Since everyone is asking the same questions here here are the very simple answers which everyone should already know.
First the price of this phone serves one purpose and one purpose only, keeps the phone exclusive. No one cares if it has a good camera or a ringtone library or whatever else. The fact that its steel and not titanum is also not relevant.Nokia can make the phone out of cheap plastic or cardboard and still sell it for 2000USD. At the end of the day what matters is its very expensive and not everyone can have it.It is that simple. For those of you who are trying to find justification for the price, give up there simply isnt. Dont compare it with with the features of a 200USD phone either because one costs 200USD and the other 1,000USD. Its aimed at a market who would like to not have the same phone as the rest of the world. Some might find this concept stupid or silly but at the end of the day those who can afford it will buy it and those who cant will keep on putting it down.

    this phone is very bad
i would not recomeend anybody to buy this piece of expensive cr*p
i bought this cell a week back
    it is a bit heavy
i got scratches on the 2nd day
nokia should be sued 4 publishin wrong information
my PA dropped the phone on the ground and and the bottom part of the phone just came out
when she went to pick it up she received a bad shock
the worst part is that nokia claims that it is made up of high tech ceramics
but my brand new phone is already in 2 pieces

I laugh at the people that say this phone has no features and say it is overprice.

In features wise, I could say it is very similar to the SE K700i which was once praise as one of the best phones out in the market. It does it job and people are happy with that. So in my opinion in features its just right for people that dont go for features but more for looks.

But everyone is saying why is it so expensive. Look at the mobile, and compare it with phones like the se k750i or the nokia 6230i. are you guys telling me this phone doesnt kill it in looks. people purchase this phone for originality because they know if they walk down the street the possibilty of seeing another user of the 8800 is a million to 1.

So to wrap up for features go else where. For looks with a reasonable amount of features and also you get the originality that you want. then buy this phone.

        @ Panda Z.

That is not a good example at all.

        Ask yourself this:

Why drive a mercedes S600 when you can drive a Mercedes S600 "new edition" with more featues and better performance at the same price.

This is a nice phone, but some features needs to be worked out. Many people are saying why pay so much for a phone when you can buy a phone with the same features or even better for a lower cost. I ask why do people buy a Mercedes when they can drive a Honda when they both have four wheels and gets you to point a to point b. My answer is because you can!!!

It`s not that the 8800 is bad because it is not. It is a very good phone, hell it is amazing (because of its size and features). The problem is that there are phones that can do everything the 8800 can do... and BETTER. Most of us just don`t understand why the price is so high compared to its performance (don`t bring me this design S***T). I`m a N90 user so i`m on your team... I just don`t see the reason for the high price. I bought the N90 this week and payed the same amopunt as I would have for the 8800 but chose the N90 because it could do just the same as 8800...just better.

As I said in my earlier post "I would have bought the 8800 if I were a business man in a suit" but I`m not. Seriously I can`t see Nokia keeping the current price of the 8800 for more than ... lets say 4 months. But honestly everyone knows that the price of a phone will decrease after 3 - 4 months, even the 8800 as it will be outdated. If Nokia does not adjust the price of the 8800 the stores will not sell them as people will not buy them (As newer phones with better technology and performance will appear) and thus will not order more from Nokia. That is why the price will decrease.

i just ordered this phone and can't wait for it to arrive. i don't get why most people seem to dislike this phone so much (as evidenced in their posts). the features are exactly what you would expect and need in a MOBILE PHONE. if you're looking for great picture and camera quality, then get a DIGITAL CAMERA (as it is it's even a bonus that this has a camera). if you want great sound/music quality, get an MP3 PLAYER. the important thing is that you can send and receive text, make and receive calls, plus other additions like what this phone offers.

u know cs? you are just exactly the type of customer that nokia are hoping for.

This 8800 hang all the time !

I am already on my 3rd brand new 8800 in less than 2 months time !!!

The 1st one hang the first day I use it & it frequently turn itself OFF & then ON again !
The 2nd one hang whenever I use the "alert for" function !
This 3rd one also hang when I try using the camera (also turn itself off & then on again !
The worst thing is that the "ALERT FOR" function do not work on all 3 of them !
(Can someone try their 8800 "alert for function" & give some advise?)

I believe this phone have Bugs !

                      Good day.

I decided to buy a new phone this week and after much searching and reading I bought the Nokia N90. To be honest I find the design, features and performance of the N90 to be far superior than the 8800. I have always good eye towards Nokia phones and ì`m the kind of person who only shops my phones at Nokia and my clothes at Dolce & Gabbana, Ferre or Boss so I can say that I am in the class this phone was targeted at.

My main problems with the 8800 are as follows.

                      1) although the design is realy nice it is in one way to conservative for my taste. If wearing a suit would be my style then I would have considered it, but as my style is a little different it does not appeal to me. the design has a "old business man in suit" feeling to it, which I do not like. The N90 has more of a leisure, relaxed rich boy feeling to it that like to experiment and play.

                      2) In the field of feature and performance it is not bad but I can`t see anything special with it that the N90 can`t do much better and since the price is the same...well.

My opinion is that the design of the N90 and N91 are both better than the 8800. Combined with better features and performance and the same price I just can`t understand what people see in the 8800.

                      Just my thoughts

I don't understand why people spent million of dollars to buy a painting of Picasso. Its a piece of cloth with some painting. And thats why my friends don't understand why I bought a Nokia 8800. I like this phone because its design and the solid feeling. The features are just fit what I need. Im happy even just looking at it. Best value, lots of features, smart or not, who care?

the reason why this phone is expensive is for exclusivity. if you want to be different, then buy this phone. now if you want to show of, then that's another story. i don't like having the same things as everyone else - this not only applies to my phones, but my bags and shoes as well. i wanted a motorazor initially but everyone has it already. i personally love the nokia 8800's design and look of the phone, that's why i'm getting it. it matters that my phone has bluetooth too and this has it so it's even better. this phone reminds me of my old phone which was my favorite but got stolen - the nokia 8810. it's from the same 8 series.

anyway, to those nokia 8800 bashers out there, please bear in mind that the 8 series of nokia is dedicated to design more than features. so if your priority is the latter, then you'll have to settle for a cheaper and less nicer-looking phone. it all boils down to what you really want. by the way, the price of this phone will remain unchanged for the next few years, that's how it will retain is exclusivity - which is what the manufacturers always wanted.

Hi, Since 1985. Compare the present. Honestly, ask yrself is it worth to throw yr $ to Nokia?

Jealously? Of course, not jealous. I'm smart enough to study the features & look at its build before coming to conclusion whether to buy or not. Of course, I m not dumb enough to buy. (Maybe to those who dunoo much about phone and the market now, they will buy). As a consumer, why give in to vendor and pay them when they cannot guarantee something attractive, justificable, new, good. (I not saying nokia is no good. They are good too.)

Also, making a phone with such features is cheap unless u are saying that they are going into something new in technology which can be justified for its high cost. Look at 8800, series 40 phone, software etc...

Mobile phones are actually extermely cheap to buy nowadays, in the past 15 -20 years; those hugh, cheaply made plastic mobile phones with almost no features cost us an average of around US$4,000 each ... for which price you can buy a Vertu today. Bare in mind that in those past years, there was so much inflation! So how could anyone say that this 8800 is an expensive phone? As a matter of fact; if we look to the past, the price for this 8800 is very cheap only ... we can even say that the Vertu is reasonably priced.

Working for Vodafone, I would have to admit that this phone is definitely over-priced. Although nugo, that was well put, I still have to disagree. Based on the poor features of this phone, the quality would have to be phenomenally better than say, a Nokia 6680. Well it isn't. The 6680, although plastic, has just as much thought and care in it. When you boil it down you're paying twice as much for the metal casing. Throw your money away if you must, but it seems a little 'up' yourself if you ask me =)

                                  "The 8800 Club"

Word has gotten around the medical community that I'm a big advocate of the 8800. Upon my return to the office I got an "inviation" for lunch to the "8800 club" with four other Docs.

At fist I thought it was a joke - but now I think it's a good idea. Like-minded gadget freaks getting together, networking. Besides phone talk, income investment ideas and stock market tips can be exchanged. What better way to spend some free time - shrimp salads and the Nokia 8800?

It's interesting to note the ortho guys are the greatest number of 8800 owners!
