Your phone has two memories - the internal Phone memory and the external memory card. When you update the firmware, all the data on your Phone memory will be lost, but nothing will happen to your data on the memory card. So it depends on where you stored your photos/mp3, etc. Contacts/Calendar/ToDo/Notes are typically in the phone memory.

Regardless of where your data is stored, doing the following will take care of preserving your data:

Before doing firmware update take backup of phone memory. There are two ways:

On your phone, go to Menu->Tools->Memory. Select Options->Backup phone mem.
This will create a backup of your phone memory on your memory card. Make sure you have around 45 MB free on your card just in case. Later after firmware update, go to this same menu and you'll find a "Restore" option. This will restore all your backup and everything will be just like before, except the bugs!

The other way is to use the Backup option in Nokia PC Suite. Click on "Backup" icon, select "Settings"and make sure "Include only phone memory in the backup" is selected. Select OK and then click on Backup button. This will backup your data on your PC. You can restore it to your phone after the firmware update from this same screen.

The second method is more reliable as it has been observed that the doing backup from the phone may not always be successful.

About the camera problem, most likely it will be solved by the new firmware.

You get a USB cable as part of the standard package for N73, and yes, you can use it as a 3G modem. However, there is no USB charging, so you'll have to keep your charger also connected, because using the phone as a modem drains the battery heavily.

Yes it is true that the gallery remains in memory even after you exit it. Install Best Taskman on your phone - it's a good task manager. Use it to close the Gallery application, it frees up a lot of memory. Also I have observed in my N73 that even the camera application remains running in memory after I close it. You can see it in Taskman.

I was in similar dilemma - N73 or N80. My suggestion to you is - buy N80 only if you REALLY need Wi-Fi and can't do without it. I bought N73 because I really didn't need Wi-Fi so much. In my country, WiFi is still very new, and will be taking a long time to be available everywhere. N73 is just AMAZING (except for the bugs, which will get fixed eventually with the firmware updates), the screen of N73 beats the screen of N80 hands down. No point in having double resolution screen in N80, when the physical size of the screen is same as that of 6630! I love the screen of N73. The speakers are also amazing - you'll love the 3d stereo effect. Also, you'll get advantages like Autofocus, Carl-Zeiss optics which are not there in N80. Much better photos. Only that the joystick is slippery, a little bit uncomfortable to use.

The network that cingular provide in USA is 800/900/1800/1900. Will N73 work in these networks?

hi guys, does this phone has usb cable that once connected to a laptop, you could use it as a 3G modem and at the same time auto-recharge from the same USB cable?

i'd read some reviews that the gallery can't be close. Is that true because that would slow down the performance. Can someone confirm it and if it's true what can be done

I was supposed to buy this phone (N73). But I ended up buying N91 instead cos I was attracted to it's stunning design, 3G & WLAN capabilities, and the 4GB. But I had one regret. It was late that the phone I bought was China-made N91-5. Never thought there was a big difference between a Finland-made N91-1 and the China-made. Mine has no 3G and WLAN. The latter which had been the decisive factor eventually. I just want to know if the N73 made in China has no 3G support like the N91-5.. They say that the law prohibits 3G and WLAN from incorporating into the phones so they make their own versions. After all, I don't have regrets anymore with N91-5. No need to upgrade either even if I'm currently using one of the oldest SW. My phone's responses are fast, doesn't freeze anymore even if I do a lot of multitasking. I'm beginning to love my N91 even though it's not having 3G and Wi-Fi is such a big handicap. Peace. Thanks.

I bought this mobile 2 months back. Camera quality is too good. This mobile have some problems in softwares, can't attend the calls, if call comes mobile automatically restarting. I given to nokia care center they can't rectified. No value for Money

I think the N73 Music Edition is not yet available in Saudi Arabia. The only available Music Edition so far in Saudi Arabia is N70 Music Edition with a black color as well.
