The version of quick office is just the app for symbian^1, as you can see it still has the double trap annoyance, but its just a better of time, I'm sure office with multi touch and better UI will be absolve soon, and for your information most android devices ships with the same quick office product, but when you see the usability of them you can be quite sure that there will be a better app soon available. Quick office debuted in symbian and they simply can't avoid it. The fact that quick office is not functional at the moment doesn't man that N8 is bad our crap.

I don't know why people do like Nokia N8 so much. My wife recently had a gift of Samsung S8500 Wave. I discovered this phone having super AMOLED display technically much superior as compared to Nokia N8 having AMOLED display. The HD video shot with this samsung phone is a lot more crisp, stable, well lit than Nokia N8. In complete darkness, I shot very crisp, beautifully balanced color videos with this Samsung phone as it has a video light option as well, disappointingly no video light option is there in Nokia N8. The frame rate is almost exactly 30 in the said samsung phone as compared with slightly less than 25 for Nokia N8. I analyzed a lot of videos of Nokia N8 and always got disappointed to see blurry videos. In low light with no video light, the videos are even more disappointing. The processor speed of this Samsung phone is 1GHz, as compered with slower 680MHz processor.
And comparing the price, Samsung S8500 Wave is available in Pakistan for $345 and Nokia N8 price is $560, a huge difference. I think Nokia company has hired some professional people, probaly from the fields of showbiz, film, photography, to project their Nokia N8 so that people attract to buy this rubbish phone instead going for a lot lot better Samsung phones.

I bought this piece of crap at $ 525. I am a telecom Engineer and work for Nokia sister company in charge of networks(Nokia- Siemens)I travel alot and use my phones heavily. Office is very poor and always frustrates me when i get work related doc. I wish i had purchased a different type of phone. Its good for multi-media purposes but lags behind on bussiness issues.
If you are a college student with money to spare buy it, but a serious guy wait for E7. Hope it will sort us out. For all those spending good time writting how great the phone over other models, first its great as far as your usage is concerned. Remember apart from the basic phone functions other features are added to suit different people. A radio and fm transmitter may be great for you but absolutely irrelevant to me as i may never use them.

Radio waves can be subjected to interference and what you say may be a limitation of the hardware, I found several other user complaining the same about fm transmitter. I hope my comments about usb on the go was useful to you at least.

Ooh, and the car's signal is so strong that I can use my phone from 10-12m away and it would still work

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2010dont risk also spending money on a product that have antenn... moreyup XD,
i bought 3 N8s, all working fine so far
the n8 sold thousands and thousands... the majority of people wont bother themselves, and take it open themselves to come here and post that their n8 are rock solid, and working beautifully...
but those minority that faced problems will for sure come here and express their concerns... its only natural..
if "many" units were indeed defected u will see HUNDREDS of posts by people claiming their devices are broken..
this reflects that, bugged devices are very rare...
if you're an over average mobile user(or computer user), the N8 is one of the best smart phones out there atm for you. probably the best all around featured one..
if you want a very simple phone, but good for email/browsing.. go iphone(altho its stupidly overpriced, basically a ripoff)..
most of android devices are good..
Wave if a great phone too..
but the N8 tops them all, from my view point.

hspa+, 19 Dec 2010does nokia n8 play flac audio files?I tried testing a sample file and default music player didn't recognize it and the file manager threw an error "format not supported". By default N8 didn't recognize flac audio codec, but it may be possible to find a 3rd party solution. Honestly speaking since this is the first time i hear about the codec and i don't have a need i didn't try to find an app.

jos, 19 Dec 2010hello guys, what about the new release, it suposse to be re... moreI never heard Nokia announcing a date for the new firmware. What all they said was first major Symbian update will be aired by the Q1 of 2011. All the rest are just speculations. Nokia has only promised a browser update together with 50 other un specified upgrades. No word on Keyboard for the moment. The UI upgrade is promised for Q2 of 2011. We can expect the first update by the end of January or early February just before or soon after the E7 shipments. E7 is expected to shipped with improved Symbian experience.

I'm not sure about blackberry though, if it has a mass storage mode, where u can plug it to the computer just like a pen drive and the format is happened to be fat32 then N8 should recognize it. For the moment USB on the go supports only up to 16GB mass memories and Fat32 file systems. It cant recognize NTFS or the Linux formats. I'm not sure about your comment in FM transmitter

Hi, I'm from South Africa...
I wonder whethr some small points of the phone have been voiced eg.
Did u know the phone has a charging light
Did u know my phone came with a in-car charger
The fact that the phone has a dedicated micro-phone for videos and one for the normal calling.
It has an 'old-skul' lanyard eyelet
*where can I download the Plug and Touch app???*
oh and the worst thing Nokia did to this phone is putting the speaker BEHIND the phone!
Oh and the USB OTG feature is real choosy. I wouldn't accept my dad's blackberry 8900 and my friend's X3 but allows the 5800, 5230, etc.
FM transmitter plays sweetly in the car but in my room, it is realy REALY sensitive
Symbian ^1 got overhauled!!!
