theres a lot of country which the nokia e71 was made HUNGARY,FINLAND,KOREA.... all of them are sure originals.. as long as you buy them on a reputable shop. it was o.k as long asit was sealed and the retail packege was complete. its fine you dont need to worry........... if you want to have a phone which all original. branded and DURABLE ,CHEAP, go to the Philippines, in san juan, manila... Greenhills Shopping Centre. ..... I'm a british i visit there for some vacation.... i love the place and the people were very hospitable.. i love filipinos...

Hey does anyone know if this unit can be uploaded with ovi maps also or just nokia maps. I am from the Philippines and here ovi maps is more accurate.

You must read the facilities given on the page by GSMArena rather than depend on my advice. I would advise you to buy an N95. Would you??? There is a provision of Comparing the phones. Do that and then look at your pocket too. Do what suits you best both from your needs and your pocket points of view.

Thanks for the info on OVI maps.
Incidently, Same can be achieved by opening this GSMArena page in your phone browser and clicking the link provided by Opeel in his comments below on 05-04-2010. And you get OVI maps directly on your phone. Ver3.03. And it seems fantastic as it has voice guidance what google maps is lacking.
In any case you must always have Nokia PCSuite on your PC. It has NSU (Nokia SW Updater) and Maps builtin.
And they both will use your GPS and GPRS to send receive data. Without GPS they will only give approximate location with the help of mobile communication towers while if the GPS is available, then they will give your exact location within 5 meters accuracy.

Today I have successfully updated my E71 Ovi map. The process is as follows:
1. Download and install Map Updater in your PC from Nokia site.
2. Download and install Map Loader also in your PC.
3. Install PC-suite in your PC.
4. Connect E71 to your PC in PC suit mode.
5. Open Map Updater and then automatic update of Ovi Map 3.0 will start (if PC is connected to Internet)
6. After installation of update open Map loader in your PC in PC-suite mode.
7. Load the desired map from the list.
This map is as good as google map. ut it will not use your GPRS connection for getting GPS connection where as google map always ask for GPRS/internet connection to initiate.

The one without X (normal one) will work int= the US but not in all states. Some states have different frequencies for which they have the x series.

free nokia maps on the e71, came first, i have downloaded the sis file installed ove v3.01 and works fine, kept all my fav's and voice. :-)

I dont think infrared is used much but this phone still has it which even Nokia E72 does not have. But once again, infrared is not used much.
I have it for 8 months now, and like it a lot.

This phone is a super phone. I bought this in a different country. I am in USA. I just came to know to use the 3G I have to have the phone that has the HSDPA frequencies of here while mines are 900/2100.
I still dont want to give this phone up. The second thought is to get another E71 or a new E72. E72 is something more like global.
In case you buy this phone, be sure where you are going to use it more.

hey guys i really liked this phone and i personally thinks nokia is the most trusted cellphone brand so i am less concerned about the life and disturbance of the phone but still i would want to know if there is any.I really need feedback from the ones who have used it for a long time please give me some feedback guys.....
