Anonymous, 28 Oct 2010nice unbias review, i wanted to get this phone but too many... moreYes the phone has a few. If you find a phone that doesn't however, let me know. I'll complain about N8's but can live with it. For what it can do, I can live with it. Until there is a new piece of technology that is essential for me to have, I will have this phone for a very good while.

                Had the N8 for about 10 days. What I can conclude so far;

Symbian 3 is an improvement, none the less. Say what you want, but the OS is better than what it was before.

I'm really missing the call and end buttons. Doing a quick redail has proven a bit difficult. Hopefully, an important quick redail hasn't and won't need to happen soon until I can find a way around this.

YES! YOU CAN RECORD PHONE CONVERSATIONS! Both ends are heard and you can play back the recorded conversation while still on the phone! Last time I was able to do that was on this 2001 nokia texting phone (R.I.P.). I love this feature and is very useful.

Texting is...different, to say the least. It's still a bit frustrating, but there are a bit of improvements. it has spell checker and the layout has been updated, BUT, sadly, compared to the iphone, this thing is clumsy. On the iphone, I could type with a ridiculous amount of inaccuracy and it would still get what I was saying right. If only it was on the N8. It'll probably never be that good, but I HOPE, I HOPE, PORTRAIT QWERTY comes on the next firmware update. It's badly needed. I never tried SWPE so I'm curious to try that too, if it gets used.

Loving the email client. Nothing wrong with it at all. And satisfies my needs in email. Notifications are sent, I can respond add pics, mp3 its all good. Before, I had the OMNIA HD and I always had to be on the Opera and login to my accounts there. Not anymore. So good.

Music player is awesome. Very up to date. Only thing that doesn't make sense, at all, is why there isn't just an Artist Name section? Their Artist and Album section is alright, but I when I want to look at an Artist's album, I want to look through them in from one location! Not have them in separate folders all together. That may seem silly, but if I wanted to play all of an artists songs all at once, I wouldn't be able to. I'd have to go album to album. High hopes to that changing.

Opera likes to crash on this phone. Don't know why. The nokia standard browser is an improvement. Nothing much to say that others hasn't. It can only get better with a firmware.

glitches in the photo/video gallery for sure. Sometimes the video gallery will take a long time to exit. To the point where I think something is wrong. Photo editor could using some more polishing, implement multi touch more.

LOVING the homescreens I'm coming from a OMNIA HD and I've played around with iphones and androids. Its a good thing. Especially the google search widget

OVI maps!....hm....Coming from google maps, there's a bit of pros and cons. Free navigation, voice guidance, no more use for the internet connection is AWESOME! I do wish, however, that it could save previous searches automatically. Nothing is more a pain in the ass than repeatedly retyping the same address everytime you close out of a map location. Not too bothered by there being no multi touch.

CAMERA? PSH seriously, no contest. The best out there, of any phone. Period. End of story. Video? Ditto. Haven't had a complaint about the xeon flash but if it can be brighter and used in video mode, all the better.

One thing that bugs me, is that I set up on the settings for my phone to automatically use internet data when a program needs to do so. Yet, on Ovi maps and my geotagging feature on the camera STILL ask for me to pick an access point for internet data. hmmm...

Last, Battery. Mixed bag. Maybe because some days, it's struggling to find a signal of 3G in my area and sometimes it isn't. A few days, this thing needed charging before 7 or 8 pm.. Another day it was 10 hours and still had 100% battery! LOL. I don't but I can't wait to go to Paris and all I'll need to do is switch the SIM card.

Great phone. Too expensive, though considering nokia is putting high hopes on this device. They are just lucky my OMNIA was on it's last days and I just needed a new one. It still works if anyone wants it! Just the middle button is a bit wonky. Thanks for reading.

I'm an owner of an N97 mini and looked at an N8 in store today. I have to say the OS didn't seem much different to my N97 mini in terms of look and feel or speed. I have to say It's put me off at the moment because all the untidy aspects of the N97 OS are in the N8. The phone I tested was fresh out of the box nd I could already pick up jerky laggy response. The screen is nice. I know the metal case and glass is meant to be scratch resistant but I wondering how durable the top and bottom are. These are probably the most vulnerable area of the phone. Being painted plastic I wonder how they will stand up to bumps and knocks. Can anyone who has an N8 offer their feedback on this?

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2010I've used symbian before and never had problems off switchi... moreRestarting is symbians natural response to resource depletion. Though i doubt thats the case as i still can't comprehend how anyone would deplete 256mb of ram in sane usage. Could be a software glitch or a virus. But switching off? You should see some service personnel. If you can't and it gets worse, try this.

                                    . . .

Switch the phone off, hold down the volume minus(-), camera and menu keys then press the power button and hold these four keys down until the screen displays the nokia logo. This would delete all data on the phone and restore it back to how it was on purchase. Hope that was helpfull

Joyse, 28 Oct 2010Actually the video camera in the N8 is definitely more usef... moreThe galaxy i had does indeed have auto focus in video mode like vivaz but unfortunatly when changing depth of field you have to wait for auto-focus to focus,so its a good idea but if your out filming like i did with galaxys and vivaz pro a lot of the footage comes out blurred. In theory if you were doing an outside report filming a newscaster at same distance from vivaz or SGS then it would have great results but video means moving action and thats where these 2 fail

The n8 is using very much like EDOF cameras and its down to the superb optics, algorithms and gpu that give better depth of field results BUT the n8 wont focus good close up "but" in my tests its very good.

The special video digital zoom on N8 works just like n86 by using more of the sensors pixels to create the zoomed image so it stays sharp.A lot of this would not be possible without the GPU kicking in to help plus the GPU kicks in to push the hi-def footage to your tv else nokia would have had to up the CPU which is no use in symbian cause of its superb optimisation and coding, therefore a smaller GPU with graphics co-prossessor works a dream..

There are updates to come and nokia will tweak this even more i hope they add some dolby digital or SRS WOW to mp3 player and add make your own presets like all s60 handsets have.

I can understand folk just getting N8 seeing series 60 5th edition there and having a few fotos done and bit of video and saying boring. If you take the trouble to set it up as your own smartfone and not how other people want you too and get all your screens wallpapers all set up and enjoy the N8 it gets better and better. Its your smartfone nobody elses, just cause they are using a superb 3d game and using facebook does not mean to say you have too cause i dont...I dont use face book and use timewaster games getting personnel best scores are my gaming needs plus i dont use a car so dont need sat nav.I am going to try angry birds tho.

Up to now (as in earlier n-series) whats on the fones screen is on tv so maybe angry birds at 24inches??? Who knows browsing internet on bigscreen plus with bonfire night and xmas coming up theirs all thats goodness to capture...Brynn
