PureView 41MP is going to take some time on other platforms, or probably even not in the nearest future. If you want PureView 41MP, then this is your only ticket, no ifs, no buts.

Anonymous, 05 Aug 2012Expensiver than DSLR camera... Worth it? Absolutely not...How much is a 31MP sensor DSLR camera? $12,485.80 USD

How much is the Nokia 808 PureView? $700 USD

The Nokia 808 PureView is a phone, not a DSLR. DSLR is not compact, can't take calls, etc., but the Nokia 808 can, and also take pictures. Thanks for the comparison, anyway. :-)

If only this magnificent technology was enclosed within a modern smartphone... I'd buy it right there because there's simply no competition to this PureView tech. But... instead you end up with a 640x360 screen and Symbian OS. Pity.

Ideally this would be an Android device, with fully customized camera app from Nokia. With Android the company just takes the source code and makes all the adjustments they want. Now they are stuck with Windows Phone, which they can't modify directly to cater their needs. Pity the decisions like sticking to a particular OS are being made not by engineers but by top-level execs, who often don't know anything about the development.

This PureView technology is likely to be found in a WP 8 phone but what's worrying me is that it may be limited by Windows Phone OS. Or by Nokia itself - by design.
So for example we will get 20 MP sensor instead of 41 MP, so the oversampling will be limited, so the quality will be worse. Or they will cut some other features so the phone will be cheaper so it will sell "better"... But this would be wrong in my opinion, Nokia has the potential here to stand out from the crowd and should use it! There's no other phone like this and if people could buy a WP 8 phone with this tech that's a little bit more expensive or bulky than the other without PureView tech, they would buy it.

If only 808 was a modern smartphone also, it would sell like hotcakes. Now we have to wait and see.
