If windows OS fails....its phones like this Asha that is going to be the last hope for Nokia' survival.
I would close my eyes go for bigger screen and high resolution Asha phones then buggy windows 8 phone.

is whatsapp surely supported by this phone? I m very eager to buy this but if it lacks whatsapp it would be a waste! if whatsapp works, then is it pre installed or needs to be installed manually?

you really missing the point.
actually this phone does suitable for younger generation. the data plan can be expensive for youngster so with 2g they can reduce their data consumption should they want to use mobile data for daily usage and not to mention they have option to use WIFI as well.
