Stupid me, 08 Sep 2013EXCELLENT! There is such a song in my heart today – to see ... moreWoo-hoo, nice to have you back! Yes, Nokia is dead - long live the N8. I'm surprised with the amount of comments, and just when I think I should take a break as I don't want my comments to take up the whole page, a new one appears. The daily interest is lower, but maybe it's because there's no more "related phones" option (come on, GSMArena, I was using it...). So, after a few emotional days, little sleep and with gloomy clouds in my head even today, I went on and finally uploaded some more music to my phone, some 220 tracks, only my favorite songs. That's a beginning. Now I'm thinking of changing my wrist strap to something else... I have a finger strap, a better finger strap and a carabiner-type thing. Got them all as a present but there's a problem in that they all have the Samsung logo. :-/
Don't worry, we'll come to the theme subject soon enough. It took me a while to learn some things about modding them by trial/error but to Nokia's credit nothing I did harmed any of my phones... Yet. :-) Anyway, you can install any theme on your phone, it will change all the elements but of course their position will stay the same. And if it's a good one it will change most of the icons too, and I like that as a lot of apps don't have the Anna/Belle icons. The one I'm using now (Fascination by IND190) is just perfect from every angle, and with a new wallpaper it's unique and just mine. Heh, relatives. One of mine was trying to make me buy an Android instead and even gave me one to try for a few days, but in the end I got the N8 which I only tried for a few minutes. One of the things I was impressed with was the haptic feedback (obviously the first thing you notice when you tap on anything) which I'm still using and loving. The same thing on Android is a joke (just a "bzzzz"), and iPhone and Lumia don't even have it. Like touching a dead thing. So... Hope you had a nice trip and see you around. ;-)

EXCELLENT! There is such a song in my heart today – to see everybody back on track after the week’s revelations and sadness over the demise of Nokia and of course the N8 and whatever. We will make our choices now, with the understanding that there is no more Nokia - but the N8 lives on!!! Cheers to that!
We do have to move on, that is life. You will truly live in my heart, ALL of you. What a group! Keep up the good work advising N8 fans and THANKS for all the help and encouragement. You know, a beloved relative (pretty knowledgeable about electronics etc and way above my head) once advised me against buying the N8 when I was looking at which touch phone I should buy. He did not think I could manage Symbian and steered me to other easier systems. Imagine that!!! But I was determined that I wanted the N8 and he was shocked that I still went ahead and bought it. Yeah! At one point I thought maybe I made the wrong choice, but I soon overcame that.
Carol, your knowledge of electronics is so extensive, it is mind-boggling. I always enjoyed an encounter with a sharp, logical, and practical mind although I didn’t always come out the better for it. But that’s OK. You must be tops in whatever field you’re in, I am sure! With this new development, I am rethinking the Belle upgrade since more apps will be available with Belle and I've got to pack them in. Hope I don’t encounter any problems.
MdN, it seems you are doing a FABULOUS job with the themes, what with over 700,000 downloads in eighteen months. That’s IMPRESSIVE! It must be real technical and require creativity to modify existing ones and create something different and attractive that so many people liked and downloaded. Sorry I did not get a chance to see them. Maybe one day I will ask you to help me pick out a really nice one for my phone - as soon as can figure out about it. Oh dear, that may be never because I don’t know a darn thing about it. Hm! I would have enjoyed shocking my relative :-). I was so mad at him recently but that’s now in the past and when I spoke with him yesterday, he already knew about the Nokia sellout! There is one other person I would have liked to mention, but I’d better not.
Yes, I will continue with the SAGA of the N8 however I am able and GOOD LUCK to all of you and stay as sweet as you are.

Carol, 07 Sep 2013Nothing will be changed in your phone. So everything you do... moreThanks for your reply. Seems to me then, I had better grab whatever I can get from the store now since I am not sure what will be available in the future. It's a relief to know that the N8 will continue to serve me because I have NO intentions of replacing it if it is fully functional. Good to know that whatever I put in it will continue to work until it dies of natural causes - that's enough for me.

Carol, 07 Sep 2013Nothing will be changed in your phone. So everything you do... moreI'm hoping the Store will stay because they still need it for S40, but I don't hope for many updates. Recently they started allowing new themes only from a few selected makers and the rest got a 'goodbye' email.
Maps... Steve from AllAboutSymbian said he plans to make a map database to put on his website, and invited people to send him maps from their phones/countries, but so far it's just an idea. But if the maps are some day no longer officially available from Nokia - at least it's a plan.

Maybe store will be shut down at some point. That i don't know, so you will need to have allot of cracked apps. As for maps, this is a thing i always wandered, if i bought a phone with life time maps free updates, but now Nokia is no more, who will give a ... about us and our symbian's? This a question Nokia has to answer. Anyway, i don't think i will be having my n8 till 2016...

i just love n8, i m using nokia since 2002 and its very sad they killed symbian. And if the nokia bosses have brains they should have opt for android and not windows. Nokia with symbian was the best. But now its all over guys....love nokia love symbian..... :(

This Nokia N8 will be my last Nokia, as the things I need are unavailable on Nokia's now.
I can't get any BBC I-Players to work on my Nokia N-8, or any of the applications I need.
I think they made a big mistake going with Microsoft, & an even bigger mistake not using the Android Platform.
I tried Windows 8 on a PC, it was as bad as Vista, which was also crap.

Funny enough, I just found out used n8 are nearly as cheap as the other symbian 3 phones. Hehe.
Too bad mobilefun's N8 case with a built in charger is discontinued. Would have been a huge help.

They stopped making it even before this move, but there is still support until 2016, Nokia Store, various websites etc. Symbian is maintained by a company called Accenture which isn't owned by Nokia or Microsoft. There will be not many new apps or big updates, but if you really like this phone get it while you still can.

mykrosop mapet, 06 Sep 2013I'm looking for a symbian 3 phone. How does this compare to... moreThere is a comparison between N8 and 701 a few pages down. Generally the 701 is more modern (Belle Fp2), faster (processor and RAM), brighter display (better in sunlight), has removable battery and dual LED which can be used as a torch. But the camera is worse, some small features are different and it looks more like a woman's phone. :-) I don't jump into trends either, this is my first touch screen and I got it 6 months ago. A couple of years ago I was still using a flip phone, and I was happy with it. :-)

So much doom and gloom and morose thoughts – and Pain. I feel as if I've lost a beloved, trusted, sturdy, reliable and capable friend. That is what the N8 is to me and it really pains because it is not like losing your car keys because you always have a spare for that. Why did Nokia have to do this terrible thing? With one stroke of the pen it has brought so much depression to N8 fans, so much uncertainty about its replacement. But not to worry, when one door closes, another opens. The competition will be so stiff among the giants that I think soon, there will be so many new models to choose from, it will have us dizzy.
Since Wednesday when I read about the deal between Nokia and MS, I think I’ve lost ten pounds worrying what will happen to the contents of my phone. Will all the apps go dead when they finally pull the plug off from the life support system, supposedly in 2016? Anyone can tell me what will happen? Is it that I will be able to only make calls and texts on my N8? Because I would not like to know that I should have just remained with my old 6230i. I think that well, at least the camera will be fully functional
