Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010Actually, I am thinking if map application just sucks and m... moreActually it has just launched in my country at the start of this month. I'm from South Africa. Seems i'm the only one currently with this prob. My friend has his and no probs so far. Unlucky me. To think i convinced him to get one and i get the faulty device!! Nevermind. I love this phone too much now. I used it on its own. No other apps were open. I thought about that but it seems it must be something else. As you said, maybe a faulty gps unit or something. Everything else just works! By the way, i tried multitasking with like 19 apps open at once and it still did lag or freeze! However when i opened the 20th it automatically closed some. I had both browsers open too on the heaviest pages too with NFS also open! So i dont think having some apps open would really hinder the gps but just for clarity with just the gps open on its own it still shutdown on many occasions. The prob i have is that you guys (including you) dont have that prob. If i had updated the ovi maps to 3.06 they would have not even considered given me a new phone cos it is a beta version. Yes it is to try and test but if there are probs from installing it even if the new version wasn't the root cause then your warranty would become null and void. It states this in the clauses on the betalabs site. Anyway i have backed up what i had so just to install in the new phone.

Engineer Man, 13 Nov 2010I will be trying the C7 if it arrives in 6 days. Then I may... moreThe USER internal memory of 350MB for the C7 against N8's 135MB, at some point made me change my mind about N8's potential as compared to C7 in handling apps, but symbian 3 OS utilises the mem very well and the new update is going to make it very snappy. Infact there's a Hacked update and i understand it makes it very snappy, no shity restarts. Generaly i don't think that there will be any significant differnce in performance.

Actually, I am thinking if map application just sucks and makes the phone freeze. Where are you from? Does the dealer tell if any other unit has similar problem. It is also possible the GPS chip is faulty. Everything is possible but have to figure it out.

GPS works really fine, smoothly and fast for me. I live in Finland. I also used in Estonia recently. It helped a lot when traveling in the city of Tallinn.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010have you touch a wave, or even fiddling around with it's UI... moreOh yeah, its the Broadcom BCM2727.

And if you still dont believe me about the N8 performance, here is the gl benchmarks test results (cant find for samsung wave, so i compared the N8 with Iphone4, Galaxy S and Desire)

Even with lower specs compared to the other phones, the N8 still manages to catch up and even beat the other phones in certain aspects.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010have you touch a wave, or even fiddling around with it's UI... moreI did own a wave before the N8.
and yes,the touch response was good. at the same time, a lot of games like NFS shift and Kroll crashed and heated up the cpu quite a lot. though it was a brilliant phone, i still find the nokia N8 better.

the silly themes(hardly a few), low battery life is email exchange is used were a big turn off for me.
                    not to mention crappy apps.

The N8 is NOT a revolution. But, as GSMArena said, it is Evolution.
Everyone can feel at home. Functionality is super. Hardware is Brilliant.
Also, Hhe processor is 680MHz, ( As good as 700 MHz) and the Desire Z has 800 MHz. Funny nobody is complaining there.

Also, the samsung wave with a 1 GHZ processor is simply Stupid. i never saw it use more than 40 - 50 % of its CPU.
The Choke point on the samsung wave is its RAM, which SAMSUNG, for some reason, do not officially disclose. it could be 384 or 256 MB. GAWD knows !!!

Nokia is not limited by hardware, because its GPU is powerful enough to handle anything.
AND FYI, while playing games,GPU is far more important than CPU.
an i7 proc with a shitty graphic card will do worse on high end games than a Core 2 Duo with a High end Graphic card !!!!
And wave is a mass market phone. N8 is for everyone.
The sales figures are limited by supply constraints, but just keep looking, Nokia is on its way up, and HOW !!!

On every occasion i open it, it worked fine but just froze after a couple of minutes and then just restarts. I went to the dealer the 1st time and it didnt do it! As soon as i walked out it froze :( Anyway i took it in now and they will give me a new one on Tuesday. I love this phone. I am not fazed by this. Everything just works perfectly. I even took my 5800 tv cable and connected....and it worked like a charm. Played NFS and it was awesome!! No lags, no freezing, hanging etc. Pics are superb. Browser is superb for me. I dont know whats the fuss about but it can get better and by the way it is pretty quick too. My phone just had a glitch and thats that. I didnt install any s60 apps and just the 3 hd games and music from ovi with my 6 months unlimited. I wonder when i get the new phone if i'd get another 6!! Lol. I'm sure it wont work cos i cant have 2 running on the same number so i'll just load it on my other number!!

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010have you touch a wave, or even fiddling around with it's UI... moreDude, dude, dude, hold ur horses

                        Read my question again

"Ok then, can you tell me anything that the Bada OS can do but the Symbian^3 OS can't?"

I specifically asked of what the Bada OS can do but the Symbian^3 cant? i'm not asking you to compare wave and the n8.

UI is a subjective matter, it depends on the persons taste, some may like Bada OS, others will prefer symbian OS.

About hardware, you cant just look at the processor power and jump to a conclusion. No no no. If you had an n8 you will find that the games are smooth on the N8 and are well optimized for the Symbian^3 platform. Sure the Iphone4 version of the games are slightly more detailed, but what matters is the game play is still there and its playable. Whats more, Symbian can utilize virtual RAM and its built in GPU, and the N8 GPU is one of the best ever (i forgot the name of the GPU, but it starts with a 'B')

Now back to the question, what can Bada OS do that Symbian^3 can't?

snonre, 13 Nov 2010Ok then, can you tell me anything that the Bada OS can do b... morehave you touch a wave, or even fiddling around with it's UI? once you experience wave's UI, you can answer ur own question already.

i'm not a troll, and i don't own N8 but i do have wave and i had been acquainted to an N8 demo, sure it's responsive but not par with the top notch touch phones..

at my end i know what i want in wave that N8 doesn't have, pleasing fast UI experience comparable to Iphone "4" could offer. And in terms of games we have to accept the fact the hardware capabilities of both, wave has arm cortex 8 1gzh and GPU comparable to iphone 4 and galaxy S and N8 has that, it may be non power hungry for N8 but that's also shows it's limitation. you can't expect a game rig PC that will only consume 20 watt "like a laptop", it needs power in order to deliver real power also.

if your gonna say symbian is optimized at lower specs, then why can't it deliver same speed to wave.

There is no divx,mp4 or 3gp player apps on this phone, just click on video apps and it will play any supported video. And most of user who face switching or restarting problem is because they install unsupported apps for n8,yes nokia has said that s^1 apps is workin on any s^3 phone, but they forget to tell us (or perhaps didn't know) it will cause some problem to the phone.

much improvement in os stablity and and capabilty about symbian 3

nokia did not work hard on symbian 1 which is really immature

want to see euro 700 symbian phone from nokia next year

nokia nokia dont care so much about the price of their next flagshipbecause n8 is already devcent to compete with its ompetitors

                                      my advice to n8 users

                                      hard reset n8, usung *#7370#
install only google maps, joikuspot , angry birds, spb tv, sports tracker, swype,

and wait for next upcoming n8 firmware update, new ovi maps, new ovi browser, new nopkia interent radio,

if you are adventurous person, try out umplayer made by chinese developers which is capable to play high resolutuion rmvb smoothly

need more chinese character writing pleasant experince, try out baidu input whioch let you handwrite chinese characters in full phone screen, i love it, btw it works flawlessly

finally, just wish more decent app choice to come, or you can contribute to symbian by just going to apps or games developer forum to ask them for symbian version of their apps
