to Brian,

i can understand where your coming from when you say why not just buy a 6021, yes i could just buy a phone that is cheaper but it will also look Cheaper.

If i am in a meeting at work or just down the pub and i whip out a 6021 people will look at it and me and think i have no style or money, if i take out my 8800 people will automatically think (just like you have!!)"thats an expensive phone must have spent a bit of money to get one of those", people will acknowledge the fact they cost alot, same goes for when you see a guy getting out a ford compared to someone getting out of a ferrari, and again if you can buy a suit for £200 why go out and spend £1000 on a Gucci suit, this phone can be seen as a status symbol to the same extent, anybody who complains that the phone lacks the proper quality of features is missing the point of this phone entirely.

i would like to point out that my phone works fine (8801 owner). also Nokia has a policy with this phone where, if you feel you have problems with it, they will replace with a brand new one for free as long as you send your original back, hassle-free. paperwork involved, but for such an expensive fone im glad they incorporated that.

Why have those features if your not going to use it. if you just want a phone get the nokia 6021. why splash out £500 on something with plenty of features only to find you cant use them cos the battery is crap

i hear alot of people complaining that their battery doesn't last more than half a day, i have had my 8800 for about 2 months now, i have had no problems with the menus or the features, maybe i got a good one i dont know, but my battery will last 2-3 days easily - you know why?, cos i am not constantly playing around with it, i dont constantly open and close it or go through the menus with no need to, i dont play the games, i have no MP3's on it, i use it for about 1-2 hours every day for calling people (the purpose it was made for!!) the phone does everything i need/want to use it for. i wouldn't swap it for any other phone people claim is "top of the range", why? this is THE top of the range PHONE for what it actually is - a Phone

another example of an overpriced phone, which is style over content, some perfomance issues with the handset and also the battery like is considered to be below standard. which is unacceptable with the cost of the handset.

I dunno how to put it to you ppl...but trust and believe me..this phone is juz horrible. You may look cool holding it in yours hand but what lies beneath may be a shutted off phone(*or sld it be no batt). The battery life is just so miserable can!! You might even end up paying more on electricty bills on charging the phone too often than your monthly bill.

Hi Guyz, I've found something for you,
A personal mobile communication device which lets you be free and fun. It is light, simple and carefree. You can change its form according to your needs during the day. You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. Also e-motions let you send forms to other 888 users: i.e. you can send a heart shape to your girlfriend or a dancing figure to your friends to call them to the party tonight. This way you can talk without words.

Tamer Nakisci, the designer explains in detail about this work.

                    *technologies that are used
It uses liquid battery, speech recognition, flexible touch screen, touch sensitive body cover which lets it understand and adjust to the environment. It has a simple programmable body mechanism so that it changes forms in different situations.

                    *the functionality of design
You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. The functions that it has also create a feeling of electronical pet, as it senses your moves, understand what you want, respond you in the best way. It learns you, to fit you better. Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other 888 users. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way you can talk without words.

                    *how the user interacts
E-motions... It means electronical motions that 888 has. You can send and receive forms from / to friends. You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend, so her telephone turns into an icon of heart. Or you can send a dancing form to your friends to call them to the party tonight. This is the fun side of the product. If we look from the functionality side, 888 is quite flexible. You can put it into your pocket, roll it and make it smaller, or put on your wrist when you want to make a video call on the go. If you want to talk like a normal telephone, there you have your telephone shape. We go through a lot of places and situations in the daily life, so it seems like one form is not enough.

                    *what is unique ?
You can change the form of the body. Not just the color. And you can do the same by sending an e-motion to your friend.

                    *the inspiration
The idea is that "the perfect form" does not exist. "Form follows you" We create the perfect form for each function.

a really bad phone.Except for the looks, this phone has nothing to look forward to.judging from the comments so far, it seems that most people are not liking this phone. i know the soul purpose of a phone is to make and receive calls and everything else like camera and radio etc are all secondary functions. for the price that nokia is selling this phone, not only should it have all the latest features and best quality, they should have made sure it works 500 % before launching it. the fact of the matter here is that this phone can only be afforded by an elite few (people with lots of money) unfortunately if things dont work right with the phone, these are the types of people who will make the most noise and judging by the after sales service from nokia, sales people around the world are going to have alot of rich irate customers to deal with and the people that are going to bare the majority of the grunt is the sales people. did nokia not test their batteries before adding it to the sales package?
i cant remember when last i had a phone that only gave me half a days battery life, i think that was way back in about 1994 with my motorola 5200. even my first nokia, a nokia 2110 had better battery life.

if anyone from nokia reads this, can we get some feedback on what testing procedures this phone was put through before it went on sale and also what the results of these tests were.

hi...i was using 8800 for only few days...i was reading this review on page 2 which was saying " There is an option of sound improvement activation in the menu. I can't imagine one who will not use this function, why there is an option to switch it off? " under; TITLE: " You won't scratch it when it's closed. " line number 7 and 8. i was wondering why i can't find the option?! can anyone please be so kind to let know where i can find that option?! thank you...
