y in gods name would anyone want an 18k gold fone with worst specs than a 6600 fold. we as a world are in recession but nokia (being the optimistics they are) still think some one will be dumb enough to splash there spare cash on it.

Personally I never liked gold phones ever since the Ericsson T68(see link below), there's just something about them that looks too ostentatious, black or silver look a lot more refined.

Gold looks like a pimp phone, good for drug dealers and criminals.

and you are just emphasizing that high price + gold = luxury whereas i say more function + less price = more luxury.
you all people are just proving it again and again as a nice show piece than a nice mobile phone.

Its a shame these phones cost so much, the lack of features is almost criminal for the price they ask. Sure the handset looks good and there is still a market of people who love the 8800 series, but an 18 carat gold plated phone is a tad over-the-top.

Plenty of potential to upgrade this series: wi-fi, bigger camera, expandable memory, improved 3G etc.

Who knows, maybe a platinum plated 8800 will achieve these extra features :P

how do you define luxury?? does it mean a rediculously expensive piece of metal or luxury is something (a device) which can do all the task (well if not all then many task)like taking beter picture, better connectivity, better productivity etc at lesser price than something which is rediculously priced??
i guess it comes down to people taste to define what luxury is. but its rediculous to redicule the economic condition in poorer countries just to try to defend this overly priced piece of metal. kindly do enlight me what is luxury suppose to mean in term of mobile phones. i understand living in big house, having body guards, 5 digit pay check, being born in a developed nation is luxury, but what luxury does this cell phone provide other than making calls, texting and being shiny is appearance.
