Farah Syakirah, 05 Oct 2009Why you said wifi not so popular in your country? Wifi doe... moreHi, Wifi has not been a primary source of communication. Reason is very simple. In Indonesia in Residential areas compared to 20% of population who use Wifi links at home, 80% is connected via regular broadband services.

Indonesians love to travel a lot. Friday evening till sunday night they are out of the city and hit toll roads. They are very well connected with their business while on the move through GPRS/3G/3,5G.

Its not that nobody uses wifi. You will find wifi accessible everywhere. But majority of Indonesian population still prefers 3G. Because it is instant, 24 hr service and accessible anywhere at anytime. Though compared to other countries it is expensive in Indonesia. Yet everybody uses it.

Yes educational institutions, cafes, Malls are well equipped with wifi service. But how long do you spent in these places. So the conclusion is 3G is more popular in Indonesia.

Have a nice day.

You mentioned in your first post South Afrika. Are you from this beautiful country. I have been there many times. Love Cape Town. Sad South Africa did not make it for finals in ICC Champions Trophy. Would have loved to watch them against Australia.

        Have a nice day.

I would like to add - wi fi have been around in Indonesia since 2000. But it never grew much and has not been opted as a primary source of connection.

Even Laptops today in Indonesia are equipped with HSDPA 3,5g and also wi fi.

Aniket, 03 Oct 2009How many countries have you visited buddy?? Wat heck knowle... moreHi Aniket, you are right, Indonesia only have hot spots / wi fi zone in malls, airport, cafes etc. Also it is available in certain commercial areas. But in residential areas we only have regular broadband.

In Indonesia, wi fi is not so popular. 3G is very common. India was too late and 3G was introduced only last year.

3G service was introduced in Korea in year 2002. But in Indonesia 3G became available in year 2003 (end of the year).

Unfortunately India was lagging in this area. I guess it was a political issue and Government of India had been postponing 3G till last year.

In Indonesia now we are in 3.5G which you measure in terms of HSDPA. Speed varies from operator to operator. Highest in Indonesia is 7.2 mbps. India is still in 384 kbps. If I am wrong please correct me.

Aniket, I believe you will update us regularly about the technological improvements happening in India. India is the country everybody wants to know about.

Keep in touch and keep writing. Have a nice day.
