Classic, historic, and a farewell reminiscence from Symbian.

Carol, 07 Jun 2013Have you ever touch it? Have you ever had a symbian anna, b... moreHi Carol, thanks fr ur reply. First thing I want to clarify is that I am not an android fan and hv never used an android device. The only platforms that I have used are iOS, Windows and Symbian, and yes I owned an 808 for a few weeks but I passed it on as I bought a 920. There is no doubt that it is the best phone in terms of camera capabilties, and that it does most functions that you'd expect it to do, but it does not provide you the best smartphone experience that one would expect.

Just to give an example, the touch experience is not bad but not very slick as well, the phone does stutter at times etc. All this does not make 808 a bad phone but these does not make it a great phone either.

The only reason I watch this space regularly is because I love Nokia and this engineering marvel with incredible camera capabilities. All I wanted to say is that it is not such a great phone (not talking about its camera capabilities) as we all are claiming it to be. The reality is its camera is so incredible that most of us have really fallen for the other aspects of 808 as well without being objectively critical.

An EOS would be a device that I believe would be a game changer with uncomparable camera capabilities and a slick platform (though a bit less evolved as of now).

                    Hi pureview-is-the best

I feel your words cause it happens to me as well, and the same as Carol said, people runing after average things that got hyped by marketing...listen to this

I was in my work...normal day then my friend saw some photos by me on flickr...he asked me what camera I used, cause he admired the quality...I said I captured it by my phone...he stares at me...he freaks me out, then he was just like someone shocke, he asked me and what is your mobile???...I said Nokia 808 pureview, he said to me Nokia?????

No no I think Nokia is dead and not any more...I just pronounced 41 MP, he said ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, is that real??? Please show it to me...I show it the hump with Carl Zeiss optics, then we opened the camera and capture a photo at full res. And we was blown away, he asked me about viber and skype, then he told me he really needs them by name, he owns Iphone 4S, his friend just entered and he asked about him: What do you think about this phone, He asked him what kind of It?...My friend said:Nokia...The guy said: Nokia no waaaaaaay...it's dead..I love my Xperia....My friend tolled him: IT IS 41MP SENSOR...the guy was shocked and amazed in the same time...he catchs the phone from my hand and he was very nervous and hasty:open the cam, now, we opened and capture a photo...then he zoomed and said OMG LOOK AT THE DETAILS...INCREDIBLE!!!
They admired it soooo much and they asked me why nokia didn't marketing it...I said in myself, It's big story and sad bro...big story!!!

I never saw a great thing having to much attention from people. There were always average to crappy things that got hyped. So, enjoy your great thing:)

Desperately waiting for a pricecut. This phone is available here for more than 400 euro, after more than a year of availability... too expensive. Hope it will be cheaper once the EOS hits the marktet. I want either this Phone or the EOS. When this phone will be much cheaper, I will go for this.

                            Carol and ziad,
my zombie land experience continued again.
Went into a day long meeting of 30 people and after the meeting clicked a photo and sent it to the group.
Just in 10 min almost everyone was on my seat asking which camera I used in the meeting to click photo since none was carrying point and shoot.

When I told it was mobile that took the photo, they were blown away, what a look on their faces. When I told it is a 41 mp sensor they were shocked again. Nobody had heard about it till this moment.

Feels like I am all alone in this droidland. But it does not bothers me. I know what jewel I am holding in my hand.

Have you ever had a symbian anna, belle, belle fp2 device in your hands? If not, then i understand your words. Allot of times my n8 proved more smooth then an android device not just once, but allot of times. While belle fp2 devices are 2 times more powerful then N8. So, 808 in terms of speed and reliability is better or equal with galaxy s2 dual core device. BUT in terms of reliability i can say that is better then android, way better. I never had my n8 cracking every 2 hours cause of an app and the story goes further. But i've seen allot of android's freezing while playing games or whatever on it, while surfing, while listening to music etc. So, android is not that great as people make it sound.
