AnonD-133243, 07 Oct 2013Hey MdN and Carol, i did some hard reset and format to my n... moreHey, i think i already told you what is the fix for your problem, or? I don't remember if it was you or somebody else. If you did a hardformat (the 3 button method), then you can full recover your system only by flashing. The drivers you are talking about have nothing to do with the system. They are only for connection, synchronizing data between your pc and your device, gives the possibility to read, view or modify your phone data through you PC. So, after the things you told us, what happened to your device is a bit funny. Normally there is no way your phone downgrades from belle refresh to Symbian belle. Very strange stuff. Also, this problem has something to do with your product code, you can change that to, but that's another long story. So, you need to decide firs what you want to do:)

Hey MdN and Carol, i did some hard reset and format to my n8 and now i realize sth is missing there, like drivers that automatically install when newly connect to a pc, etc. Do you think i may find these again? My n8 got back to belle first version from belle refresh, and is not finding the 'refresh' anymore, and i think it's due to lack of those files.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2013Might just limit myself to a feature phone (nokia 515) + ta... moreI'm thinking similar. A feature phone plus a "real" camera, and maybe a tablet for surfing at home. I saved for the N8 and got it because I trusted Nokia (no more) for the updates, but I don't trust Google, Apple or Microsoft and can't afford an Android flagship just to get a camera as good as N8 and a bunch of things I'll probably try once and never use again. I even hesitated in getting a smartphone like N8 because I know myself, if I get one I'll have to test every app, set all the features and settings to my preferences, put every icon where I want it to be, waste time on cleaning, improving, updating, surfing the internet, checking my accounts when taking a break outdoors instead of looking around, and not having a life. :-) Only lately I stopped improving it and just keep on normally using it, only updating apps when there's an update available. Things are way more relaxed with a feature phone.
I had an Xperia Z1 in my hands today, it just leaves me cold. Nothing exciting. It's just a phone...

MdN, 04 Oct 2013Thanks for „support until 2016” Nokia. Liars. :-(Might just limit myself to a feature phone (nokia 515) + tablet/hybrid combo (google nexus/microsoft surface, whoever is less evil) in the future. Getting sick of smartphones. And this US-centric tech landscape.

Anna, 04 Oct 2013So happy to see you up and running again! Seems like you ar... moreI'm just "up and running" to keep my mind away from gloomy thoughts and some hard work today (but it's done). :-) Nope, not a machine, I'm an artist after all, but for example the person causing one part of this was a bit machine-like. Wasted time thinking there might be something special and trying to get closer only to realize that she doesn't even know how to turn off Bluetooth on her phone and it's been "on" for a year. Oh well. Enough soap opera stuff. If any desperate women are reading this you can find me on OKCupid, just use "Symbian" and "black metal" as search keywords, haha.
In other news, I discovered QuickApp, just what I needed. So now, when my phone is locked, a long press on the camera button launches the camera (using QuickCam), and long press on the menu button launches CameraPro. Both with the same "beep" sound. Yay! It can launch any other app you choose (and one more via double press) but I wanted it just for this one. Took some nice sunset photos today too. There's also a new app called "Double Waves" out which enables you to unlock the phone or answer a call by waving in front of the proximity sensor twice. It can even activate the speakerphone. Good for when you're using gloves, I guess.
A bit sad about the Nokia Store news. Just... disappointed. There will still be new apps just not in the Store, and if some internet website changes something there will be no more updates, for example the Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, RSS apps... if anything changes about the way they have to access the data on the internet people won't be able to get updates and continue using the apps. I mostly just use Opera Mini, and UC Browser isn't too bad and it gets updates downloadable right from their website, but still... Don't know. I played with a Galaxy S3 yesterday, it's not bad, easy to figure out, the camera is OK (though the photo quality is not as exciting as on N8) but the price is awful. I suppose I could get used to Android some day in the future. I'm definitely not getting a Lumia now, they could discontinue the support out of the blue just like they did here. But here's to tomorrow, if all goes well I'm getting one more wrist strap for my N8. :-D

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2013Hey N8 users, m from India & its around an year i m usi... moreYeah! Go ahead, close your eyes and recommend it unreservedly. Don’t forget to tell your friend that it is built like an Abrams tank, aluminium body and all. It can plow through its competitors with ease and leave them all lying by the wayside as it charges up the hill.
