Have been using this phone for almost a year now and like every other phone, it has its ups and downs. Please note that i use this as my secondary phone (nothing beats BB for me as a workhorse). I have used and using all kind of os and phones (i use 3 devices at any given time...lols) so i think i can compare it fairly with others. So here is my go on this phone:
PROS:
Camera: Will get you good picks even on auto settings but move your lazy arse a little and learn a bit about manual settings. Thats where this camera truly shines. you will be amazed what you can achieve with manual settings. also apps like refocus, panorama really give amazing results.
Screen: Ok, not very much by today standards, but amoled gives an edge to this over others. recently compared its screen with one of my friend's sony z1. Color reproduction and sun light readability are far better on 1020. Also comes with feather touch (means you can use it with gloves also). A true blessing fr ppl lik me living in Himalayas :-)
Build quality: Nokia has always been known for its tank like build quality and 1020 is no exception.
Earphone music quality: Im saying earphones coz speaker is normal. However plug in some good quality earphones and you will really enjoy your music. Also dolby enhances the clarity further.
OS updates: 1020 has been getting every update till date and it seem will continue to do so for at least 1-2 more years
CONS:
Battery: One of the biggest gripes of this phone. Though i dont use it as my primary phone but still have to recharge it at the end of the day (normal usage being max 1 hrs of talktime, 3-4 hrs if music and 10-12 shots per day). No internet, no videos, no wifi.
Shot to shot time: if you want to take the pic in an instant, forget it with this. 1020 takes at least 3-4 seconds to save a shot after being taken (808 was far better in this matter).
OS: This one is a mixed bag. If you are migrating from android you will be sourly disappointed. apart from lack of apps, the os is still a long way from anywhere close to ios (ios still rocks for the ease of use) or android (it dosent even have a data toggle switch in notification pane!!) If you are a ios or android user and thinking of getting this phone, chances are, camera will be the only up gradation for you and you will be loosing in all other departments. HOwever, there is almost no lag on the phone (except for camera app sometimes with panorama stitching)and contacts (people app) is one of the best i have ever used

I wonder when someone says they still get blurry photos even after the camera has OIS in it....Btw some photography Tip and homework will surely do the trick

when i click a picture using lumia camera nd see its preview in that only, the img looks clear and sharp but when i close the lumia camera and see the same img in photos it loses clarity nd becomes blurry(by a very small no.). does this happen with your lumia too?? plz help!

I was also a bit disappointed at first with my 808 pureview's camera. But I was blown away when I finally was able to utilize its features and not just rely on auto mode. It might be the same with your 1020. You need to take some time in learning the features and how to use the camera properly. And I hope you know already how a physical shutter button works in focusing shots. ;)

The screen of the 1020 is sharper, but the 830 has a removable battery and a micro-sd card slot. Besides, it has older hardware. But if you look for a phone for it's camera, in this case the 1020 is the one to have. Besides it will be upgraded to Windows 10 eventually next year so for that I would not worry to not get updates no more.

This phone is a huge disappointment
it overheats ,constantly. to the point where it can burn , especially on charge.
the battery drains when even on aeroplane mode, with wifi switched off and data by the second.
The camera Could be amazing but its hard to use, out of 10 photos 9 come out blury stabilized or not.
now either I got a dud or the phone sucks.
if anyone else had similar problems I'd be interested to know.

sue you , 19 Dec 2014dont worry it soon will be and believe me you will love it,... moreIt's rolling out on more and more devices in Europe already. Not yet the 1020 but then again, 2015 is not far away and in January MS will start out rolling the update to many more devices.
