I've had it for around 10 days. Very nice, no crashing at all. I've had before Windows one and the software was a lot better. I still need to find a decent File explorer and encryption software for this phone. Resco had one for Windows that was almost the same as Windows Explorer. Also after I Infrareded an Excel spreadsheet and it went straight to the Inbox, and when I tried to open it it said it does not recognize the file type. The phone does have spreadsheet but in different folder from the menu and it seems that everything out of the folder is not recognized. Anyone knows a decent File Explorer for this phone?

Has anyone compare this E61 with SE M600? Which one is better depends on the office function, battery life and the speed?

So far, Nokia E61 has exceeded my expectaztions. I've had it for a month now, and works extremely well. Haven't crashed once. Fast response time (unlike Nokia 6681). Screen is excellent. Keyboard is surprisingly easy to get used to. Sound quality is great. Ringtones are loud. WLAN and email client works seemlessly without any trouble. I was able to get online using WLAN without even reading the manual. PDA Design is slick. Very slim and lightweight. You have to remove the back cover to insert/remove Mini-SD memory card. However, it does not require you to turn off the phone or remove the battery.

Also, this PDA is designed for business professionals, where many companies do not allow you to have cameras/cameraphones in their boardrooms/meetings, etc. Hence, no camera (smart move, Nokia). It has a voice recorder as well as real player for music, videos, etc. Once you start using the joystick, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to navigate. I would rather not touch my screen with a stylus.

The only gripe: Nokia PC Suite needs some improvements but for now, it'll do. Connecting to PC may take a while but am sure Nokia will find a fix. Overall, a great phone, an awesome PDA, with a beautiful web browser. Not sure why people hate this phone on this forum.

What is the obsession for a touch screen...I want as little contact with my screen as possible...

for the GPS question, you have to connect the phone via bluetooth to a GPS device...Nokia has one for about a couple hundred bucks...GPS is not built in the hardware of the phone though.

THERE IS NO UBER phone...it's a matter of what you want most in a phone's features...It kills me when people buy phones and gripe about features the phone never had in the first place

            i.e.
The E61 isn't touchscreen, it doesn't have windows 5.0, no GPS, no scrollwheel, etc....

that's like me buying a Ford Focus and saying...it doesn't have a V8, it is not luxurious, there is no navigation unit, where are the 22'' wheels???....etc.

            DUH!!!

            my rant is over....

              This phone is bad.
              Simple functions are missing.
              Bad keyboard.
              No touch screen
              Bad navigation menu
              It crashes often
              It's slow
Im taking it back to the shop!!
Stay away from it trust me.... I'm so sure a replacement will be out soon as the problems are just ridiculous.
Gonna go for a qtek 9100 or 9600!

                        Valid opinion...
I have used the BlackBerry for a while last year before I got frustrated with the actual fact that those phones really suck outside of the email capability.

In my case, I have 7 emails linked to my E61 the only two I really NEED the push for is my work and my two squirrel mail type accounts...The blackberry on T Mob Usa isn't fully supported so there is a delay in the push of about 1-5 minutes...I check all my hotmail, yahoo, gmail on wifi and Nokia browser anyway

If you download most apps to your memory card (i have 2 gigs SANDISK) then you don't lose much speed...also put the anti virus on Manual Scan...

Compared to Blackberry...I'll take E61 any day for software, wifi, realplayer, ability to have 2 gigs of memory

4-5 months from now, something else will probably come out better...till then....

As usual, before buying a phone I like to read this forum. Most times it works like this: from all messages you read here you extract these aspect you consider most relevant and balance it with your considerations. Next move is to actually go in the shop and see test the handset for yourself (there you will find someone simply interested in giving you something, no matter what, and surely no matter if it's what you need).

Nokia, as an exceptional taste for design and delivers outstanding looks and feel. It also refines its handset devices with any sorts of gadgets (these are mostly useful to nokia in order to fullfill market segments).

The main market segment for the E61 is messaging (and mainling, primarily), thus the aimed competitor is Blackberry.

So, here is the story. I happen to be a blackberry user for long long time. I loved and still use also other phones (one of the last i loved is a samsung P-300 -good companion of the bulky backberry for beeing small and clean-) but for messaging, so far, i couldn't see rivals.

Reading this forum I thought ... what the heck, i need to renew my subscription and handset anyway, so let's move from BB to the newer E61. Battery life was said to be good and everybody seemed just happy about it.

You see, if you're like me and use blackberry. If you are often on the the go and need a reliable always on device. But especialy if you hate slow mobile phones, and your goal is to read and send mail whenever possible, I am very sorry to let you know that this phone will not do for you as it didn't do for me. I tried the phone, despite resetting (?!) a couple of times in my hand, despite the fact that the claimed VoIP function is simply unusable (this was actually the main reason why i though the E61 was worth), despite the fact that is even more bulky and heavier than a Blackberry (put it in your back pocket).

                          It's simply slow.

Yes I admit, there is an improvement with the previous symbian based phones, but sorry, let's Nokia understand that filling devices with unwanted and unecessary stuff doesn't do any good to their attempt of recovering lost market.

The day I will have a decent model from Nokia, dedicated to messaging, I will be very happy and probably I'll buy it, so far I renewed my subscription and got a new BlackBerry 8707v. It does the thing just fine and sets my mind at easy, so I am glad of the choice so far.

You draw your conclusions yourself now, but with the E61 don't expect an easy switch from balckberry so far.

The Nokia E61 is so so so so awesome...

Big display, QWERTY, WIFI, Faster Processor...

                            Overall - Amazing Features..

Does it has office applications (excel, worl, ppt)? If so, has anyone tried using this application and how do you rate its performance as compared to other PDAs?

Purchased mine last week in HK while on business. My first Nokia in 4 years. Been a SE and Motorola fan since. Well all I can say is NICE NICE NICE! I have finaly found a total solution for my travel needs. UMTS/GPRS and WiFi all bundled in a great package which has been easy to configure and never fails. I have so reservation in recommending this solution for the heavy traveller who need to be connected at all times but wants more than what the Blackberry can offer (umts/wifi). This is the way to go for email/messaging while roaming all over.
