Gartner Inc. predicts Andr(av)oid will surge to 14% of the global smartphone market in 2012 ahead of the iPhone, as well as Windows Mobile and BlackBerry smartphones.
In 2012 market will be
Symbian: 203 million handsets, 39 percent of the market; Google Android: 76 million handsets, 14.5 percent of the market; Apple iPhone OS: 71.5 million handsets, 13.7 percent of the market; Windows Mobile: 66.8 million handsets, 12.8 percent of the market; RIM BlackBerry OS: 65.25 million handsets, 12.5 percent of the market; Linux variants: 28 million handsets, 5.4 percent of the market; Palm webOS: 11 million handsets, 2.1 percent of the market.
Database giant Oracle has launched a legal action against Google, alleging that the company infringes seven patents it owns related to Java.
Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, was formerly a chief technical officer for Sun Microsystems. Sun Microsystems was bought by Oracle.
The move is interesting because when Sun Microsystems was a separate entity it promoted Java as an open source option.
Google never formally took out a licence from Sun Microsystems, while Java is widely used in a large number of applications created by other vendors. The law suit will cause other manufacturers to wonder whether Oracle will start a patent hunt against them.
The move prompted the Wall Street Journal to remind its readers that Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle, is a friend of Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple.
Apple considers Android to be a considerable threat to the iPhone and the Google OS continues to grow its market share as an OS for smartphones.
Java deal between IBM and Oracle is threatening to damage the Android

fans here... And also Nokia fans are welcome to read.

RAD, 24 Oct 2010That's ridiculous you would even say people are negatively ... more"Processor not good". Hey, what planet do you come from? Performance is the result of the combination of the processor and the OS. Symbian does not require billion GHz of processing power. A separate GPU is the key and Symbian's minimal processor requirements. Candy Android and iOS requires gazillion GHz because they're programmed in Java, which is running on top of C++, which is running on top of the native machine language. Symbian is compiled very close to the machine language and hence it does not require the processor that Android and iOS requires. Besides, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STICK IN YOUR EAR A VERY POWERFUL PROCESSOR AND A VERY POWERFUL BATTERY POWERING IT UP? It's like sticking a microwave into your small brain through your ears! Wake up, earthling!
This phone is fast, robust and it's for power users and for those who understand what marketing did to suckers of iPhone. Funny, but whatever Apple says is 'new', like video calling, these suckers think Apple invented it. Next, when Apple says they have Swype texting, these suckers will again believe Apple invented it. Pathetic iPhone illiterates...

That's ridiculous you would even say people are negatively voting just to downplay the phone. I own a Galaxy S, though I like lots of other phones, to include this one, so don't go around saying all Samsung or Android users are screwing the vote. The camera on the N8 is remarkable, 12MP on a phone?? It outspecs the Galaxy S in some areas even, except I'd figure Nokia would've went with a faster processor, 680MHz seems somewhat outdated by today's standards for a phone of such high caliber.
