I am facing a Lock screen display problem with my Nokia 8.1 which has been updated to Android version 10. The lock screen displays after every 20 - 30 seconds.

A Nokia phone only in name, but not in the expected quality from a former leader of mobile hardware.

To differentiate oneself from the plethora of Blandroid devices, one needs to stand out from the noisy crowd. Nokia is simply a follower of others. The Chinese manufacturers and SameSong lead the way with innovation.

Really?.. with only 3500 msg battery? I doubt that.. SOT of the device is around 7-8 hours with moderate use.. SOT goes down with heavy usage at around 6 hours..

There are far too many "fans" "reviewing" this HMD phone with the "Nokia" brand on it!
The screen is very bad, it has a 0.61 cd/m² black value that results in an underwhelming 930:1 contrast ratio! The display backlight flickers at 75.76 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 10 % and below. The frequency of 75.76 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use.
The screen is not sensitive enough, but sometimes far too sensitive because of very bad overall quality!

            - Excellent display for the price. HDR support that makes videos very enjoyable. Quite capable brightness during daylight.

            - Decent processor capable of running 50+ tabs in chrome without tanking.

            - Very good microphone quality for calls and recording video. Excellent in fact.

            - Good image quality both on front and back cameras. Very neutral representation of colour saturation. True to lighting conditions but still takes excellent pictures in the dark (due to the wide lense), as long as there's a little light. Biggest plus: image stabilization on both front and back camera. OIS.

            - Speaker is loud, but mono. Useful enough for YouTube and hearing what's being said. Not the best for instrumental or vocal range in terms of music. It works for media consumption and some music if you are not an audiophile.

            - 3,5mm audio jack which makes up for the lack of a stereo speaker setup. Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD, aptX, LDAC, etc.

            - AndroidOne is clean and easy to customize. No complaints there. Gboard is a great keyboard with useful functions or the ability to turn functions on and off in a modular manner.

            - Overall solid build quality. Power button and volume button have noticeable tactile feedback but feel pretty sturdy. Doesn't look like a cheap device.

            - Excellent battery quality with fast charge (18 watt power brick included in the box). The charger has three separate ratings: 5V=3A, 9V=2A and 12V=1,5A. It slows down charge speed at 90% battery capacity. Charges the battery quite quickly. The battery is capable of well over 10 hours of screen time with moderate to heavy use.

            - Bluetooth headsets appear to use the phone's onboard mic rather than the headset in certain apps. Although that is probably an Android Q issue. My biggest annoyance so far.

            - The notification bar is a little limited due to the large notch. But at least the notch isn't noticeable with the option to hide it enabled as default. You have to swipe the notification bar down to overview some useful info. It takes a while getting used to.

            - The screen/device is quite large. It's a little cumbersome to wield with one hand. It's a matter of getting used to.

Overall value for your money is impressive in the Nokia 8.1. i would call it a bargain if you catch it at around 300 Euros. I was a little unsure of the purchase at first but the overall product is quite good.

Guys please go only to the Nokia service centre and degrade from version 10 to 9, it works fine. No issues at all. I did the same recently.

                        • As I've been using this device for 9 months I felt no such problem like that.. Call quality is fine on my nokia 8.1
                        • Definately Nokia. 8.1 is better buy than nokia 7.2.. reasons are Batter battery life, Fast charging, better build quality, better processor and here it is cheaper than nokia 7.2 and offer much more better specs which makes it a better buy over nokia 7.2.. Only thing that may dissapoint you is the big notch on nokia 8.1 which looks outdated other than that Nokia 8.1 is thr best android one phone currently available on market

I see a lot of people facing prob with the anrd 10 update. The best way? Do not update. work with pie for a few days. I got my nokia 8.1 today and the store owner advised me to NOT update it with over the air update coz it comes with lots of bugs and is annoying to use. Instead go to your nearest service center after atleast 15 days and ask them to update it for you (they too receive the software from the brand itself and by the time they receive it its bug free) Make sure you backup all your data.

For those who have already updated to 10 i think there is a way to go back to 9 not quite sure about this do check some youtube vids

What do you like? What design? Look for unbiased tests in you tube (spotting biased reviews is easy, mostly the reviewer has a very sweet spot for a brand that pay some money, or more money then others, or he is just a biased person and everything is worse then his beloved brand). See it put against other devices. IS it good enough for you? In my opinion, for the price, it is a steal but that does not have to be yours. Go at a store and use it, be aware a lot of times in the store is not quite the experience you'll get with a device after a while, a lot of times it get's better or worse as you use that device. Take pictures and see if you like them, test the system, do you like android pure? And at the end do some research on battery and keep in mind. battery by some can be very weak due to their lack of experience or overall lack of technology understanding. so look for an answer that is made by more then 20 people and make an avarage for yourself.
