works in my device. Here's the proof:
https://developers.google.com/ar/develop/java/depth/overview
Just check the link from the page ARCore supported devices!
There are 10 devices starting from the very first HMD Global phone, Nokia 6.
Still this month I got new firmware update (00WW_5_16A) to Nokia 8. I have to say that the phone has just become better and better by the years thanks to timely updates. No scratches on the screen even I have not used any extra protection for display, battery is still in 100% shape. No lagging, never needed restart except once a month for security and program updates.
