If you use Symbian^3 before, it's pretty much the same as S60v5 except they polished it and changed some layouts.

The "Widgets" are not practical, I don't know what they were thinking.

Some of their folders are shown as icons... sometimes you can't tell which are folders and which are applications itself.

As for the on-screen qwerty keyboard... they should have made qwerty for portrait mode as well.

They should have input more power into the N8 not because of the light OS, but for web browsing.

It's not that Symbian's appeal is affecting the users, it's the practicality and intuitiveness that makes the OS great.

      I bought a n8 & I tested it's touchscreen responsiveness & ui fastness with my already bought galaxy s.
In n8 sometimes touchscreen don't register touches & ui responds late after the screen has been touched.
But in galaxy s touch anything from any way it will 100% register the touch & ui moves along with the touch, even faster than iphone 4.
Camera is much better in n8 as it's 12mpx compared to 5mpx in galaxy s but video rec. is much better in galaxy s giving superior results to n8 .
In galaxy s there hasn't been a hanging or restarting issue in 3 months of use while in n8 it's been just 9 days & it's already giving me serious restarting issues.
It seems that n8 isn't fully baked.
Screen of galaxy s is much superior than n8. Pixel density is just great in galaxy s while n8 cries for pixel density.
Super amoled screen of galaxy s looks super great as compared to amoled screen of n8.
There is also a serious issue with n8 camera as it can't handle moving objects or little shake properly & spoils the image quality. Even the cheap budget cameraphones can handle a shake.
Gaming is much better in galaxy s as it is equipped with best gpu ever.
And galaxy s is much slimmer than n8.
Browser is uncomparable in galaxy s as after the 2.2 update my galaxy s is running full adobe flash player 10.1 while browser in n8 is the same old slow & lagging without full flash support.
My galaxy s also supports DIRECT WI-FI (a future technology which will end the era of old bluetooth) while n8 don't support it.
And the biggest problem in n8 is it's same old pathetic symbian while android is out of this world !!!

Seems like you have been using android for quite some time, an android user might not find the symbian OS appealing, same goes with a symbian os user towards android os.

There are some things android can do better than symbian os but then again there are some things symbian os can do better. Me? Im comfortable with symbian os and i dont plan to change anytime soon

If NOKIA do not release upgrade for symbian3 and FW for N8 they gonna lose many people incl me !!!So far many lacks bugs, not smooth at all!!!UI too complicated, takes much more time to get where you like to go compare to other OS.

The N8 does not have Ovi preinstalled!

When you go to the app store for the first time, you go to a website which then asks you to install Ovi.

This process takes ages. Well… 2 minutes. See for yourself in the video.

Why Nokia? Why? Why not just pre-install Ovi? Would it really be that hard for your teams to talk to each other?

Oh, and while you’re at it, sort out the install process. When the bar reaches the end - that means the install is done. It shouldn’t mean I have to scratch my ass for another few minutes.

While I’ve got your attention - why don’t those animated gifs rotate smoothly? What’s wwwwwwwwwith the judddddddddddddddddder?

FYI - here’s how it works on Android. Click on Market - Market launches.

Pretty much the same on iPhone and BlackBerry. You guys should totally buy one of your competitors’ devices. They have this thing called “out of the box experience”. It rocks.

                      My thought process…

                      1) Hey! There’s a WebTV icon taking up valuable screen space. I bet there’s something really amazing in there….

                      2) I… uh… oh… What? A single icon? No cool stuff for me? Why not just take me into Ovi rather than pushing another icon? Oh well… at least I’ve already installed Ovi. I can just click on the Ovi icon and go straight to the Ovi marketplace I already downloaded. Right?

                      3) Kill. Me. Now. Despite having already installed Ovi - this piece of stainless steel encrusted excrement has taken me to the web and wants me to download it again? Ah… no… it says I should download it again. But it automatically opens the Ovi store. I hope this is worth it.

                      4) This is literally the most depressing thing I’ve seen. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Erotic Bollywood. I bet people from / in India are well chuffed to see India Today on there. What else is there? Hmmm… a 1 star rated “Gazzetta”. Something called “E!” which is apparently a utility. Or I can pay 4GBP for a cartoon.

                      No.

No. I simply don’t believe that this is what I am being offered. I refuse to believe that Nokia are this cack-handed. I’ve obviously got a defective unit with a defective Ovi store. That is litterally the only explanation that makes sense. Who in their right mind at Nokia would have approved this? An icon that leads to another icon that leads to a web page that leads to a store with only 5 items in it?

Are Nokia playing a practical joke on me? IT’S NOT FUNNY GUYS!

Why we Finns are buying more iPhones than ever!

I can understand your frustration fully. Ive used Nokia since day one and worked with this business since 1988. Since that Ive had Sony, Ericsson, Sharp, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and iPhone mobiles and more or less Nokia has always been the best. However, for some reason few years ago, Nokia models started to have strange problems and bad quality issues. The phones got more complicated to use, errors occurred and silly software designs finally did the thing and I changed to iPhone. I had N95 as one of my latest models and it wasnt working for a single day during my sim locked contract as it should.

Before anybody says that iPhone is not a phone, I say it myself. It sure isnt working as good as Nokia, but on the other hand, its doing its job in general 10x better than Nokia does. For the first time I can really use google on my phone, browse the internet without waiting for minutes to get connected or use the navigation now and not after some 10 minutes Nokia has finally connected to GPS. What is the point of having all these gadgets if they are not usable or working as they should.

Nokia made one big mistake. Symbian. Ive seen how it started with Psion Ltd. and oh my god guys… those English doing any software is a nightmare.

Of the thousands of UI defects in the N8 - the lack on portrait QWERTY keyboard is one of the biggies.

No more! The is a vertical keyboard! Well done Nokia.

Hmmm? Wait? What! It wasn’t Nokia wot done it. It was that crafty fox Janole.

So, a lone developer can beat Nokia / Symbian at producing a usable UI for the N8.

                          http://nokiaaddict.com/2010/11/01/gravitys-new-keyboard-on-the-n8/

PS - I’ve thrown my N8 in the bin. I tried to return it - but they don’t accept phones which have been thrown repeatedly against a brick wall in frustration.

This phone is boring, only great on hardware but very bad on software & nokia ovi store. Who need a hdmi port on mobile phone? The UI very laggy & not smooth at all since compare to iphone 4. Gaming with 3D chip? Iphone more interesting with accelerometer+three axis gyrometer...
