Dear Nokia

When will you get rid of your Nokia logo on the front? I don't want to be seeing any distraction however subtle when watching Netflix or playing games. Give us a great screen, period. Other phones have ditched their logos five years ago, and put them on the back. Is Nokia that insecure to keep reminding us we're holding one of their phones?

Love, NixTheLogoless

Spec look good on paper but 600Euro price tag make everything upside down. That price even Sd865+ come soooo close.

Carol, 27 Aug 2020Well, at least you tried...To give you some idea about what... moreAll but hearsay on your side to be honest. The only thing that's correct were the ones about Nokia or HMD as companies. The rest were just baseless arguments. Why? Because of all the things you've said, you never gave any way to counter-check your claims. This conversation started by you telling a random user that his/her statements were baseless and yet here you are continuing hypocrisy showing it at one of its finest example ever existed. To be fair to the people engaged to this conversation, only one has cited a proper source to his/her claims and that I agree upon what he/she has said where true. IDK what's your deal with Chinese companies but all your arguments against them are weak at the very least. You're too much consumed by your biases whether which side you're on and you forgot to be factual atleast, all your unchecked arguments are simply just moot.

I'm not against Nokia here, what I'm against with are biased statements with no basis or hard evidence given. You're right for citing IEEE spectrum source.

It's not only about the number of patents values are also important. And note nokia, qalcomm and Google are major investors in Hmd check the minor ones...Hmd also got some money like that in 2016.....

DroidBoye, 27 Aug 2020It's just bizarre that you thought that "Chinese&... moreWell, at least you tried...To give you some idea about what you're talking about, as we can all see, you pretty much know nothing, or half backed information. First things first, Nokia is a company not just a brand, but an actuall company and it has nothing to do with that small amount of money google and qualcomm "invested" in HMD. Nokia is now pretty much doing infrastructure, working on medical devices or drones. And this is what they do with 5G, building chips and installing networks. They might not have as many customers as Huaway, at the time, but they grow big time. To put it simple for you, they do really good. Well, compared to huawawi, they of course are not as cheap, and well? They actually work and are paid for their work, so it is normal to be more expensive. Huaway is just spreading the 5g for cheapper and that is why many want it. Now HMD might owe some patents because of the last innovations they did, but Nokia never gave it's patents up. That would be pretty much dumb for them to give away a cash cow for the next 100 years, we're talkimg about thousends of patents here. So yeah, HMD borrows Nokia technology. The fact that nokia supports them is another story. As going back to HMD, they are a small company based in Finland that was buid from ground up out of ex Nokia employes after the Elope mole destroied their mobile devision. Their only problem is the fact that they wanted to grow to fast and invested to much at the biginning, henche starting to loose ground as they expected much more income then they actually had, of course, they forgot the new generation is as ignorant as posible. As for them, growing backwords, i really saw no threat to their business before covid, which pretty much wiped a lot of small companies in the past Mounth. They had really hard times stricking businesses with suppliers.
Now going to chinaware, trial? What? What trial? Not even apple could go against them in china, as that country has no law against intelligence theft, so what trial? Maybe now, as they've grown out of their country they will be closely watched and hopefully fined out of the continent. But you can also see a rise in prices and way of doing business. Start as a thief, continue as a honest business company...how typical. But that does not mean i or anybody should forgive and forget the way they fought their way up. So, as i have said to someone else, the only company i respect in that region is asus. They deserve all my respect, the rest is just garbage grown out of a boat and now they want even more money floading europe with expensive disposibles.

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2020Who told you that Nokia is behind Huawei in 5g and note eve... moreNokia is behind Huawei in 5G contracts as of June and that's with Huawei having handicapped of being banned/blacklisted by the US.

                https://www.reuters.com/article/us-telecoms-5g-orders-factbox-idUSKBN23O2G4

Nokia's tech has lots of problem of their own with main one that they can't keep the cost low enough due to the parts (they use the costly FPGA) that they've already paid and secured due to bad prediction:
                https://www.fiercewireless.com/5g/nokia-made-a-bad-call-for-5g-chips-scrambles-to-rectify-situation

                https://www.lightreading.com/5g/nokias-5g-chip-choice-leaves-it-exposed/d/d-id/755184

And now, HMD Nokia needed money for further development and Qualcomm and Google has given them lifeline of 230 Million USD just to keep them afloat.

Huawei's ban by the US is just meant to stagger their 5G spread worldwide until the Americans and EU manufacturers catch-up with their pricing and flexibility with their 5G tech. Before the ban, Huawei's the top priority 5G, nothing comes even close.

From country with no world wide company makes noise most.

Who told you that Nokia is behind Huawei in 5g and note every Chinese phone Maker even Samsung pays royalties to Nokia..

Carol, 26 Aug 2020Do you even read what you post, or you just like the titles... moreIt's just bizarre that you thought that "Chinese" manufacturers depends heavily on Nokia's Patents. Lol. They're not even using Nokia-made modems or cellular hardware for their cellsites infact, Nokia was way behind Huawei in 5G right now and the latest Million USD injection from Qualcomm and Google will partly fund Nokia's 5G which is now under HMD the funds will also keep HMD Nokia running as a whole, without these funds HMD will collapse atleast gradually. If you're talking about Nokia's mobile division and the licences, it is now with HMD and they're the ones developing it as you've already said in terms of licensing.
If your claim that Xiaomi's needs to pay Nokia for their phones to work then kindly give us your source?
Also your sources for these were also welcomed:
Give us EU brands that closes due to intelligence theft that has been proven in court that the Chinese were the culprit.
The stolen technologies that atleast for example, Xiaomi's the one to blame.

Chinese companies has patents too you know. If they have new design that has been based from existing patents then that's not an issue, that's one way to innovate, improve upon existing technology and patent it as your own and this is academically valid in research. One example would be Samsung's PLS panels that were an "improvement" from an LG's IPS, both of them are indistinguishable from the naked eye but they their backend were different.

Now if your claims of theft are valid, provide us some source at the very least.

There is quite celar said, there are more Nokia patents licensed, most of them are not even named. And why would HMD benefit from xiaomi? They license Nokia technology and name too, the only thing from xiaomi would benefit HMD is their demise or retreat in their no laws against property theft land. Yes i have a lot against copycats. A lot european brands that actually innovated were forced to close or are gone bankruptcy because of intelligence theft. People that worked hard an innovated were pushed out of the market by stealing clowns with no law to put them where they belong. So yeah, what you call competition and innovation. I call theft and lies and cheap paste. You go support a ripoff i support my home grown brands, even if now, they are forced to put them device together in china or india, to stay at least competitive against the mass of "ripoffers". Well at least at this one i can agree with donald duck.

Let me guess, they also innovated aluminium and plastic since they use them, right? They can't make a design of a device and all they do is copy and low quallity paste, not even a propper "paste" but wait they were the first to use graphene batteries, good to know some innovate so much, it is actually unbelievable. Nokia's business agreements is with Xiaomi's datacenter infrastructure and not their phones, refer to this: https://www.nokia.com/about-us/news/releases/2017/07/05/nokia-and-xiaomi-sign-business-cooperation-and-patent-agreements/

Xiaomi's smartphone licences in terms of cellular were provided by Qualcomm or Mediatek depending on which SoC they use for their phones to work. With Nokia out of the picture, Xiaomi would still be there since they're not dependent to Nokia with their phones. Nokia isn't even the only one that can do network infrastructure for Xiaomi and Nokia is just an option, not the only one in this industry. I would go to the point that Nokia or HMD Global needs Xiaomi and their deal benefits Nokia more than Xiaomi why? Simple because HMD Global is in the brink of collapse until Google and Qualcomm injected Millions of investment:

Wishing them to go down were what ignorant people does and talking about baseless? Just read your own comment, it's the best example for it. :)
