My opinion. Buying this phone blinding without justification is considered dumb. It is not a matter of who's rich or who can afford it, it matter of how u judge or assess an item for its price. Buying something to show that u can afford it instead of it usability is a dumb thing to do.

I love the simplicity and the weight of this phone. It holds as a class of its own and i very much appreciate its simple yet bold style. As for the functions? hmmmm... a mobile is a mobile.... dun need any gimicks. All i need it is to answer my calls and sent sms's. Dun need any mp3 or 2 mp camera in my mobile. Great looking phone. ;)

Seriously, this phone does not look nice in photo or real handset in my opinion. It's most attractive portion is its high overpriced so that u can show off to people. But in fact, people may be hiding behind laughing at u for buying such a phone without features.

I love the look of this handset but for the price it's very limited on features. I could spend half the amount and get something with features 100 times better.

8800 in red! Wow!!!
I've spent the last two days on a quick business trip to New York.
At dinner I overheard the distinctive ring of my phone. I looked over at a nearby table and couldn't believe my eyes -a ruby red 8800!!!
I had to talk to the couple. I introduced myself and learned that the female owner of the Nokia had Swarovski crystals attached to the casing.
It looked very rich, very unique. I would never ask a stranger what the artwork cost but I suspect it was less then $1,000.00. A bargin considering the store in Beverly Hills wants minmum of $17,500 for a diamond encrusted case, I thought this was a very creative (and cost effective) option.
Have any of the readers of this site customized their 8800? If so, I'm sure everyone would like to hear your experience.

nokia 8800...a big hit everywhere? comment eveywhere, good and bad. many people do not realise that the features of 88xx series phones are always simple. the main concern for those series of phones are the design and material. many people are giving comment about the camera, the features, without considering the design and material. other phones that have much and far way more features that nokia 8800 are made of plastic, but the features are superb, i admit it.
so...it seems like many feedback that were talking about this phone is just stupid to purchase, i think you guys just being jelous for not owning one.

i've had the phone for a month now, and it's silly that people (generally those who don't actually own the phone) are still moaning about it.
people who get upset by the 0.5MP camera should realise that all cameras in mobile phones are simply outclassed by almost every actual digital camera. they use different imaging chips, have different lense technology etc and can never produce pictures of that great a quality. if there is anything else which people don't like about it, it's not necessarily things which the phone has but are of bad quality; instead it seems to be things which the phone doesn't have.
all i can say is that 2 or 3 years down the line, this phone will still be very much sought after and going for a few hundred dollars/pounds. i can't say the same for any of these megapixel phones. i can imagine you being able to pick up a 6230i off ebay for under £100 in 18 months time.

I don' think it's intended for a higher class,i belive it's intended for the class of people who don't know what to throw money at.If you say that people don't notice a W800 next to your ear you are so,so wrong. The only major diff is that this is metal (wich gets full of marks from your fingers, cheek etc.).You will be considered richer if they see you with one but that's about all,you get stuck with medium features.Alltho the design is kinda ugly, looks like a didldo. You decide what to buy of course but i don't see the point in Nokia 8800 ...

yeah alright, so you guys are saying its not worth paying so much for a benz? the toyota avalon grande model does the same thing. BUT people pay that much for the style and the "name". Its the same with phones.. particularly the nokia 8800...

in reply talal masood, nokia 8800 has same features with 6230i. But the intended market for nokia 8800 is much for the higher class, this phone has the "hectic" and "style" image where a 6230i doesnt have any of that. This is what your paying for in the nokia 8800 and that is the intended market. A 6230i is about $500-600, there not around 300

OK, i drive a pulsar, why, because it didn't cost me the earth, and it has electronic windows, air bags and cruise control. People may not look at it and say that is the sexiest car around, it cost me 15000. Why spend over a grand on a phone which doesn't have anything special, i might be a tight ass, but god dam, you don't need a chain saw to cut a birthday cake.

Indeed,it really sucks it's mostly for hypocrits who consider a phone's only purpouse is to brag & show off in front of others. No offence to the owners but you can get way better performance for much lower price. It sucks and it doesn't worh all that money.Try a SE W800 or Samsung D500.This is really worthless

To be honest it is foolish to buy Nokia8800 costing $1000 when you can get Nokia6230i with same exact features for $300+
