according to digital display the matrix theory of the graph axises are x and y dimentions the coordinates of x&y are filled with pixels, now generally the first pixel on top let corner is considered to be 1:1 so starting from this point you can fill the screen with pixels along each diamention i.e. x and y the smaller the pixel size the more the pixels fill in the screen.
you actually divided 640 by 2 and 480 also by 2 this means that the area 2.46" remains the same but the pixel size is increased which results in a non clear display while the same ratio can also be doubled to 1280 * 960 in the same screen size.
so there is no restriction on the number of pixels in a screen unless it respects the diagonal length of the screen in digital graphics. this applies to all phones regardless of the maker.

how could the resolution be 640/480. may i remind you that the resolution is proportional with the dimension of the screen. so , in this case the res should be 320/240.

This phone DOESN'T need an amoled screen, think about it. It has a very high resolution of 640x480, which is twice the amount of resolution, found in the Nokia E71/E72 flagships...and these two flagships have really fantastic razor sharp displays.
You probably wouldn't even see a difference in picture and text quality with an amoled screen based on how this screen is. Also, you would pay more for an amoled screen and quite a few people are bawling about the already high price slated for this high end E6 phone.
So I don't know if an amoled screen would make this phone go at a higher level than it already is at BUT I sure do know an amoled screen would make the price go at a higher level.
