If caller ID is not set up in the mobile account, then the Name nor the Number of the caller will be displayed!!!

The different problems encountered by 8800 user is the software bug. . . .no excuse for Nokia with such a simple phone!!!

      to marshy,
m8 you might want to call your service provider, as they might not have caller id set up on your mobile account. this could be another cause of that problem. if they say that it is active, then yes it's your phone. hope this helps. :)

          Hi all,
I've been waiting to get my hands on one of these in South Africa for months now (despite all the bad comments on this site!), but none of the local phone shops sem to know when it will be released here. When I call Nokia's agents they simply respond by saying that they are still waiting for network approval before launching the 8800 - think that may have anything to do with the quality problems experienced elsewhere? Does anyone know anything about a South African launch date for this fantastic looking phone?

I've just baught the 8800 and it doesn't seem to display the name of the caller when i receive an incoming call, even though the number is in my contacts list. It just displays the number. Does anyone know whther this is a bug or whether this happens on all 8800's?

i believe this phone exists simply for the rich to show off their wealth.who dont need to consider whether this is worth the money or not.even the N90 is less expensive.maybe one of the reasons why 8800 dont have expandable memory and megapixel camera is because those owners probably have other phones which have these features, or they already hav mp3 players and digital cameras so they dont need them on the 8800 at all.

yes.. a phone for calls.. but need the quality as a phone as well: reception, battery life---> this phone sux (i mean in terms of this, which is one of the basic function of a phone). i already suggest you by any mean not to buy this phone (unless you get it for free or less than AUD 300

I think it still needs to be improved with an 'i' edition

Honestly speaking, this 8800 is pretty rubbish!!!

I finally decided to give up my 5th one & I swear I will never buy another 8800 ... the reason for me keep on buying 8800 was because I hope I would be lucky enough to find one without some kind of problem(they all have). The only Pro about this phone is the look & the loud speaker, nothing else!!!

Good luck to you people who like the look & is planning to buy one.

This phone has similarity to a vertu phones....Vertu is also a nokia owned company but comparing to it's features i think the Nokia 8800 is best because vertu using the old monochrome screen and similar features in the older models of nokia(8210 for example) but 8800 has a advanced features they only familiar to it's built structure....

There is problem with the build quality and especially the quality control with this 8800 from Nokia!
Some of them have very weak reception and some of them Ok ... depending if you are lucky!!!

Personally owning this mobile phone, my review is that, Yes it does look cool and believe it or not ppl do get attracked to this phone out of the blue, but anything, apart from looking good the screen is nice and bright plus scratch proof, classy and fashionable and that about it i guess, poor battery life, body get easily scratch, heavy, signal for me is good where i live so that is not much of a problem, finger mark when ever i or other ppl use it, not to fuss about the camera, at the end of hte day it a phone, so here you go some good and some bad point and at the end of the day it up to you to buy it or not. Personally if you like it go for it, but other ppl think it not worth the money i too agree on that because it does cost abit, so u can decide by urself.

pls pls pls i extremely not recommending you to get this phone for some reasons:
                                  1. its not worth its price
                                  2. features so-so onli
                                  3. camera onli 0.5 Mp/SVGA
                                  4. battery life span onli for 1 day
                                  5. anti scratch screen but not on the stainless body
                                  6. very heavy
                                  7. Nokia 6230i has a lot better feature with 1/3 the price

i am trying to find out from people who have the phone if they get less signal than others on there network because the is story's going around that because of the metal finish it interfere's with the signal and this is why some networks won't sell it.

sold my first one today!!! only had the handset in store for 3 days (they've been on back order the whole time that they've been available in australia). it looked good when i turned it on for the customer but i hope it doesn't come back with any problems because after getting the first one in store they are on backorder again!!! so i'll have to wait for another month to get one in...
