Hi Guys. It is Walid Youssef Again. I saw some requests about how to use VoIP feature on the Nokia E51 and which service to use. I am pleased to give you some help.
1- The First thing that you have to Know that not all phones can use VoIP easly even if it has a WiFi built in. For Example the Nokia E51 and Nokia E90 are comming with VoIP Built in the Firmware of the device but other phones the VoIP is added on software by third parties.
2- As I know there are 3 service provider for VoIP Internet calls that can be used on the Nokia E51 Device which are (Fring, Skype & Gizmo). I used the 3 services but now I use only Gizmo. Fring is like AT&T Call back services. So they call the Number you wish then they call you and make a conference call. By the way you pay for both calls which tends to be very expensive. The Skype add some fees to open the line in the first minute. So if you make short calls it will be expensive for you. Now talk about Gizmo. I saw on the Internet that Gizmo is developped with help of Nokia itself. So it is like put an MS Office on a computer runing Windows which will be fully compatible. The Voice of Gizmo is very clear and it is the cheapest one. So I prefere to use it.
3- Now lets describe how to configure your set for gizmo.
A- Press Menu>Download!>Communication>Gizmo
B- Get & Install Gizmo Software on your Device.
C- Open an Account with Gizmo.
Very Important!!

1- Be Aware when you use Gezmo you have to solve any problem with firewalls
2- In order to save the Battery life, make the Registration on "When Needed" Not "Always On" to Do that do the Following:
A- Press Menu>Settings>Connection>Sip settings>Gizmo VoIP LAN>Registration>
B- Select "When Needed" Option.
3- If you use Gizmo on Different Wifis (For Exemple Home & Office) you have to make sure that you change the Default access point to the access point you use in this time by doing the Following:
A- Press Menu>Settings>Connection>Sip settings>Gizmo VoIP LAN>Default access point>
B- Select the Access point you currently use.

GG and Faris,
I am using FRING for VoIP and it works good when connected to my ADSL WLAN. Since one month I am using this with peace of mind. Best and fast business fone.
Needs battery charging every alternate days.

I just got this phone..excellent. Internet very fast, actually faster than my 8700 BlackBerry. Light weight, reception very clear, screen small but I wont use it to work on spreadsheets. I do have a problem, can not download Skype inorder to use the VOIP. Can any assist?

Change the date of the phone ONE year back and then install the thems. It will work. NOKIA E51 is the best phone. TC

What is 3G: HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps??

HI Shatru,
Some good guys told me to download from www.Mobile9.com which i did, you may want to select your phone first before you choose the type like themes, ringing tone... I have some very nice themes that i like very much, enjoy downloading...
let me know if you still have problem

Awesome phone..
But have not been able to download any themes.. The phone keeps saying "certificate expired, contact application vendor"..
have been trying the download from various sites like zedge, mmc etc. but keep getting the same results.. my previous phone, the nokia 6233 had no problems with the same..
also i cannot download games in .sis format only .zip which later on turns out to be a .sis anyways..
whats the deal on the above queries.. please help me out..

To aloha boy:
like most S60 phones such as 6630, N70 etc. you can store unlimited messages in this phone. (until the memory is full which is a bit more than 100MB in the phone and your 512MB card.) i used to have a W810i sometime back and comparing it with the E51, the E51 is a million times better in almost every way except the cam which has no auto-focus. this is a good upgrade for you.

Great phone
I have used for more than two months without problem.
The only thing I am missing is using the VOIP feature.
Can anyone shed the light of how to use? and what VOIP application is suitable with this feature? and where to find?

hi im planning to buy e51.. my main concerne is.. how many text msg can it store??? bec. im using this sony ericcson w810 with 2 gig external mem.. but iam limited with only 100 text msg.. and i need to erase everytime...

I’m planning to purchase a new E51.. and i have some question 4 u guys..
about the memory card, if i choose to use the 4GB capacity, will it slowing the performance of the phone? anyone who've tried the 4GB please share our opinion..
and about the brand of the memory card, which brand do u suggest me to buy? what the advantages of buying branded memory card?
and about the dust issues, anyone solve the problem yet?

In this moment no update is avab.from Nokia Development. THis think is good, because it means that E51 is a good device with no big software problems, bugs!

I have bought N E51 (read: nice-see) last week.
As my job is an Engineer, which is I go to refinery and managerial tasks, She is very helpful for me. Primarily I bought for her WiFi and HSDPA ability. While the multimedia feature keeps me away from stress and bad mood.
Buy her for professional/ease of making connection, she will rock you with her 'fleasure' (feature of pleasure).

i have to agree with Walid that the plastic screen that sits over the display itself is very thin and very easily scratched. Depending on the scratches, some scrathes end up looking like a very minute speck of dust when really it is just a scratch. Because if it is a speck of dust, then "the dust" would be mobile, meaning it will move from point to point all over the display over time. It is best that you buy a screen shield to protect it; other than this issue, the phone has the power of N82 minus camera quality + GPS.

Is there any update for E51 from the time it has launched actually? How could we identify that from the package?
