I'm looking for a symbian 3 phone. How does this compare to nokia 701 performance (not the camera)? 808 is too expensive.

I don't jump into trends. Used a 3230 during touchscreen era and n78 during symbian 3 era.

Guys, you are all aware that this is an old phone so your only choice is other peoples' cfw. If you are worried about the lack of apps, just get a mini tablet from the competition. Nokia and an ipod/android tab is cheaper than an iphone.

Hi N8 users, i am the proud owner of this legendary smartphone. But now as We all know, MS has takenover Nokia, So now m worried about the latest symbian update which was to come probably til end of this year, according to an article on the net. It said that belle refresh is not the last update for symbian cells. But now, nothing can be done except waiting & hoping for the best.

Today i was thinking about what can i get when my Lovely N8 needs to retire and started to panic. There is nothing that can replace a Nokia phone. The only one to get close to it in my thoughts was the new Blackberry. Still, they have no good camera and the latest model which i loved before i touched it (cause after i touched it was just to darn light for me, i need some heaviness in there, otherwise it feels to cheap) has gone to fast out of my head. Though i'm thinking about next models to come, if they can survive in this mediocre world. There is Sony, but they use that crappy android, if they could use meego/jolla sailfish i would probably go for them instead of blackberry. But right now ex. Nokia mobiles are kind of out of my head. What a waste, SAD. Still can't believe how quickly everything changed into dust. I always thought that abandoning Symbian smartphones was a bad omen, but never expected such a bad thing to happen. Never expected Nokia will sell it's soul only after couple of mounts after Symbian division was entirely killed.

AnonD-129768, 05 Sep 2013Hie Carol and MDN day before yesterday I heard that Microso... moreHi Awez,

Yes, it was a sad day... sad week for everyone who has/had a Nokia. I was a little interested in Lumia because it was still Nokia, but not any more. Now MS will be making ALL decisions and Nokia people will have to listen or find another job. They say MS will have to cut some costs and I'm afraid a lot of the Nokia people will have to go. I would still buy an S40 phone, though, they still have the Nokia spirit and S40 is now almost as good as old S60v3 - except multitasking. But my X2-00 has some small features that my E51 doesn't. Of course, my N8 has all the features all my old phones had together, and then more. I was just looking at the new Xiaomi, it looks a little like a Lumia with Symbian inside. But it's still Android under the lovely theme.

It does feel like a part of my life ended. Of course, they killed Symbian even before, but I bought the N8 anyway. I would still buy it again today. I bought my first mobile phone in 2000, and started following, reading about them, buying magazines (they no longer exist), talking about them (I have a relative who repairs phones for a living) and I had Ericsson, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and a Siemens (I didn't like it). And a Samsung D900i which has some horrible mistakes in the software but people still bought it like crazy. With my old flip Motorolas it was like I can do all I need, the same with Nokia, and SE feature phones were OK too. But all of those brands are gone now. Or they aren't what they were before. So, when Ericsson had gone, when Motorola was sold, I was sad but OK, we still have Nokia, they are still there... Then, no more Symbian. And now there is no more Nokia. The last from the good "old school" is gone. It's over.

I wish I knew how to create apps or games but OK, I have enough for my needs. More than 100 apps, and some people with other phones buy a phone because it's "the best" and only use it for calls. Also I care about how my phone looks so I learned how to edit Symbian and S40 themes, change icons, fix bugs, I uploaded some of them on Zedge and now I have 750000 downloads. In maybe 18 months. For a "dead" platform.

Thank you for the kind words too, I bookmarked this page and when I'm online I sometimes check if anyone needs help. Everyone who sticks with Symbian in 2013 and further deserves respect and help. Respect because they didn't buy a "singing and dancing" spy phone hyped by the media and they know what they want, and help because everyone knows something. Carol is the man here, I have very little experience with some of the things he replies to, but I can jump in if it's something I know. My phone has some scratches too, but it's not a problem. I bought it like that. I usually had cheaper phones but I had some extra money, saved some more, here and there, and decided to buy a better phone to make myself happy. So I was looking at the ads, and realized I can buy a 5 megapixel phone... then prices started falling and I saved some more... Wow, I can buy an 8 megapixel phone. Then one day I realized... WOW, I could buy a NOKIA N8 if I wanted to! And I did. :-) I followed the N8 story since it was announced, read the reviews, downloaded the sample photos, read the interviews with Damian Dinning, then the reviews... it was a dream phone until the 808 came. Then I had two dream phones. And one of them I could afford. I still remember the first time I saw it live, I just forgot about all the other shiny phones in the shop thinking "oh, wow, I saw the N8, but, the price, nooo..." then I tried some Androids and iPhones. When I put them down I don't miss them. But after I tried one N8 for 5 minutes I couldn't forget it.

OK, enough for now. I feel like I wrote too much, but hey, tomorrow will be 6 months after I bought my N8. And it feels like it was yesterday. :-)

p.s. Today I was reading how Nokia and Microsoft negotiated. At one moment there was a scream from the room when Steve Ballmer fell and knocked his head on the table, hahaha.

The battery is like any other smartphone, 1 day heavy use or 2-3 days normal use... As for games, you can go to Nokia Store on your PC, select N8 as your phone and see what is available. The games you named don't exist for Symbian but a lot of other games do. Skype is supported, and a lot of other apps, but some are missing. It depends on your needs. If you have other questions, you're welcome to ask.

Stupid me, 03 Sep 2013MdN OK, seems I’ve been using only the on-screen shutter a... more:-) Well the shutter button is still useful, there's an app called QuickCam that makes it possible to start the camera even when the phone is locked. 2 seconds and ready to shoot. Also it has a half-press to focus and full press to snap, so you can focus on something, reframe and take a photo with the focus on something that's not in the middle of the picture. Try that some time. ;-)
Argh, stupid iLivid. No idea what it is, but I've seen it enough times. Try looking for Harald Meyer CameraPro 3.4.6 or 3.4.5 on Google, but be careful NOT to get the 808/PureView version, that one won't work on N8 any more (there used to be one version for all). Just install it and start learning how to use it slowly, I had it for a few weeks before I started seriously using it. I can help you with the set up etc.

Hey people. Apparently nokia sold it's soul to microsoft officialy today. (so Elop ended up doing what all people suspected beaides me, cause i was convinced it is not true). So for me, this will probably be my last Nokia device. Unfortunatly there are to few options, there will be a very hard day when my n8 needs to retire. Keep Symbian alive. Right now i wish an 808 so i can have a few years more with real Nokia and real system. Nokia just destroyed it self. Really sad.
